A South Florida Course That Doesn't Play Like a South Florida Course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 25, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

+Great variety of hole placements, terrain, elevation (rare for South Florida), and scenery.
+Course design takes you through the entire park, including a few of the water areas.
+Most of the holes, tees, and baskets were easy to identify and aim for.
+Challenging, even at the Rec level.
+Two Par 5 holes!
+Disc drop-off kiosk with a course map and score cards.

Cons:

-Water holes can be quite risky (#3 is particularly fun, but you may lose a disc if you do not get enough height/angle on your upshot).
-Some of the signage is a bit out of date
-Some of the holes may have you searching for discs in the nearby bushes (spider alert). A spotter helps minimize this, however.

Other Thoughts:

This is my favorite course in Broward County, and it plays like many courses found outside of Florida (i.e. elevated basket placements and tees). It is very challenging, very shaded (great for the South Florida sun and heat), and very serene.

My new favorite? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 25, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

When I came out here I was excited by everything that I saw. This is beautiful tropical Florida flora and fauna, a great example of how the state used to look before humans took over. The park also is quite gorgeous, a nice bluish green Lake runs through the middle of it. The course itself is very fun. 3T pads for each hole, and some of the most interesting basket positions I've ever seen. You'll be throwing over water up to a elevated patch of land, and into a basket that hangs from a tree. After that you'll be throwing over the water on to a beach, and then proceeding down the beach towards the basket. Some holes are really tough going through tight gaps and continue playing down a longer stretch. This is a really fun course that will be tough to master, but when you hit those perfect lines you feel like a badass.

Cons:

The course is definitely not 100%, and you can see that in some of the marked teepads. I can't really fault it for that, as I know that it will soon be at 100% and all those teepads will be in place. One thing that I did not appreciate was that all tees on a given hole had had the same par, which becomes an issue when the long pads are a 550 foot par 5 and the short pads are a 250 foot par 5 on that same hole. I think you would make more sense to update the pars on each hole when new tee signs are put in. Some of the fairways could also be leveled out, but that will happen with foot traffic and time.

Other Thoughts:

If you are in Florida this is a must play. Not only is the park itself beautiful, it also has a really amazing dog park, and you'll have a really good time playing through an example of native Florida Greenery

Creative Design, Maintenance Improving 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 5, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Very creative course design, great mix of par 3's, 4's and 5's. Over water holes, carved-out fairways through trees, short ace-able par 3's, hanging baskets, elevated baskets, well marked holes, multiple tee boxes, bathrooms throughout the course, high-quality baskets, easy navigable.

Cons:

One elevated basket can be too high for amateur players. Ft. Lauderdale parks & recreation isn't keeping up with maintenance as much as it could, however it has been improving thanks to the park manager. (Only reason for not a 5 rating is maintenance and some holes are still being figured out design-wise.
