A Good Quick Round 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 9, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I very easy course, not alot of technicals and a decent variety of throws and distances. I find this course the better of the courses in the area to play if you are looking for a quick round. There are not alot of places to loose a disc with two exceptions. Stays clean most of the time and all 18 baskets are installed.

Cons:

This place is very busy. Between fellow golfers and the vehicle traffic it can get frustrating. Beware of the creek in the back 9. This creek will eat discs not because of the depth but because the mysterious smell comming from it will make you weigh your options on if it's worth getting wet. The other problem that this course has when it's not very cold or hot are the kids/homeless that hang out on the benches but I have never had any issues with them. They just make me uneasy.

Other Thoughts:

There are some holes on this course that make for easy birdies to get your confidence up!

Lovin’ Every Minute Of It! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 7, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

As only 2 holes are showing just barely over 300 and everything else is less than that, I will review and rate this course as a pitch & putt type course. There is some great use of elevation, water, OB, mandos, and trees here. The use of the hills here is great. Firing downward, upward or even straight over a little valley and trying to hit aces is a blast. There is just enough creek and OB to add the risk reward factor to this place. Most of the holes do have a few tree here and there, but they still give you a multitude of routes to the hole. As these are mostly ace runs, I must say they were all different shots. So there wasn't the repetitiveness that some pitch & putt courses sometimes get. The baskets and concrete tee pads are in decent shape for this small course. Bathrooms and thrash cans are available as well as the pubic pool. These holes are lot of fun!

Cons:

The tee signs are in bad shape and are almost illegible. The ones that do have info need their footage and maps updated. This place is very busy and used by lots of disc golfers and pedestrians alike. Navigation was a little confusing at some spots, but too bad.

Other Thoughts:

The Fun Factor here was pretty cool. This is not normally my cup of tea, but I really had a good time here. I really think that if I had limited time to play a course while in the Oklahoma City area, this is certainly one that I would consider making the stop at again.

Short(er) and Sweet 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 8, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Good variety of shots in and out of the Oklahoma wind for the beginning player. Water is in play on about 5 holes (not counting the little creeks) and provides a little bit of a challenge, but wet discs are retrievable for the most part. Easy to navigate with plenty of birdie opportunities. Only a handful of holes that really allow you to air it out. LOTS of elevation changes and out-of-bounds roads to keep you honest. Not heavily wooded but still plenty of trees in play.

Cons:

Busy. In a busy park and appears to be a fairly popular course. Large groups like to play the holes near the parking lot and hold up play of those playing through.

Plays pretty fast and not necessarily in the best part of town.

Has had a bunch of trees removed due to parasite infection. As a result, this course has been simplified to a large amount. Almost half of the holes were affected and those that had a fairly unique assortment of available lines are now almost entirely wide open. My original rating for this course was a 3, but it's now a 2.5 tops.

Other Thoughts:

Like others have said, not a bad course per say, just not a great one either. Lots of variety, but the course is more beginner level and serves as a good warm up for anybody who knows what they are doing.

UPDATE: Plays even quicker than before, but still almost always crowded. Still a good beginner course or a excellent warm-up or short disc course.

Plays fast 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 7, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Played very fast (not crowded when I was there). It was challenging, but not overwhelming to me. Concrete tee boxes

Cons:

Course needs a lot of maintenance. Signs are missing, damaged, or illegible. A couple of baskets are missing. Could be made more interesting by utilizing the drainage ditch running through the park, but some bridges would need to be built to make that more feasible.

Other Thoughts:

The directions on the front page are bad. They'll get you there, but it's difficult to make any sense of them, especially using the mobile version. I ended up starting on 14 because I was in a hurry to catch a flight and didn't have time to drive in circles looking for the hole 1.

From I-44 and NW 36th, take N Grand Blvd south to the second park entrance. Parking will be on the right.

