Pros:
West Brook Park DGC is a nicely wooded 18 hole course that plays in a mostly disc golf exclusive area of the park. The only other park users you might encounter are walkers on the path that winds around the park. This doesn't really come into play though.
The baskets are Innova Discatchers that are all in decent shape and catch fine. No issues with these. One basket and pin placement per hole.
The course is mostly flat but there are a couple holes with a little bit of elevation involved which adds to the fun factor a bit. The creek comes into play on holes 5, 6 and 7. Most notably 5 and 7 which each require you to throw over the water. Hole 5 is a full on water carry whereas hole 7 does offer a dead straight shot that avoids the water which is pretty tight. The cleanest option is the RHBH hyzer over the creek on the right. The water was low and clear when I played it but that's certainly not always the case.
There's two different sizes of tees here. The longer holes all have nice long pads that're probably 4' wide and 10' long. A few of the shorter holes have shortened versions of these. All are perfectly suited to the holes they're for. They're all mostly level and very grippy. No complaints with these.
There's tee signs at each hole that have a basic map, hole#, par, distance and a next tee arrow. Very basic but these contain all the info you need.
The course starts and ends right by the parking area, is in year round and is free to play. Very clean and well maintained course. There's numerous benches scattered throughout the course too, which was appreciated on the almost 90 degree day that we played it.
Cons:
The tee sign distances didn't match what the actual distances were a number of times. The distances on the DGCR app seemed to match up correctly though, so I'm not sure what happened there. Not a huge deal, but worth noting.
Holes 11 through 16 start to feel pretty similar. They besically just play back and forth throwing down a woodlined hallway about 25' wide. Six times in a row just in different directions.
There's a couple annoying walks between holes out here, mostly early. These are between holes 4 and 5, 5 and 6, 8 and 9, 10 and 11 and 16 and 17. That's a lot of extra walking for one course. A few of the walks could've been better marked as well, most notably 16 to 17.
The walking trail doesn't come into play for the most part, but it could in a few spots with a bad drive or kick. Be aware of your surroundings and it should be fine.
Other Thoughts:
This was a really solid course. I enjoyed my round out here and would gladly play this one again. It's not a must play or anything but is worth a visit if you find yourself out this way. Very glad we made the stop out here today. Very course course.
