Pros:

I've never pulled up to a course, and had such a wow factor as soon as I arrived! The place looks like you're on a set of the movie waterworld. The land looks immaculate and the water and water fountains look incredible. I can almost guarantee the first thing you say when you get here is wow. The course itself has amazing tee pads, they have the short blue, then red, and then black. Very nice tee signs with a lot of signature holes. Hole 3/14/15/18 our all very iconic. A lot of par 4s that you can get the birdie but very high risk high reward type of course. Red baskets that our very visible from the tee box with flags on most. Pro shop on sight that has lightning disc with vision quest stamp for only 7 dollars. Also a mini corn hole inside the pro shop trailer/ along with scorecards and map. Beautiful vision quest sign and kiosk. Clearly marked out white stake ob lines. Course navigation is fairly simple. Friendly staff

Cons:

Water water water it's very beautiful but can actually feel a little repetitive. Good luck not throwing at least one in the drink. Holes 6-12 our kind of boring seem kind of just thrown in and not as well upkept.
Goose poop everywhere!!! Specially on the island hole you're going to be standing, and throwing in it.
10 dollars to play one of the higher pay to plays.

Other Thoughts:

There's a random penis statue on the course haha I guess to remind you you're going to lose or throw in the water. All in all it's a great course, but I feel it just dosen't quite hit that 5 star to me. I did get a massive skip shot off the water on 3 and cool to see. I will say from a visual standpoint one of the best courses ever however the playability just dosen't hit the 5 star mark

Quest for fun is successful! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 20, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Course upkeep is superb! Turf tee pads are plenty large and very grippy even in wet conditions. I'm becoming more a fan of these compared to concrete. Wood chips on the greens provide consistent landing zones throughout and helps you to spot the basket from the tee. Baskets were in great shape.

- Good tee signs: Hole layouts and distances were accurate and both the red and black tees had signs at every hole. #13 sign was lying on the ground next to the red pad.

-Hole Variety: Wide variety of distances from the red tees with several par 4 holes. Most holes gave you at least two routes to the pin, with the only exceptions being #2 and 3. Even so, all shot shapes are required if you want to avoid a blow-up hole after a drive goes awry.

-Risk/Reward: Here is where VisionQuest excels. Hole 3 is a great example of this with the prudent shot being a lay-up short of the pond but a tempting narrow route down the left side. Hole 9 as well with its the basket begging to be run at but OB just past the steep drop-off behind the basket. Just about every hole presents you with a risk/reward decision.

Cons:

-Lack of elevation change: As others have noted, there are no real elevation changes on the course. This isn't a huge con, but prevents it from being classified with the best courses.

-You will lose a disc or two in the water if you play a few rounds here. My group of 6 rec/intermediate players lost 10 over 36 holes. They maintain a large lost and found but that didn't help us as we were 9 hours from home.

Other Thoughts:

It was obvious no one was expecting us when we pulled in on a September day with a forecast of rain and more rain. There was a dry erase board with a phone number, which we called and someone met us less than 5 minutes later to open the pro shop. Both people we met were extremely friendly and certainly made us feel right at home. There were carts ready to go which we didn't really need but they definitely provided a welcome break from the rain in between throws. The course is a lot of fun to play which is why we made the decision on the fly to play a second round there. I don't know if this is a common occurrence, but as we were playing number 2 a huge pot-bellied pig came wandering around a stand of trees and headed up the road. I really like hole 16 with its pin tucked in the pines. There is just something pleasant about the aesthetic both from the tee and on the green. $10 to play is fair and I would definitely play it again when I'm back in the area. If you're on the fence, come give it a play!

Pros:

This course is located only a couple miles from blue ribbon pines which can make for an awesome day of disc golf. The course is 18 holes. The first 13 holes are moderately wooded and flat. The last 5 open up but that's where the water comes into play. The flow is very intuitive and easy to follow. There are 3 sets of tees on every hole which is always nice to see. The blues are shorts and are very short. The reds are the mids and add a lot more distance than the blues. Finally the blacks are the longs and add a little to quite a bit more distance and some different angles. The tees are all artificial turf and were all in fine shape. The baskets are red powder coated Arroyo Vortex's. This is the first time I've played on these and they're pretty nice. I did have a beautiful 40 plus foot shot that hit perfect get spit right out. I don't know if it was the inner crossed chains that caused this, but I was stunned that shot didn't stick. Other than that I liked the baskets. The tee signs are fantastic. They show a nice layout of the hole, par and distances. Very well done here. There are wood chips around pretty much every pin too which is pretty awesome. The course is permanent which I always love to see. Middle of nowhere kind of feel to it so it's a very peaceful vibe here. They have golf carts you can rent to which is cool. There is a nice mix of different shots required here. Left, right, tunnel. The water makes you triple think your approach on a number of holes. Really well done with this. The OB is explained in great detail on the map/scorecards provided with fair drop zones. All around a really awesome set up here. A lot of work has gone into making this a top notch course and it shows.

