Fun stop, wish I lived closer 2+ years

Pros:

This course set in the farmlands south east of Portland is worth going a little out of your way. It doesn't have alot of elevation change but what little there is is well used. Most of the flow is pretty easy to figure out alto it was in the 4x4 configuration(3 and 4 were longer par 4s instead of 3s listed) so was different than tee signs at the time and a little confusing. Unfortunately I didn't have time to pace them out(barely finished before it was too dark to find my drives) or I would add those as alternate tees.
I got there very late on a summer evening and the owner come by to say hi on about the 8th hole and was very nice. The course was well laid out taking advantage of the terrain for a smaller space and there were some very challenging holes for a 9 hole, I was pleasantly surprised. I liked the mix of types of trees, which made for different challenges. 8 is a long hole throwing under some mature trees with branches starting around 15 to 20 ft, while 2 and 7 throw into tight stands in more typical tunnel shot. Most holes had a pretty fair if challenging path to the pin, but a couple are pretty punishing if you stray off that path, 2 and 7 especially.

Cons:

Signs were not accurate for the layout, which made navigation tough(threw to wrong pin on 2 and made a terrible 2nd shot on three because pin was a fair bit farther than expected). Not alot for amenities but it seems like they are continuing to develop property so I expect those to get better. Same with signs.
Speaking of signs, I drove past the entrance 2 or 3 times, it is not well marked.

Other Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this course and it really set the tone for my 4 days of playing in Oregon. I was pleasantly surprised with the level of difficulty in this small 9 hole. As an added bonus they seem to have added another 9 pins to make it a double 9, I look forward to playing it again on a future trip.
Well worth making the time to play if you are in the area

The Hoot Is A Hoot! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 6, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

But it's not that big of a hoot. It's solid, it's a fun nine, it's welcoming as can be. When you drive in, you're directed to the parking area. There's a donation box, an old love seat, picnic table, porta potty and a sign directing you to the first tee. It's a nice staging area for tournaments.

I read that this was at one time a tree farm. The place is filled with small trees. I wonder if they mind me coming down here and digging up a couple of Maple trees. They have plenty. They probably won't be to accommodating to me when they see the average 2.5 rating I'll be giving them.

The Hoot has these great tee signs which are mounted on telephone pole sized logs. They give you all the needed info. The baskets are white Dynamic Patriot models. The pads are nice sized carpet and very level. There's lots of helpful navigation aids. There is a chair and garbage pail at each tee. There is a kiosk by the # 1 tee.

I was a little baffled by some basket placements. Three baskets (# 1, # 4 and # 7) were not in what I think is the normal position. I think, or I'm guessing that there might have been a tournament the layout had been changed. There was chalked lines leading in the opposite direction so I don't really know what was going on.

The Hoot has a nice variety of reachable ACE runs, mid-range holes and finished with a couple of longer, 490' and 532' holes. There is also a nice variety of tight versus more open fairways. I kinda liked # 8 as the signature hole here. It's 490' but there is a pump house building in the way. A Mando forces you to play to the left of this building where the gap is small.

Cons:

The course is flat.

No water.

Some strange basket placements today.

No real WoW factor.

Other Thoughts:

The course is fun and presents a nice little challenge. To me, it's sits in the normal range of courses. It's current rating if 4.0 would place it as the number two rated nine hole course in the WORLD! I don't think so.

I wouldn't mind playing here on a regular basis. It's kind of a loosely goosey not-threatening round. Fun with no chance of losing a disc and little chance of getting in trouble.

Pros:

Very well manicured!
Amazing signs throughout the course pointing you to next hole
Giant Fernando statue a true signature stamp. One of the best disc golf photos you can get on a course. If you don't know what I'm talking about look at course photos! Even made jomez insta.
Layout flows very nicely and is a quick 9 even for some longer holes
Great mix of distances from ace chances to max drives.
Baskets our very nice and incredible turf tee pads and signs
Nets protecting the other tee pads were errant drives could hit someone
Good marked out mandos, and developing into one of the better 9 holes I've played.

Cons:

It's only 9 holes
Some fairways play very close together I think it's 9/2/7
When I played here I wasn't a fan of some of the basket locations. Being out behind trees making it tough to get there even with great drive...hole 6 is a luck over skill type feeling hole.
Hole 8 you're throwing over the road coming in

Other Thoughts:

Worth the 5 dollar donation! There's talk of it expanding and would be incredible great addition to Oregon DG
