The Hoot Is A Hoot! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 6, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

But it's not that big of a hoot. It's solid, it's a fun nine, it's welcoming as can be. When you drive in, you're directed to the parking area. There's a donation box, an old love seat, picnic table, porta potty and a sign directing you to the first tee. It's a nice staging area for tournaments.

I read that this was at one time a tree farm. The place is filled with small trees. I wonder if they mind me coming down here and digging up a couple of Maple trees. They have plenty. They probably won't be to accommodating to me when they see the average 2.5 rating I'll be giving them.

The Hoot has these great tee signs which are mounted on telephone pole sized logs. They give you all the needed info. The baskets are white Dynamic Patriot models. The pads are nice sized carpet and very level. There's lots of helpful navigation aids. There is a chair and garbage pail at each tee. There is a kiosk by the # 1 tee.

I was a little baffled by some basket placements. Three baskets (# 1, # 4 and # 7) were not in what I think is the normal position. I think, or I'm guessing that there might have been a tournament the layout had been changed. There was chalked lines leading in the opposite direction so I don't really know what was going on.

The Hoot has a nice variety of reachable ACE runs, mid-range holes and finished with a couple of longer, 490' and 532' holes. There is also a nice variety of tight versus more open fairways. I kinda liked # 8 as the signature hole here. It's 490' but there is a pump house building in the way. A Mando forces you to play to the left of this building where the gap is small.

Cons:

The course is flat.

No water.

Some strange basket placements today.

No real WoW factor.

Other Thoughts:

The course is fun and presents a nice little challenge. To me, it's sits in the normal range of courses. It's current rating if 4.0 would place it as the number two rated nine hole course in the WORLD! I don't think so.

I wouldn't mind playing here on a regular basis. It's kind of a loosely goosey not-threatening round. Fun with no chance of losing a disc and little chance of getting in trouble.
