VisionQuest...a Visionary course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 19, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

VisionQuest is unlike any course I have seen before. As a traveling salesman, I play awesome courses throughout the United States including Vail, Colorado, Aspen, Colorado, Golden Gate Park in San Francisco just to name a few. I have also played courses in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, Idaho, Washington, and Montana. I have never seen anything quite like VisionQuest. "Floating" tee boxes, elevated tee boxes, elevated baskets, an "island" shot, zip lines, well-designated drop zones, and more. Extremely challenging, but well thought out and not stupid hard. This course is a must visit, and as it is still being fine tuned by the owner, it is likely to only get better.

Cons:

That I'm not better than I am ;)

Other Thoughts:

Can't wait to see the completed "VISION" as the owner has plans for tournament viewing platforms, a restaurant, pro shop, camping sites, other activities and who knows what else!

Plenty of Variety 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 4, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course is absolutely amazing! The tee pads are ideal for any weather conditions and the Mach-X buckets couldn't be better. VQ offers a ton of variety in shots and plenty of obstacles, including trees, water, island holes, tee pads over elevated over water, and elevated baskets. The course even features two zip lines, which were recently added by Mike. The "Ant Hole" is awesome and definitely the signature hole on the course. For an area that lacks elevation, hence BRP 2 miles down the road, Mike has added elevation changes throughout the course, which is nice. For a course that just opened, it's got some great landscaping features w/ more to come I'm sure. Mike has done more at this course in 1 year than many courses in the metro area have done in their lifetimes.

Cons:

I really don't have any cons, but the course just has to "grow up." Once the grass seeds properly and the woods get cleared up a little more, this course will only get better.

Other Thoughts:

Get out to this course when you have the opportunity. I've had the chance to play it several times now and every time I have gone, new features have been added. The tent to hang out in before and after the round is also nice feature.

Lastly, I would love to see additional holes added, 18 isn't enough when you're out there.

Pros:

This is the coolest disc golf adventure ever! Challenging and beautiful not your run of the mill halfway mowed and unthought out course you can find everywhere.

Cons:

None

Other Thoughts:

If you think blue ribbon is good, you will need to try this to get a real grasp on what great disc golf should be. Love this place and I've been to over 100 courses nation wide and I live in Billings MT where we have a top rated course known as Diamond X or Phipps Park to the locals.

A Minnesota Gem 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 17, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

As soon as you take one look at the property you know you are someplace very special. Scenic, challenging, and fully dedicated to disc golf. Maintained to the highest standards with beautiful wood chips, mowed fairways and relatively zero litter. Many signature holes including #14, my personal favorite. The baskets and tee pads were unique and both worked quite well. The option of using rakes or small boats to retrieve discs that went in the water was also a big plus. This course will keep players coming back for more.

Cons:

Very few, if any:
Number 5's tee pad was a bit terrifying due to my fear of heights. I ended up stepping over the line because I couldn't bring myself to go to the back edge of the pad.
Some might say that the course favors left to right drives, but if you can't make the disc go both directions then you might want to stick to courses that are a little bit more beginner friendly.

Other Thoughts:

This is a course that is paving the way for pay to play. It has a ton of character and I would put it right up there with Blue Ribbon Pines and Bryant Lake Regional Park.

Disc golf Playground 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 23, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Risk Reward
-Holes with clear delineated fairways
-great mix of par 3's and 4's
-like the idea of the par 3.5
-T pads are awesome, movable, and the perfect amount of traction
-baskets catch well
-great signage
-Already saw improvements made from other reviewers suggestions...Mike is reading, so leave feedback and ideas.

Cons:

No cons, just thoughts.

Other Thoughts:

I think he is planning to do this but it would be great if all the T pads are dug into flush with the Earth so that you don't fall off after your shot or you can start your drive at an angle off of the T pad.

I wonder if he is planning on building a permanent clubhouse?

Will there be multiple pins with multiple T pads?

Seriously, this place is so damn cool, and it isn't even technically open yet. I can't wait to see what Mike does. I love that there are actual fairways and lines to hit rather than a crap shoot through a bunch of trees, very well designed and maintained course.

Pros:

Has everything blue ribbon pines doesn't. Awesome turf tees, Mach x baskets, elevation, and 2 zip lines. Mike is one of the friendliest guys you will ever meet and loves feedback and is open to suggestions. I can't wait to see what will become of this place considering it is already at the top of my list.

Cons:

Knowing some of the ideas coming into play in the future I have no negative things to say.

Other Thoughts:

Can't wait to play some tournaments here. Perhaps Mike can start a league for members.

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 7, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is like a playground for disc golfers. VERY innovative holes, super fun and interesting without being too novelty-like. There are two zip-lines erected, and I am just waiting to see how they will be utilized. Beautifully maintained and the owner Mike is extremely welcoming of ideas and will continue to upgrade this already spectacular course.

Cons:

Lost discs, but Mike said he's developing a styrofoam ring that will float discs but won't effect flight. In the meantime, I bring a few throwaway discs for the few water shots.

Other Thoughts:

Course has a new awesome feature every time I'm there. This last time seeing the two zip-lines got me pumped. New tee pads going up to offer some different angles. Mike also said he has plans for a fountain that will play on hole 18 and will go on when there is pressure on the 18th tee pad. Can't make it up.

Would be nice if they verified names on lost discs rather then letting people grab what they want.

