Design Completely Missed The Mark Here! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 28, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Brad Huggins designed the two wonderful little beginner courses over at Stayton and Sublimity. This course features all the same great amenities, nice course map at the beginning, great informative tee signs, nice concrete tee pads and brand new Innova baskets with the yellow band.

Unfortunately, while those beginner courses perfectly matched up with their intended audience, this course completely missed in that regard. Most college disc golfers want to come out with their loaner discs, have a nice social event playing in flip flops, maybe introduce a pretty sorority girl to disc golf, all without working up a sweat or looking through tall, wet grass for their discs. This course was complete boredom for me as I trudged through the fields. There is no variety in the holes. Holes 3-8 were all between 330' and 384'. Each one has you throwing down a 10 foot wide fairway with tall grass on both sides. This grass was waist high in places. A tree has been planted around each basket which will in time offer some resistance. Then # 9 finishes with a 444' par 3.

I can say that I really liked the cool use of railroad ties on # 8 to build a raised basket platform. Very clever!

Cons:

Sorry, almost everything concerning the design. It's too long for the average college golfer to enjoy. It's a tedious repetitious design. It's windy as hell out here. This tall grass off the fairways was miserable today and it was a dry day. On a wet day, it would be horrendous.

Other Thoughts:

Move that wonderful little beginner course from Stayton here and these college kids would love it. They would be able to socialize and have some success. No wasted time looking for lost discs. I see this course falling into disrepair and decay. Such a waste of great amenities, signs, pads, baskets!
