The Never Ending project 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 27, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

- beautiful park
- dog park plus a dog swimming area (Note: dogs are not allowed in the disc golf area)
- The overall layout is great and very challenging when it is being maintained. Unfortunately it is not very AM friendly.

Cons:

- AM and Rec players are not going to enjoy this course. The AM layout is as long as most pro pad layouts at other parks. AM players have better choices in Broward County.
- poorly designed tee pads
- missing tee pads
- fairways are often overgrown making it difficult to find discs
- poison ivy in certain locations
- too many elevated baskets
- no alternate pin locations
- too many baskets pushed up to the OBs.
- poor signage
- few if any benches
- tee pads painted on roads
- par 4s listed as par 5s
- unsafe holes where you are throwing towards a playground, picnic benches, and a pavilion.
- pro pads right next to the am pads
- tee pads pushed up to adjoining fairways
- some fairways still not cleared of ankle breakers
- Two holes with steep cliffs that make it dangerous to retrieve discs.
- pay to park on the weekends $3-$5

Other Thoughts:

This course has been under construction for over two years and The guy building it just does not know when to quit. Every time I play the course he is out there making changes and most of the changes are for the worst. For example there was a decent par 4 hole on the course(hole 11) that the course designer kept calling a par 5. After being told numerous times that this 460' hole was not a par 5 he move the basket deeper placing it nearly on top of the tee pad of the adjoining hole. Now realizing the basket was too close to the tee pad he built a wall to keep discs from hitting people on the tee pad! So instead of changing par 5 to 4 on the sign he ruined two holes and wasted hours of work. Sadly there are dozens of stories like this that can be told about this project. If the designer would just stop building stuff, and listen to the experienced course designers/players in his area the course could some day be 4 star for all level of players.

Pros:

NOTE: I am reviewing this course with only 9 holes in the ground.

This is a pretty cool park. There are little pagodas with picnic tables perched above the lakes, surrounded by palm trees. There is even a little dogs-only swimming hole.

I love when a course shows me something I haven't seen before. Hole 2 does just that. From the white and blue tees, you are throwing an uphill, over-water shot to a hanging (sort of) basket above a big mound. I can't explain it, but it looks like something out of a pirate theme park.

Another good one was the long wooded hole (5 or 6, I think, I can't remember). It was a good example of how to make a wooded hole. You don't need a ton of trees.
You need trees in the right place with good landing zones. Aside from the rough (see below), fun hole.

There are three tees on every hole of appropriate difficulty. I primarily played the red tees, which don't throw across any water but are still pretty fun. The white tees look tougher, and the blue tees feature some very difficult shots on every hole, including tight gaps on the other side of the lakes and lagoons.
This had a better mix of open and wooded shots than the other Ft Lauderdale courses I played.
Tee signs are pretty good, showing the various tee locations.

Cons:

Keep in mind that these cons are mostly related to the courses brand newness. I think the course isn't even three weeks old.

The rough here is awful. On the first hole I spent a combined 10-15 minutes looking for my disc on two separate shots. It's not bad on every hole, but if you play here often enough, you'll shank off a tree into some thick growth that will hide your disc forever. It was obvious that a lot of growth was cleared, and I saw the designer clearing more when I was there. Hole 1 definitely needs some more stuff wiped out.

The tees are all grass right now with little colored stakes, but I imagine this is temporary.

Other Thoughts:

I met the designer, and he indicated they are putting another 9 holes in. This course has a lot of potential. It's a scenic and has some great lines.

I wanted to get a review of this course up, but feel free to PM me when the course is done and a few more reviews are up, and I can delete the review (or hopefully update it if I make it back to the area). No need for a stale review to bring down the rating.

But come play it, even with 9 holes. There is some fun stuff going on here.