A magical experience. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 1, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

A very thoughtfully laid out course. You can tell that it was created by someone who is passionate about disc golf.
This course is difficult and though it doesn't have a lot of elevation changes you will find yourself challenged on every hole. The tee pads are very nice and can be moved to different positions. The owner Mike and his wife are gracious hosts and are open to suggestions. I am particularly excited about the idea of teepee camping and zip lines to take you from tee to basket or from basket to tee. This is a wonderful course and I encourage anyone who loves disc golf and fun to come out and play it.

Cons:

Not many that I can think of and seeing as how this was only the developmental stage for the course it will only get better and better. One thing I can think of is a few water shots where you could potentially lose a disc but the water is fairly clear and they have the appropriate tools for disc retrieval. Or you could just take my approach and go for a swim!

Other Thoughts:

I look forward to playing this course again and again and feel it is a nice contrast to Blue Ribbon Pines come and check it out for yourselves!

Cons:

Other Thoughts:

Such an incredibly well thought out course that has so much to offer. This is a PDGA pro quality layout all the way and tests all manner of different shots and scenarios. You better believe that when this course opens back up to the public with memberships that I'm going to be at the front of the line waiting to get mine. It's beyond words that we have someone with resources to build an amazing course like this.

Disc Golf Playground 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 26, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Surely one of the most beautiful, unique, and fun courses you will ever experience.

You will find this is not just a disc golf course, but a work of art. There is clearly passion put into the course from everything down to the framed greens, color-chipped fairways, random sculptures, and club house tent of wood.

The course layout is challenging, creative, and constantly changing. It will force you to use a variety of approaches, play 'golf' holes, and throw some shots you've never tried before. The tee pads are movable so course redesign is very easy.

Last but not least, every hole is FUN in it's own way. Some holes will be amazing birdies to write home about. Some holes will keep you guessing on how to attack, and looking forward to the next attempt. Some holes have zip lines. All holes are picture perfect.

Cons:

Bring a few discs you don't love. There are about 3-6 holes where water is directly in play. Discs are periodically fished out, but don't expect to get them back soon.

The Arroyo baskets are not my favorite. They may prevent putts from cutting through but feel very heavy on hits. This means if you are not hitting exactly in the center, expect your putt to spit.

Other Thoughts:

I wish this course was closer to the cities.

The most fun you'll have on a disc golf course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 10, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Even though this course is brand new, I give it a FIVE!!!!!

This year so far I have played 79 3.5-5 rated courses across the Midwest. In years past, all over the country. Vision Quest is more memorable than any other! From pulling into the driveway, until the end, this was the most fun I have ever had on a disc golf course! My username doesn't reflect it, but I've been playing disc golf for 10 yrs and everywhere I travel, I play the best rated courses within 2-3 hrs of my destination.(disc golf fanatic)

Landscaping- Imeccable greens, woodchips galore, ponds, an "ant hill"(large elevated hill resembling a "GIANT" sized ant hill), elevation used where available, elevated teepads and baskets, island-like chip circles surrounding most all of the baskets, a teepee, outcroppings, defined OB and rough, beautiful benches, peninsula holes. Creative pin placements use the land brilliantly.

Pins- Arroyo. I've played on these before(local to MN?). They catch well and are painted a beautiful red color.

Teepads- Grippy, sturdy, clean, artificial turf. Just the right length with a foot fault line painted on. Elevated teepads over water! I like how the teepad locations can be moved. I assume it's just I in case minor adjustments have to be made with the layout of the holes.

Fairways- beautifully done with the help of the gentleman/ladies over at Blue Ribbon Pines. That's what I loved about this area. The love for disc golf is more important than, "my course is better than yours and maintained only by me," type of attitudes. The folks at BRP work on the grass and greens while the folks over at VQ work on the woodchips, benches, and other woodwork. Holes shoot through the woods, over water many times, and onto beautifully maintained basket areas(woodchips islands as I call them), both elevated and depressed(lowered)basket locations.
Great variety throughout the course. I used every shot in my bag. Long, short, hyzer, anhyzer, tight and narrow fairways, open fairways, and of course the water adding that risk factor.

Cons:

Nothing that can't be fixed.

Bees nests under the teepads. I believe it was hole number 8. My cousin was stung. But that's an easy fix.

In my opinion, all of the holes on the course are par 3. Maybe a couple long tees or long basket locations with 2 baskets per hole?

I'm not sure if the elevated teepads were supposed to have some give to them, but it wasn't too bad.

No other cons in my opinion except for the fact that the designers of this course don't have access to unlimited land and resources. Or do they? :)

Other Thoughts:

Make this course a destination!!

Did I forget to mention you can ZIP LINE from one side of the fairway to the other on a hole? And the hole goes over water!!? You shoot to a peninsula! And then glide over to it just like your disc! Wow!!!! Fun!

They have boats, kayaks, and rakes to help retrieve your disc/s from the water.

When you pull into the driveway, not only do you see disc golf heaven on earth beautifully maintained...You see a massive tent area for shelter with ice chests and bags games and league/record/ace information. There is also a wooden disc rack for lost discs(I returned about 5 I found). I lost a blizzard boss though. A favorite of mine on hole #1 going for the long hyzer bomb.

All of the water holes allow you to play it safe or go for the "bomb".

Big thanks to Mike, Shawn, and Ray!!