Cons:

$10 per person isn't out of hand for a course like this, but with BRP only being $8 and a few minutes away and being better it is a bit steep. I don't know what happened to all the rakes by the ponds to retrieve discs. We had a couple go in on 15 on the peninsula and there were no rakes to retrieve them. These would be nice to have here. Not necessarily a con but just something odd I'd never seen before but on the red tees there were 4 or 5 par 3.5's. This just seemed strange. Again not a con to the course but how do you score that. Kinda weird that's all.

Other Thoughts:

With this and BRP being so close you'd be hard pressed to find a better day of disc golf. Definitely worth playing if you're anywhere near here. I personally prefer BRP to this but this is still an awesome course. Also on our second round we played holes 3 through 18 with the only other 2 out there on a Wednesday. They were nice enough. Tried to eat our bags a couple times but otherwise very friendly. Never played a round with a couple pygmy goats before but it was pretty hilarious. They followed us around like dogs do.

Very solid course 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Challenging course, a wide variety of different and interesting holes requiring different shots. Very well maintained course, pads and pins. Very good signage.

Cons:

Relatively pricey. It felt a bit forced, with each hole needing to be special, to the point I kind of wanted a straight up normal DG hole.

Other Thoughts:

There are three great courses in MN, and I think this is third. Bryant Lake and Blue Ribbon are slightly better IMO, but it is close and with time I might change my mind.

A Very Special Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 21, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

- BEAUTIFULLY Maintained course.
- Some of the best all-weather teepads I have ever played on.
- Wide variety of holes, each hole feels unique.
- On site pro shop
- Practice basket and driving net

Cons:

- Water holes are very fun, but very unforgiving. For me personally, this is a con only because I don't want to re-buy my discs. We played when the lake was frozen over, and that saved me 3 discs.

Other Thoughts:

This course has a lot of very memorable holes. Hanging baskets, death putts, a teepad in the middle of a pond, driving from one large hill to another, and a ton of other very cool shots.
This private course is very well designed and maintained. A lot of time, effort, and money was put into this course, and it shows. This is definitely one of my favorite courses I have played.

Very unique and beautiful course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 14, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Immaculately manicured on every aspect of the course. When you first enter the grounds you get an overwhelming feeling of "wow" because it does not feel like you are pulling into a disc golf course. The course will make you throw every shot in your bag. Beautiful benches on every hole. Two zip lines that the owner, Mike, said will eventually be eight.

Cons:

The only con I can see is not multiple tee pads (if that's your thing). Every hole has just one position which may change with time. Not a whole lot of elevation changes but the uniqueness of the course makes up for it. The course just opened this year and for a course that is so new it is amazing.

Other Thoughts:

Only currently open to the public on the weekends. Best way to get a hold of the owner, Mike, is through Facebook. The email address provided on this site he never responded back with.

Destination Course Definition 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 26, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is built to be a disc golf course.
- It's not a park with a well designed course, this IS a course!
Water built specifically for disc golf! Amazing!
- Water elements built into peninsula greens, water carry peninsula, tees over the water. Not a lot of water - well utilized water.
Excellent Tees, Signage, Paths, Design, Layout.
- You can show up and play the course with no getting lost
Unique Elements make every hole one to remember.
- If you had a private course, you would want to have built all these unique things into the course... hanging basket, elevated baskets, basket set on a man made mountain!
Best disc return system I've ever seen!
- They collect water discs and keep them for return at the pro shop
Course design is a stand alone Pro
- Some courses only get rated based on the course design, but here the course design is only part of the whole experience. The course mixes long, medium and short holes. Some have multiple lanes, some have one you have to hit. Baskets are all perched in a defined bed of chips surrounded by logs. Many holes contain other elements of landscaping that give the hole more structure like the short elevated pin with long apron approaching the basket, or the zip lines that carry you from tee to basket.

