Someone bring the machete 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 15, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Amazing variety and challenge compared to a run of the mill 9 hole course in a township park

Most teepads are rubber pads and in great shape, though a few were missing when I played.

Close proximity to several other courses including Nockamixon make this a great warmup course for early in the day.

Cons:

When I played this course, the grass on hole #1 and 2 (old 2 and 3) was pushing 3 feet tall and very thick. This wasn't tall grass out in the rough, this was in the _fairways_. It really made the holes border on being unplayable.

Finding the first hole is somewhat tricky without knowing as previously mentioned that the course now starts on what was tee #2.

Ground gets VERY soggy after a bit of rain. Bring some waterproof boots!

Other Thoughts:

Overall, I was very impressed with this course compared to the smaller courses in township parks that I'm used to seeing. My group almost turned around and left after trudging through the first hole. I'm very glad we pushed on, because the later parts of the course were quite a little gem. That said, I find it very hard to rate this course much more than a 3 because 2/9 of the course was bordering on unplayable.

Unami Park DGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 7, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice 9-hole course that plays mostly in the woods with tight fairways that require good technical shots.
Cool elevation changes; especially hole 1 with its epic downhill drive. Holes 2 and 9 provide interesting uphill shots.
The baskets are all in good condition as are most of the tee pads; accurate maps on each hole are also a plus. Definitely worth playing if you are in the area; even with a plethra of great courses nearby.

Cons:

The removal of hole 1 and the change to hole 4 (used to be a signature drive over the water) are very dissapointing. This course would easily be a 3.5 or 4 in my book if those changes did not take place.
Navigation can be difficult if you are not familiar with the course, especially since hole #2 is now the new hole #1 and there is nothing at the park that I am aware of to alert you of that change.
I know from experience that holes 2 and 3 can get very overgrown if not maintained regularly (over the summer you can expect long searches through the thick stuff for your disc)

Other Thoughts:

This course took a big step down in my opinion after the aformentioned changes to several of the holes. It is still a high quality 9-hole course that I will play on my way to the Allentown courses or Nockamixon.

High grass 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 12, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Lots of variety of shots. Hole one is challenging and starts with a nice downslope, across a field. Then the course is a basic par 3 that runs through the woods with most holes being approx. 300 ft. One of the better par 3 courses in the area.

Cons:

The grass was extremely high when I played, and looks like it hasn't been mowed in over 6 months. Holes 1 and 2 therefore were a challenge finding your disc across a field of extreme high grass. The signs are nice, but holes 1 thru 4 are written over the other signs? Hole 4 is missing a tee!

Other Thoughts:

If in the area, definitely worth checking out. A good compliment on the drive up to nockamixon. Also, the course in sellersville is worth checking out.

Cool Nine Holer 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 20, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Overall, well crafted course with fun elevation changes and scenic geology along the way.

Cons:

Only reason I don't give this a course a 5 is because some of the Next Hole and Tee placards are in disrepair. Even so, with the somewhat outdated online map in hand we were able to navigate the course.

Other Thoughts:

This review was made before Spring had made its debut, so I look forward to how the increased greenery changes the play of the course.

Awesome Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 24, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Huge elevation changes, tight technical shots thru woods, long holes and well placed pins over rocks and all sorts of obstructions. I did two loops today and this course was a fun workout, bring some comfortable shoes

Cons:

This is probably a transition but be prepared to start on #2 as hole #1 was taken down and nothing alerts you of this upon arrival

Par is a great score on #2 so don't let this new starting hole get you frustrated

Other Thoughts:

Since #2 is now the starting hole.....nice if there was one or two fairway markers alerting you of the basket location as down on the right the wooden foot bridge is the entry point to basket and it was tough to know where I was headed the first time.....but after one time its easy to follow.

Slice of Heaven in My Backyard 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 30, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Very diverse course for being tucked away. I love to throw this course a few times in a row. Unami has something for everyone, beginners will enjoy the compactness, and advanced players will enjoy shooting the more technical lines.

Cons:

Course is a bit disorganized right now, but not terribly. I loved the hole over the creek, I wish that would come back, also the old first hole was a nice lead in to the big downhill on the next hole.

Other Thoughts:

I live ten minutes from this course and I feel lucky to have such a nice little slice of disc heaven in my own backyard. Very nice break from Nocky.

