Desert course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 13, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Sunbeam lake is the a 9 hole course situated outside an RV park near El Centro, CA. It's literally in the middle of nowhere, but for disc golf junkies like us, it's a welcome sight. And honestly, it holds up pretty well!!

Instead of dirt and rocks, you'll find grass, trees, shrubs, and even some water! Many of the holes share the same baskets, but each hole is different and requires different shots to reach the target. It's not just a pitch and putt 9 hole course, there's actually distance and elevation here. It's quite a fun round!

Holes 1-4 are in an open section of the park. Hole 1 requires a huge hyzer bomb around a tree to the pin. Hole 2 is fairly open, and hole 3 is fairly open but also over 700 feet. The tee box for 3 is on an elevated berm near the edge of the park, so you get the feeling of driving down into the park which is pretty cool. Hole 4 is a straight shot back to the hole 1 basket.

Holes 5-9 wrap around the recreation area outside of the park. Hole 5 has an elevated target on the edge of a hill. Hole 6 fires around a group of trees back to the edge of the parking area. Hole 7 is probably the most wooded hole on the course and backs up to a lake. Hole 8 fires over an urban fountain area that could double as something like a skate park. Then hole 9 finishes up back near the parking area.

Each hole had concrete pads and their own tee sign. There's a nice map near the hole 1 tee pad that gives you a good overview of the course as well.

Overview of pros:

- Concrete pads
- Benches on every hole
- Pins and great condition
- Variety of shots and distances
- Great scenery
- Fun factor

Cons:

First the flow is really off here. I actually played 4 thinking it was 3, then I had to double back and play 3 the right way. Make sure you have a copy of the map either on your phone or somewhere.

Many of the holes reuse the same baskets, so again... study your map!

Other Thoughts:

If you're in the El Centro area and looking to play some disc golf, this is really your only option. The good news is this place is actually fun! It requires some long shots, placement shots, and sometimes you have to scramble!! Park in the lot next to hole 1 and rip it!

Not a bad little course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 29, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Does have challenging baskets

Nice little walk through the park and along the lake

cement tee's

benches at every tee and each hole is marked with a nice sign

the par 5 was fun but a pain to find.

Cons:

the layout is kind of weird. the flow is all off.

with a little more creativity I think they could improve the flow and even add some more baskets.