Cons:

- The landscaping is still new. The sod and wooded areas still show signs of 'unfinished' and in some areas still unsafely so around tee pads. This course needs time to mature and more time finishing these details around safety as the course becomes meshed again with nature.
- For me, multiple tee locations. This seems like a designer's choice to have one tee pad, where I'm used to having multiple per hole.
- Partly an experiential thing, but since it's Built In to the course it's comment worthy. There's a Teepee built on the course off of #13 basket, and looks really cool. However, it's purpose is for 'enjoying smoked things' and have been invited in most times I've played, and once by one of the course staff. Even though some of these materials are legal in some states, I don't think this is a good for the sport. It is a private course, but this is not something to be included intentionally right on the course. The only 'pro' from this 'con' is that you can play through the slow smokers group when they make their pitstop.

Other Thoughts:

Additional Amenities!
- This site has the restrooms, proshop trailer, great parking, all around feel that you would expect as a member of a country club.

Awesome and fun course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 25, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is very fun. The holes are well thought out and it has several very unique holes. For example: One of the holes has a very, very tall basket with a well placed landing zone that make the basket normal height with scary deathputt. Missed the landing zone and ended up 2 inches from the pole of the basket, but missed the 10' straight up putt. Awesome hole. It also boasts several unique teepads, one floating in the water for an over the lake throw, and one suspended out over a lake. It is fun and bit scary to throw off a teepad without ground around it.

Cons:

The course is not finished yet. This is currently AWESOME, but will be even better when the course is complete. There are 4-5 holes with lots of water involved so if that isn't your thing then this probably isnt the course for you.

Other Thoughts:

This is an interesting course and an interesting place. It is the first time I've seen Par 3.5 holes on the course. They actually worked well and our card seemed to split between 3 and 4 on them so they are accurate too.

Great Character course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 17, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Super fun variety of holes. Varying distances and difficulty level. Tunnels, woods, water, elevation - all come into play on this course more than once. The challenge is extremely fun. I loved the fact that many of the holes have a uniqueness and character to them that you have not seen in other courses. The course has very well maintained rings around the baskets which give the course a very unique look. Peninsula greens certainly play with your mental game a bit! But that is part of the fun that this course brings to the game.

Cons:

Can't really think of any. The only thing I would suggest is that a few of the tee pads are very unique and I would make sure to do a practice "run-up" to get a feel for them.

Other Thoughts:

It will certainly help to have a spotter on a few of the holes. I throw RHFH and I would say that the course favors that throw, but there is usually more than one line to throw on each tee box.

The course was definitely worth the trip to play. For sure a course that you have to play to appreciate the unique quality and character that has been built in to it. I know I will try to make it back there again.

Pros:

Many original hole designs with a variety of unique features, such as shooting to a large mound(The Ant Hill), shots and tee boxes over water, elevated baskets, and peninsula shots.
Extremely well kept and attractive course, with very informative signs, nice tee boxes, and great greens, which are easy to spot and track because of the colored wood chips.
Most fairways have multiple paths to the basket to accommodate for different throwing techniques.
Many water hazards, but boats and rakes are available to retrieve disks.

Cons:

Hole #3 seems to have only two ways to get to the green, lay up on the near side of the water or try to throw over the entire water hazard. Maybe with a tree or two out of the way a spot on the left side of the water would be an option.

Other Thoughts:

We had the opportunity to meet the owner when we played.Very nice man who is very passionate about his disc golf course and disc golf in general.

Time and hard work definitely shows! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 26, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Unique course design. Signature hole #14 named "ant hill" is short yet challenging (water on left). Hole #5 teepad is extended out over the pond 15-20 feet above water.
-Turf teepads have been awesome! No need to brush off a ton of dirt so you don't fall.
-Constantly doing work on the course. Right on par with Blue Ribbon Pines as far as upkeep goes. Different colored wood chips, clean fairways, great tee signs and benches.
-Newly added zip lines on hole #14 and #15 that cut across water. I doubt they are for public use due to liability reasons, but it's a really cool idea!

