Dam cool scenery 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 5, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Course Maintenance 10/10. The course is in a state park and is very well maintained. It's always been clean and well mowed when I've been, and there are facilities on site.

Use of Obstacles 9/10. This course does a great job of using a variety of different obstacles (trees, OB roads, creeks, the lake). Slight knock for not avoiding camping shelter on 15 and 16.

Baskets/Tees 9/10. DD Baskets in good condition. Tees are concrete but are wearing out and not very gritty. Also could be a little larger for the longer holes at least.

Finding Discs 8/10. Finding discs should be pretty easy for the most part. Pretty high chance of losing a disc over the lake on 13, and a slight chance if you happen to go long on 12.

Comfort 7/10. No rough to speak of, grass is short, and there's a decent amount of shade. Could use some more benches. A few holes are tightly packed and you might have to watch out of other players, and a couple on the back there could be families there camping/picnicking

Navigation on holes 7/10. Despite no tee signs, it's generally pretty easy to tell where the basket is from the tee. The lack of elevation means there are very few blind shots (only a couple hidden behind trees).

Variety of Shot Paths 6/10. There aren't many holes with a significant doglet, but with the way the creek/roads and the lake are used, it will definitely benefit players who can throw left to right or right to left.

Variety of openness 6/10. The course is generally on the open side. A couple of holes have only 1 or 2 trees with an OB road/creek. There are still a few holes with lines to hit though.

Decisionmaking required 6/10. The half of the holes that do have some more trees do a good job of providing multiple routes to the basket. Good risk reward with throwing over the lake on 13 and going for an ace run on 15 with OB road behind.

Cons:

Elevation 1/10. Extremely flat for the most part. There is a ridge up to the road that acts as a backstop on hole 15 and makes 16 slightly downhill. The only other elevation comes from the ditch of the OB creek.

Variety of distances 4/10. A vast majority of holes are right around 300-350. There are some exceptions. Hole 7 is a bomber hole as a legit 700ft par 4, and 18 is a long par 3 at 440ft. Holes 11 and 15 are on the shorter side and give good ace run opportunities.

Navigation between holes 5/10. Tough to find the next tee at times, especially when crossing the road is involved. Make sure to bring a course map or take a picture at the start.

Alternate pins 5/10. Holes 15 and 18 have no alternates, 4 holes have 3 total placements, and the rest have 2. Several of the alternate placements that are there are pretty good, with a couple duds.

Challenging all levels 5/10. This is a really good course for beginners, with the exception of holes 7 and especially 13. Advanced players should expect a lot of birdie chances with mids off the tee.

Other Thoughts:

Overall Challenge 4/10
More Precise Rating 3.053

18th basket is generally used as the practice basket, there are bricks in the ground for a putting game or more precise distance practice, which is pretty cool.

This is a fairly easy course as long as it isn't windy. I played a collegiate tournament here on a calm day and there were 2 guys tied at -12 in one singles round. The OB is in play but generally fair. There is an alternate tee for 13 if you don't want to throw over the lake.

The $5 fee is to get into the park and is good for the entire day. There is also camping on site if you're into that.

Good for Distance Drives 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 28, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Easy to follow layout for the most part. Many of the holes were fairly straight forward, and wouldn't overwhelm someone who's new. Much different type of course than warner park. A lot of the holes required long distance shots than hooking around trees, or throwing at elevation. Basically if you can bomb a disc far this course will favor you.

Cons:

The simplicity can be a con depending on how you look at it. A creek also goes through part of it , after a good rain (or snow when I played it), it can fill up with water. On top of this it gets very muddy and difficult to retrieve discs. Some of the holes are also 700+ feet, but there aren't much obstacles. However if you can't throw far, this might put you at a disadvantage. Finally you have to pay to enter the park which kind of stinks. Being our first time and coming from out of town me and my friend somehow got in without paying, but I wouldn't recommend trying this.

Other Thoughts:

After a brutal round at Warner Park, this was a nice change of pace. The course is open and there isn't much in the way, but some of the holes are the biggest that I've ever thrown. Make sure you got a good high speed driver for this course.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 19, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

At the start of the course, there is a kiosk with a map and hole info. There is also a practice basket set up for "Around the World". There is a good variation of holes on this course with lengths range from just over 200' to well over 700' and water coming into play on a handfull of them. The trees are used well and provide good obstacles and call for a variety of shots. The course flows fairly well, but I would reccomend taking a map your first time to get oriented. Bathrooms are easily accessable and parking is plentiful. I dont think I have ever waited more than 2 or 3 minutes behind another group, and have never had another group throw on me here.

Cons:

Absolutely NO elevation. One of the holes has a parking lot/ boat ramp/ dock/ cleaning station right in the middle of the fairway. There is a state park fee to park at the course for $3.70 - $4.20. On the weekends, you are likely to encounter campers on the fairways. Several holes are very close to picnic areas and shelters also. Can be very soggy after even moderate rains, so be prepared for some standing water.

Other Thoughts:

Virtually all of the cons can be easily avoided by playing weekdays or late Sundays. It is the only 18 hole course near town, also the only one with concrete tee pads.

Couldn't Agree More 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 18, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice, long course; decent scenery; good course map at beginning of course; decent variety of hole locations, forcing a variety of shot-making; pretty cool "H-O-R-S-E" set-up at Hole 18, near the parking area

Cons:

One of the holes is missing; current park construction makes getting there a little more difficult (not a long-term problem, I'm guessing); no signage on the course, so it can be difficult to locate pins if you've never played; one hole that is 700+ feet (this might be a good thing, though); agree that openness can make wind a problem; pay-to-play

Other Thoughts:

The first reviewer nailed this review. I got into disc golf because it's generally inexpensive, so I don't really like having to pay to play, but $6.50 isn't too bad for a good round of golf, and you can play all day for that price.