Sweet 9 Hole Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 26, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

First...HOLE #2 IS THE FIRST HOLE.
A sweet down hill slalom drive to land in a open grass meadow with a second hard drive into the tree line with a up-shot to get you near the basket and putt to finish with a par 4.
This is a your first taste of this well designed course. This park has it all for a fun and challenging play on a 9 hole course. If it leaves you wanting more, play it again? You won't be disappointed and will enjoy every hole.
This park has a little of everything to give you a intro to playing Disc golf. The designer was lucky to have such great features for a 9 hole course.

This isn't a give-me ace run course you can play with putters and mids. This course plays like the big boys. Great terrain changes, tight wooded fairways, blind holes, dog legs and 2 open long field drives (holes 1&2). Giant boulders guarding some baskets and some on slopes, for death roll putts. Eliminating hole #1 was a smart move due to it's proximity to pedestrian walks and general park use. Elevated boxes with fly pads on tees and good baskets are the norm here.

Cons:

Not much to complain about really on this 9 hole course. Errant throws on hole 1&2 can put you in some nasty thick. Changing hole #4 from a over the creek shot was a little disappointing. Seems people hang at this deep pool and let their dogs go for a swim here. So maybe it had to be done for a safety factor.
Park map, photos, scorecard and tee signs need to be updated to reflect changes to the layout.

Other Thoughts:

Let me say, this is the first 9 hole course that I have ever played and I wasn't disappointed. It deserves it's rating. I wish it was across the street from my house and I could play it over and over again.
It's a close hop off PA-476 and well worth the detour for a few quick rounds on this challenging course. Don't pass it by, think of it as Nocky's little brother only 9 miles up the road. If only all neighborhoods and a 9 holer like this.

Pros:

Unique obstacles like the rock wall guarding a hole. A few straight holes, and a variety of other holes. Very challenging course for newcomers and experienced players alike.

Cons:

Grass in play on the first two holes is way too tall, even for disc golf. Course just recently redesigned, which is why the numbering is off. The course now begins with hole #2. I'm sure this will be addressed and corrected in the future.

Unami Creek Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 11, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great little 9 hole course. It's within the park, but off on its own. Park patrons keep their distance. This course is a very beautiful place to play the game. Excellent use of the elevation. I really enjoyed teeing off of hole #2. The hill off the tee pad is rather steep.
It is set up well, utilizing the surrounding area. Some of the fairways are through open fields, but most are through the wooded area. Hole number 4 requires to tee off over a stream; keeps the game interesting.
All the tee pads are in excellent condition and are bordered with 2x4 planks. Each tee has a map with landmarks, pars, and distances. They appear well maintained. (Hole 9 was the exception, the map was missing).
The course is easy to navigate. Markers on trees pointed to the next tee.

Cons:

I really enjoyed playing this course. There were some minor things that I could see causing some difficulty.
First off, the fairway area within hole 2 and 3 acts as a reservoir for the stream overflow. The stream runs right on the border of this particular fairway. Definitely would want to avoid playing after a good rain fall.
Second thing is just hypothetical, I will have to update more towards the summer. This fairway has the potential, if not maintained and regularly groomed to become rather overgrown. Because of the natural moisture in the soil from the stream, the grass is thick and will grow at a fast rate.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, I was please with this beautiful course. It encompasses every aspect of a top notch course. It definately is a fun course. Not only is it a nice quick course that you can hit on the way home from work, but also is worth the drive to come and see the area. If I drove 45min to come play here, I would be satisfied with the experience.

A Nice Nine-Hole Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 1, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

The old, tall grove of hardwood trees creates a high-ceiling canopy for the bulk of the course. This results in fairly open wooded holes with limited brush and undergrowth, even in the height of summer. Despite the feeling of being in large outdoor rooms, the course still provides its fair share of challenges for players of all skill levels.

For a course located in a township park, Unami is in better shape than other similar courses. The baskets at this course are fairly new and are still in good condition. As are the tee pads. The tee-based signs are also in good shape and helpful.

There are several holes that are pretty fun including the 2nd hole where you have to stand on top of a hill and drive a few hundred feet over a feild before turning sharply to the right over a bridge and into a grove of trees to the basket. The 4th hole is a great water hole where you can play it safe or launch a glory throw over the creek. The 6th hole includes a giant boulder that protects the basket. While a lot of players aren't fond of blind baskets, this one creates a unique situation not seen in most other courses.

Cons:

The course can get muddy, especially on the 2nd and 3rd holes. These holes can also be overgrown with tall grass.

