Pros:

-discatchers and tee signs (hole number, distance, par, no map) in good condition
-natural tees are mostly level and in reasonable condition
-dedicated parking for disc golf (north lot)
-kiosk with a course map next to parking and hole 1, basket 9 close to parking lot also
-excellent bridge for crossing the creek (when water is present)
-some trees come into play throughout the course, holes 6 & 7 have about 6-8' of elevation change

Cons:

-the natural tees have maintained their condition for quite awhile (evidence of the low traffic) but some of them are about to start getting to that point...
-small park with potential for lots of pedestrian interferences
-walking path in play on holes 1, 2, 3, 9
-holes 6 & 9 throw over the park road
-hole 8 plays around a basketball court
-hole 9 is long (510') just to get back to the parking lot
-current construction (March 2024) is renovating the park, looks like changes are coming but the course is still totally intact

Other Thoughts:

Olney is a small town with a small park containing a small disc golf course. The park is nearly entirely flat with some trees and a lot of other park uses and users present. The course meanders across the area north of the creek that bisects the park and then makes a loop around the area south of the creek. The north area has a walking path making a loop and the south area has a circular park road, basketball court, pool area, playground, pavilions, etc. A good portion of these things come into play on various holes so you definitely need to share the space.

The basic infrastructure is pretty good: basic tee signs and kiosk course map aid navigation, baskets and natural tees in decent condition. The holes are mostly pitch and putt length, from around 200' to 270'. There is typically one tree to beat in the fairway or a tree giving you a low ceiling off the tee but there is not a lot of shot shaping required. The wind is a factor. You cross the creek (when present) on holes 4 and 9. Basket 5 and tee 6 sit around 6'-8' higher than the rest of the park in the southwest corner, next to the road.

Most of the course avoids the other major park activities except for the last two holes. Hole 8 unnecessarily throws around the basketball court and hole 9 has a bunch of stuff between tee and basket depending on which route is taken. There are safe ways to play them and it won't matter much if nobody is there but it's not good design.

The course is definitely for locals and baggers only. Don't go out of your way and considering heading to Wichita Falls instead. If I ever come back, it will just be to see what happens to the course after the construction is done.

For a small town Great 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 6, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

For a tiny town this is a nice 9 hole.
Good signs.
Great Baskets
Nice little park.
Looks its a tiny town in an old park but they still have a well mowed course.

Cons:

Layed out a little odd. They could have added more distance or more holes. I know not 18 but could have had a 12 or made everything longer

Other Thoughts:

#2 is hidden behind the building
If your town stop by but dont go out of your way
no elevation changes or anything

What is up with hole 9? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 26, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Map at the parking lot
Tee signs marking hole number and distance
Good baskets

Cons:

Grass tees
9 and 4 cross fairways
Poor design for hole 8 and 9

Other Thoughts:

Small towns usually have small parks. It is good to have a 9 hole course in any town.

However, good course design is important.

The course runs a figure 8 around the outside part of the park.

Hole 1 is a good little turnover shot.

Hole 2 is hidden behind the building. Short forehand was my shot choice.

Hole 3 is an open hyzer shot back towards the parking area

Hole 4 tees off next to the bridge and is a decent short hole

Hole 5 throws along the road, short straight shot.

Hole 6 is missing a line, there are a few tight ones, but it is a short hole either way

Hole 7 also throws along the road, short straight shot

Hole 8. Not a good hole, I think the intent was to throw around the basketball court, however when you are standing next to the tee sign, you can just throw right over the court. I just threw a huge highzer around the light poles for my 2.

Now you have to walk around the pool to the tree's near the road. The tee sign had 510 marked on it, but because it is all grass, where you to see off from. The natural instinct was to throw straight at the hole over the road and over playground equipment. But if you throw what I think your suppose to, you want to land near the bridge area for your upshot to get your 3.

There is nothing wrong with holes 1 to 7, I have a problem with 8 and 9. Take 8 totally out, have 8's tee near where 9's tee is and have the shot down to the bridge area. Then put 9 from around 4't tee area down to the parking lot.

No crossing fairways and better flow. Only a long walk from 7 to 8

Nice practice course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 27, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-New DisCatcher Pro baskets.
-Easy to spot tee signs for navigation to next tee.
-Established park with grass (no mud) and a sturdy bridge over the creek.
-First tee and ninth basket are right by the parking lot.
-Bulletin board with course map at the parking lot.
-Trees... in this part of the world, it's a big deal.
-Clever use of the park for a pretty fun practice round.

Cons:

-Grass tees. "If" the course is played a lot, it will evolve into muddy ruts.
-Holes play around aging (really old) park facilities. 7 plays between old (unused) swing set and a road. 8 plays around the basketball court. There's an old picnic table in the fairway on 9.
-This is the only park in town. There have been people at the park every time I've seen it in good weather. I'm sure it's crowded on weekends.
-The course is flat. The "hill" up to basket 6 has an elevation rise of about 6-8 feet.
-No navigation aids on the tee signs. You can't see the basket on 2 or 9. On 9, your natural instinct will be to play toward baskets 2 or 3, but you pass to the left of basket 3 and play it all the way to the basket by the parking lot.
-Although there's a restroom building, it's been locked every time I've been there.

Other Thoughts:

This is a short little course in a small town. The designer did a pretty good job forcing lines with what obstacles they had to work with.

The creek is about 4 feet wide at its widest point when full (it rained last night before I took the pictures). You shouldn't lose a disc on the course. It's pretty fun to play considering the closest course from here is 20 miles away. They did a pretty good job of making it more than a field to throw across which is tough to do on this flatland. The grass is surprisingly tall and thick. Skip shots will be hard to come by. Shade is not far away on a hot day. They mowed the morning I took the pictures.

I will play there again for a quick practice round. The park patrons are curious about the game. It doesn't appear that the locals have played, but they seem receptive. Everyone I've met in the town is very nice.

It's a great course to learn to play on or to play a quick practice round.