Cons:

-Private course, but it's open to the public on certain occasions.
-Water. Lots of water. I personally enjoy the challenge, but it's very easy to lose 4+ discs in one round if you aren't on your game.
-There are a couple spots on the course (marked OB) that will really scratch up your legs because of thorny brush.
-Distance from twin cities. It's just outside the range, for me at least, where I'd only get out there for tournaments or organized events.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, this course is a MUST PLAY if you haven't already! This definitely raises the bar for how a course should look. Very well kept.

Pros:

Amazingly sculpted course
Water is avoidable if you can throw over 200 feet
Nice tee pads
When you pull up you can tell right away it's going to be a great course

Cons:

Not much of a "pro shop" I was planning on buying a couple discs for my friend coming with me to use for the day but selection was minimal
Member's only is a bit prohibitive BUT it has remained a beautiful course so that's clearly working for them

Other Thoughts:

I wish it were closer, I'd bite on the membership price.. but it's an hour away and I have several great courses within 20 minutes that are free or $5. I was fortunate enough to spot this on an "open to the public day" for a $5 entry and had a great time. I'll definitely go again when that becomes available.. that or if they'd let me do a punch pass I'd throw in some cash to make sure I could go back.. just that at $200/year and only maybe getting up there once every other month or so I don't see me getting "value" out of it.. Don't let that deter you though.. if you get the opportunity go play this course.. the only thing you may regret is that you can't play it again soon enough.

Also: we got stuck behind some people on hole 1 that took a timed 26 minutes.. we caught them as they were teeing off on hole 2.. we watched them drive and decided we'd skip ahead.. if you're new and reading this consider letting people play through if you have a group of people struggling to put and only 2 people behind you catching up right away.

WOW 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 10, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Vision Quest is an exceptionally fun and fairly challenging course that I see only improving as it matures. The course is manicured beautifully and the use of property is well executed. The course is geared to the multiple rounds per week intermediate to advanced level player. This course is NOT BEGINNER FRIENDLY, and it wasn't designed to be so. The private, member's only disc golf course is something new to the area and I think it is much needed. Overall it has a very polished and professional feel with great signage and landscaping. I am defiantly considering a membership, I just don't know if I would have time to play it enough. The cost seems very reasonable if you can play 15 or more times a year.

Pros:
- This course has some really unique "signature holes" that set it apart from many of the course I have played. Hole 9's green is one of the best, most well designed greens I have ever played (I really enjoy difficult and unique greens). The teepad for hole 5 is truly one of a kind. The peninsula greens are fairly challenging to hit and the Ant Hill (hole #14) is defiantly a sight to see.

- This course has almost everything you could ever want in different types of throws. To me it seemed to favor a RHFH or LHBH player but it does have some holes that run right to left. The mix of open and wooded shots on this course is fantastic.

- The tee signs are great and the layout of the course is very easy to follow.

- Water is very well used, there is just enough but not too much. The peninsula greens are challenging and awesome as mentioned above.

- Artificial OB lines are well thought out and used sparingly. I really dislike courses that are made harder by OB ropes alone and Vision Quest does not have this problem.

- The risk reward and different line options this course provides are very well designed. Most holes have a safe rout when OB or water is in play but your score will be punished for laying up as it should be. Many holes have multiple lines of attack that will befit many different playing styles.

- The hole distance balance in this course is awesome and it does not rely on extremely long holes to make it difficult.

- It seems like the course will be open to the public on some designated days and for some of the areas traveling leagues. This is a great idea so people can try before they buy a membership.

Cons:

Cons: Before you read the cons please understand that this course is being updated all the time and I am sure most of the things that I list will, or are being addressed. I am also going to be nitpicky because a course of this caliber deserves constructive criticism so it can grow to its full potential. I have only played the course once so bare that in mind as well.

- There is not much elevation to work with at this location. That being said the designers did do a good job with what they had. I do wish they would have made one downhill shot and one uphill shot instead of using most of the ground that was moved to make one hole (The Ant Hill hole #14). They did tons of work and I really appreciate the effort but the area lacks elevation and there is really nothing anyone can do to make elevation changes of 20' or more. I really like big elevation changes so this is a con for me and one of the reasons this course is not a 5 discer IMO.

- I am not sold on the artificial turf. I had no problems when I was there and they were great to play on. My concern would be when they get wet how well they would grip. I did hear someone complaining to his group that he thought they were too grippy when dry but I had no problem. I would also be concerned about how this surface will hold up over time. If the pads are well maintained and I assume they will be this will not be an issue. I do really like the fact the these pads can be moved very easily to tweak the way a hole plays.

