In the West, but not much Height

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 29, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Though not having many long holes, Westheight manages to provide a little excitement with some interesting elevation and pesky trees. Tees, signs, and baskets are all in good shape, and while there's no dedicated parking lot, there's plenty of street parking.

Elevation change is really what makes this course not trash. In addition to a few uphill and downhill holes, there are a few dropoffs that will make you nervous on putts. Holes 5 and 8 have backstops behind the baskets, which makes ace runs more fun, and getting the right angle on 2 might be difficult.

This course manages to have a decent park-style feeling without the Disc Golf course feeling secondary. Sure, no favors were given to the course, but at least the other parts of the park aren't getting in the way of the course. Am I stretching to find pros to list here at this point? Maybe.

Cons:

Not much distance. Like, none at all. So many holes have not much going for them, and while it doesn't ruin the course, it holds it back from any potential at all. Some holes are also completely open; take any line you want on 3 and 4, and apart from roads and hills and such, any line you want on 5 and 9.

The "gully" runs through the course and is a little annoying. It's easy to stay out of, probably won't cause you to lose any discs, and has multiple bridges to help you just in case the water level is a little high, but it's still not a good challenge at all. The course would be much better if the water was put in an underground pipe and the gully was filled in.

While this is a good beginner course, it's not an excellent one. Beginners will probably find their way into the gully once per round, and the dropoff behind hole 1 and other hillsides can frustrate them.

Several holes play near some roads. Nothing that's too bad, but they have more traffic than simple park roads do.

Other Thoughts:

There's really not much to say here; this is an okay course, but has nothing that will keep people coming back time and again. With so little room to work with, there's just no way an excellent course could be placed here. If only there was a little more room to work with somehow; even slightly reducing the number of holes in this land could have made for some better results.

There's some great safari potential if you're okay with taking some more aggressive shots around the picnic shelter.

Zounds! What Zealous Zoning. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 8, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

While wedged into a small park, all the elevation in the park makes this course anything but boring. The drop off behind the baskets of 1 and 6, uphills on 2, 3 and 8, the valley that is hole 5, and the mountain that is hole 9 will leave you satisfied even though the holes are so short.

Landing zones are more important than ever here, especially when every hole could be a birdie for even an intermediate player. You must land to the right of the basket on 1 or you'll be flying down a steep hill, hitting the other side of the valley at the right height on hole 5 is essential to a birdie, hole 6 has the basket on a small rise which extends about 15ft on the front and back side of the pin, and hole 8 is similar to hole 5 in hitting the hill correctly.

Tee signs showing each hole's distance, a generously sized concrete tee pad and a shiny new Veteran basket on each hole are nice amenities I hope don't get damaged. Speaking of amenities, the course manages to stay out of the way of the picnic shelter, playground, and tennis/futsal courts.

Even hole 7 - which is basically flat - keeps things interesting by setting the basket directly behind a tree.

Cons:

No parking lot. Street parking is your only option. Along with this, holes 3, 5, 6, and 8 play extremely close to roads. The forehand player will risk a bad throw going into the road on the latter three (the guardrail saved my horrible flick on hole 5).

Hole 4 is the only bad hole on the course. Slightly downhill, 192ft, and no OB threats, it's an all-day ace run and an easy birdie for anyone that can hit a putt.

Close to (but not directly in) a rougher area of town, which is why I said I hope the amenities last.

Other Thoughts:

Yes, the holes are extremely short, so a -9 or even -10 isn't impossible especially with holes 5 and 8 being forgiving to ace runs. Up to you if that's a pro or a con.

Getting a course this good out of a plot of land this small is a feat. It's not the most incredible place in the world, but it's more difficult than the distances (191.6ft average) make it sound. Worth a stop if you're in the area, and for baggers this will cost you all of 20 minutes to play.

Pros:

Tee Signs
Concrete Tees
New Dynamic Baskets
Very Beginner Friendly

Cons:

Very Easy Layout

Other Thoughts:

First tee is west of the playground. This is a fun course that won't require a lot of experience. Par 27, one or two discs will do in a pinch. Some decent hills and a few well placed trees provide a bit of opposition.

Everything is newly installed. Some tee pad footings are soft and the grass seed hasn't sprouted yet. Trash can near the first tee.

1, 4, and 5 play downhill, and hole 1 is fast behind the pin. Hole 2 has enough distance and contour to create a tough line, and a mature tree atop a small hill in front of the target. 5 is downhill, crossing the concrete culvert, to a pin well backstopped by the grassy turf. 6 has a pin on a slope that can be hard to hold onto. 7 has a tree taking away a super direct line, and the ditch is to the left snd behind. 9 is uphill and over the culvert.

I shot a 23 on the first round. Missed 2 birdie putts also. -4 and hoping for more. This is a pitch and putt corse for the most part. Elevation change and wind are the main concern otherwise. I've seen this course decried as baby Water Works, but that may be overhyping it.