While tee signs at the tee pads are great, getting to the tee pads can be a bit tricky, especially going to the 4th tee.

Other Thoughts:

Despite the cons, Unami creek is a fun course. I'm not a big fan of largely wooded courses, but Unami is an exception. The course could easily be played back-to-back in two hours or less and makes a nice stop on the way to Nockamixon or the other world-class courses of the Lehigh Valley.

Pros:

This is not what you expect from a nine hole course. The holes are challenging.
Rubber Fly pads in good shape
New Baskets

Cons:

signage isn't the greatest
grass is overgrown (many reviewers commented otherwise and the photos look great, so perhaps it is normally done, but hasn't been cut in a while)
rough has many pricker bushers
The course does not drain well. it rained a few days prior to me being there and the course had puddles/muddy in many sections

Other Thoughts:

Some people say the signs are great. I was able to find all 9 holes with only a little bit of trouble. The basket on 4(the water hole) was moved. Many reviewers commented it's a great hole, but that was in the old position. The sign does not reflect the basket change (it is back left of the original position). Finding hole 3 was a little difficult. Many of the fairways are tight, but fair. I often would throw a midrange up the middle and play for par on severlal holes. The basket locations are great on several holes, around large rocks, protected trees, etc.
This is a challenging nine hole course. When I played it it was muddy and overgrown (in the fairway and rough on 2 and 3 (only 1-3 seem to have grass). This course is tough and the best play on several holes is play for par (1 and 9 are duecable, 4 used to be in the old position). I would recommend going to Knockamixon instead of Unami, as it is real close.

Sweet 9 hole course, good use of natural cover and elevation. Lots of trees, but the course is well groomed-- its not just a tee box in the woods. Markers are easy to read and find. Def a worth while course to play.

Cons:

Can be muddy after rain.. on hole 2 the grass was a little high so you have to watch your throws, the 4th hole was closed and there were directions to an alternate tee-- its a shame because the original 4th hole looked awesome.
Hole #1 is an easy throw beginning hole, could have made #1 more demanding

This course is along the lines of nock, it has all of the natural beauty.. there is talk of making it an 18 hole.. that would make it a 4.5 star for me, already a must play

Nice Nockamixon companion 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 24, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Still missing the 4 Nockamixon holes? I think they miraculously showed up here. Rocky holes, tree-lined fairways, two wide open ones, elevation... this little course packs a lot into nine holes. Great facilities and a playground on-site. Excellent signage; didn't get lost once.

Cons:

Very muddy, even two days after a rain. Flypads aren't the best, and often are uneven. Hole 1 seems very out of place, and too close to the pavilion and ballfield. If you weren't on this site, you would have no idea what happened to hole 4. There is a very dangerous half-fallen tree near basket 6 that needs to be taken care of ASAP before it kills someone. No accommodations for shorter/easier holes for beginners, though having discs for rent is a nice touch.

Other Thoughts:

Hole 4 would have been so beautiful! Bring it back! This course makes a fine companion to Nockamixon, with many of the same pros and cons.

Unbelieveable 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 25, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great use of elevation, will have you throwing up and down hill. There is a great risk reward water shot to challenge you. Unique and well protected pin locations. One basket is hidden behind a large boulder, while another is near the top and side of a boulder, so a missed putt here is costly.

There is a great mix of wooded, semi-wooded and open holes. No two holes are alike and each offers its own unique test. Completely separated from the rest of the park, so non-disc golf traffic should be minimal.

Tee signs at every hole, providing distances, pin and alternate pin placements and clear topography of the challenge ahead. Next tee signs made this fairly easy to navigate without a map.

There are restrooms on site as well as a nice playground for the really little ones.

Cons:

I have to nitpick for this. Only 9 holes, so it may keep some from playing it, thinking it's your typical pitch and put crappy niner. A few extra strategically placed next tee signs couldn't hurt. If the pavilion near tee 1 and basket 9 is in use, some caution may need to come into play.

Other Thoughts:

Ok, I just came from playing the world class Nockamixon State Park course and was expecting Unami to be your typical short and easy nine hole course to rebuild my battered disc golf game. Wow, was I in for a shock. This was easily the best nine hole course I've ever played. It had great length and difficulty.

Not being familiar with the park or area, I wasn't sure if there is enough land to build an entire 18 hole course. These 9 had me begging for more. If this park has enough room for 9 more holes, and they are designed as well as these were, this could easily become one of the best courses in this already well established world class disc golf course area.