- Hole 16 when I played it had one big glaring issue that effected my buddies round. The pine trees that protect the green have branches all the way to the ground that are very thick. There is also a thick bed of pine needles under and around all the trees. This is a blind shot into the middle of what reminds me of a Christmas tree farm. The problem is you can potentially lose your disc under a pine tree and be within easy birdie range. My buddy had this happen and during a league round he got 3 minuet ruled and had to re-tee we never found his disc but I know it was no more than 30' from the pin. All that needs to be done IMO to fix this problem is cut the bottom 2' of branches off the pine trees and for all I know this has already been done.

- Last con and I really hope they add this... Multiple pin and pad locations. This course is awesome but I think just like all courses it would get old after a year or so of playing once or twice a week. By having two pads and two pins at every hole I think potential members would get a much better bang for their buck and would potentially have 4 completely different layouts to play.

Other Thoughts:

Vision Quest is a disc golfer's paradise on the rise. The area is jam packed with 4 disc rated courses and with Blue Ribbon Pines right down the road East Bethel is now IMO a disc golf destination for any serious player. There are tons of other activates within 30 minutes such as a wave pool, parks, picnic areas, lakes, rivers and lots of camping so bringing the whole family is defiantly not out of the question. I just read the other reviews and see they added a Zip Line to I assume hole #15 which sounds awesome. I am going to try to post some hole tips as well so if you want a hole by hole break down keep an eye on the course page. I can't wait to make it back to play the course again and I hope my review did it justice. AWESOME COURSE!!!

Pros:

Where to begin? The amazing maintenance/landscaping? The massive mulched greens? The grippy artificial turf tee pads? This is a private, and still evolving course where "no expense spared" seems to be the guiding principle. Excellent tee signs on each hole left little question as to the hole's layout and where the basket was placed. Nothing generic about them. The tee pads were excellent, the right length, the foot fault line painted on so you don't step off the pad during a drive (especially useful for #18's "floating" pad) and the baskets were great (my first time playing on the Arroyo's).

Some of the pads were very unique, particularly #5 which was elevated off a slope over the pond and #18 which was actually on the water itself, requiring you to walk down a small dock to get to it. As you may have guessed from the photos and that description, water is a fairly prominent feature on quite a few holes. I happen to love water carries so for me this was a big plus and none of the shots required massive drives to clear the water but placement was key on some of them. Rakes were also available if you ended up on the edge of a pond rather than the middle as well.

The standout hole for me had to be #14 where you're throwing from an elevated tee box to an elevated pin on this massive man-made hill. Really fun and an impressive sight.

Cons:

The cons are few and far between. The #5 pad, while quite sturdy did have a little play which can be slightly disconcerting since you're hovering 20ft. above a pond. That said, some courses have signature holes, well this course has signature pads as well and #5 looked awesome and is probably the "signature pad" of this course.

Also, the only other hiccup is there isn't much elevation on the course so a lot of it plays flat or with very gentle slopes. #14 as does #17 addresses this with elevated pads and creative basket placement. Although, the rest of the course more than makes up for this. I didn't even think about it until just now while writing this review. While I was there I was too busy admiring the laundry list of things this course does right and having fun.

Other Thoughts:

Of all the things VisionQuest does right, the big one is that it is *fun*. Some courses are just hard with crazy tight, long fairways and some are easy but fun. VisionQuest has a high fun factor while also remaining exciting and challenging. I had a blast playing it with its mix of semi-wooded and open holes. A very park-like atmosphere/feel and quite scenic to boot with ridiculous landscaping. The kind of course I love to play. You won't see greens like this anywhere else (except maybe Blue Ribbon Pines!) and the risk/reward shots are all over the place due to water, pin placement or both (I'm looking at you #9).

From what I understand, this will be a "members only" course at some point so it will probably maintain the serene feel it has now rather than having to wait for a group at every tee. It's also just down the street from Blue Ribbon Pines, another amazing course. The course is constantly being improved and tweaked with the owner really striving to make this an even more amazing place than it already is. I hope to make it back at some point in the future so I have a chance to check things out when they're 100% complete.

Needless to say, I enjoyed my time here immensely and would highly recommend playing here if you get a chance. East Bethel was already a bucket list destination and with the addition of VisionQuest, you should probably move it up on your list.