Please don't let the fact it is not 18 holes deter you from playing this course. The first hole will mislead you into thinking this course is going to be easy, but just wait for the next eight, just wait.

Great use of natural terrain! Very scenic!! Easy enough for beginners, but will still challenge most players. The tees are nice, the signs are very good. A bit of a walk between a few holes, but the course is by no means long. The course is a must play!!!

Cons:

Can be muddy. Though hole 4 is great, I can see problems with plastic in the water etc etc. A couple of very small prunings might fix most of that.

Pros:

Unami is one of the best 9 hole courses that I have ever played. Only minutes from I-476. Hole 2 is an awesome downhill tee shot. The wooded holes 4-9 have 'fair'ways yet are in the woods. Hole 4 is scenic and fun with the creek in play. The elevated pin on #8 is great! Good fly pads placed over crushed rock and wooded tee frames. Very detailed tee signs.

Cons:

Can be muddy in places. Erosion will become a problem on #2 over time with
more foot traffic.Only 9 holes now.

Other Thoughts:

About 15 minutes from Nockamixon, it is basically on the way if coming from the south (Philly). A worthy stop. I'd bump this up to 4 stars if it becomes 18 holes.
I didn't mind the walk between holes since every hole brought another challenge.

Great Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 25, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

First and foremost it is only 10 minutes from my house. The first three holes are a nice warm up for holes 4 thru 9. The fairways are all about finess and not power. There are few holes after hole three where you can totally air out a shot. Good fairway shots with a a decent up will almost always result in a par. Hole 1, 4, 9 are great duece holes. Hole 2 proves to be the most challenging hole for me it is the only par 4 on the course. Hole 4 is one of my favorite holes that i have ever played.

Cons:

-9 more holes would be prime.
-Gets muddy on the lower holes

Other Thoughts:

Hopefully this becomes a 18 hole course. When it does, I believe it will be right up there with the best courses in the lehigh valley area.

Aceable but technical. Despite recent changes to address safety of public...its still a great course. Course seems to magically improve every time I go out there. PA_disc is the magician behind the scenes...good work. Actually glad that changes were made so that the course can be saved.

Cons:

Only nine holes....and local politics seem to have the second nine in a holding pattern. Grass can be long and muddy on holes 1 and 2 sometimes. Blind nature of drive of #1 can yiels to a lot of searches for discs......It's a one man army out there so I won't complain about the thorns on hole 1 just be aware that you really wanna stay in the grass fairway.

excellent 9-holer 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 29, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Unami Disc Golf course is a challenging, well groomed course. While only nine holes at the current time it offers everything one could want in a disc golf course.
Holes 1-3 play relatively open, with 4-9 playing through rocky woods. Hole 2 is a long open down-hill shot, with the pin off to the right in the woods. The hill is pretty steep down and can be very slick. Hole 3 plays back up the hill and ends in the woods. Hole 4 is a nice shot over water that requires a well placed shot to stay out of the creek. The pin placement on hole 6 is really neat with it placed behind a huge boulder and protected by a fallen tree. The last few holes are play very elevated with lots of boulders and thick woods. Hole 8 is set atop a large boulder laden hill and requires a nicely placed shot to avoid rolling away.
The holes have a nice mix of right and left handed holes to please all players. The lengths vary as well, but the long holes feel long, and the short holes don't feel short because of the unforgiving terrain. Overall this course offers enough of a challenge to please more advanced players, but is not overwhelming to new players
Each tee has a nice sign that shows the layout of the hole and the rubber tee pads are great. There are also signs in between each hole to help navigate the course.
This really is a well laid out course and just because it is only 9 holes should not be a deterrent, this is one of those rare 9 holers actually worth making a trip to play.

Cons:

The course doesn't drain very well and holds water, so after a heavy rain or snow thaw the course can be extremely muddy.
The rough/brush is pretty thick in spots and could be a pain in the warmer months.
The holes are spread out and there is quite a walk between some of the holes, so the signs directing you to the next holes are essential if you don't want to get lost.

Other Thoughts:

This course is located just minutes from the PA turnpike, and there are plenty of restaurants close to the course. Nockamixon is only 20 minutes away from Unami and is well worth playing as well.
There are restrooms at the course, but they are closed in November for the winter.
This course is an outstanding, well-designed 9-holer. There are supposedly plans to expand the course to a full 18 holes. There is room and if they are anything like the original 9 holes this course could be one of the better courses in PA.