Pitch n' Putt 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 6, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Really fun quick course. I've finished it in a little over half an hour. There are only a couple of holes you can really throw far on, but most of the holes give you some opportunity to try out lots of different lines. The course really utilizes every bit of the area it can, and was well designed. There are some nice hills and elevation change. Nice long tee pads, moderately wooded, but almost no place to lose a disc, unless you hit one water spot on 13. It's a great course to practice mid-range shots and putt. Great course for beginners to build shot confidence without getting lost, and great for more advanced players to work on accuracy. Almost all holes can be birdied with ease, though you'll quickly see inconsistencies with your game when your score isn't as low as it should be.

Cons:

Gets really packed. It's kind of the party course and family course at the same time. Lots of drunks and big groups can slow down play, even though most people let you play through no problem. Course has seen tons of vandalism, there is consistently litter everywhere, and most of the signs are gone or destroyed.

Other Thoughts:

Definitely worth a round, bring someone new to the sport, it will be a great time. If you're in a pinch for time, you can get in a quick 18.

short but fun course

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 1, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-good use of the land, elevation comes into play as several holes weave back and forth across and along a ravine
-concrete tees and relatively newer baskets
-navigation is pretty straightforward even without any real signage (it's missing or vandalized). it will usually be busy enough that you can just follow the group ahead of you. the one tricky spot is after hole 4, turn left and go to the bottom of the hill to get to hole 5's tee, it shoots back in the direction of hole 3's tee
-short holes make for a birdie fest and several ace opportunities, rec players will love it and advanced players will be disappointed if they don't have a putt on pretty much every hole
-even though it's short, there are lots of obstacles and managing the elevation and slanted greens (1, 4, 6-9, 13-15) or elevated baskets (1, 6, 15), especially in the omnipresent OK wind, adds to the difficulty for less experienced/skilled players
-weekly minis

Cons:

-most signs missing or vandalized, the concrete tees and the group ahead of you are your navigational aids
-there is a creek that comes into play on holes 13, 15-18. some parts aren't too bad for disc retrieval but some are pretty rough. it will be a serious threat for beginners in the wind, especially on holes 15 & 17
-most of the front 9 is packed into a pretty small area. beginners + the OK wind = discs in other fairways. keep your wits about you
-if you're looking for a place to fire up the big guns, this isn't it. for the experienced player, there are 3 or 4 holes that you'll throw a driver off the tee. and the distances listed here seem off, hole 8 is definitely not over 300'.
-a lot of beginners or chuckers play here who don't know or care much about etiquette
-not a lot of shade, bring water

Other Thoughts:

Will Rogers Park has a historic disc golf course, a Steady Ed design from 1979. I don't know how closely the current layout follows that original one as the course has changed quite a bit even since I first played it 12 years ago. It does have a more old school vibe: fun, short, a little cramped, multiple ace runs. The mild to slightly moderate elevation changes in play add to the fun and it's still a good course for beginners, casual players, and intermediate level players looking to feel good about their score.

Dealing with the elevation in the Oklahoma wind is the primary challenge on most of the course. Less experienced players will also need to watch out for the creek that comes into play on the last handful of holes. Most holes have an obvious line with one or two main obstacles to beat but you have options most of the time to go straight at the basket or wider hyzer, BH or FH.

Will Rogers is probably the busiest course in OKC. It's way more forgiving than Dolese and easier to navigate. I could see Eldon Lyon eventually pulling away some of the rec crowd but Will Rogers has more fun ace runs and easier birdie opportunities.

For the casual player, this is the course to play in OKC. For the older or historically interested player, this is also a must stop. For the advanced player looking to be challenged, head to Dolese or the courses down in Moore.

Quick 'n' Fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 12, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course can be played in less than an hour. There are a good variety of shot opportunities. I would think everyone would enjoy this course, from beginner to pro. The locals were good to get along with. While the holes are short with the exception of 17, they still make you pick your shot. The course makes you try different shots, while still remaining fairly easy and fun. This course would make a good Ace Race course. My personal goal is to score 36 here. It is attainable. I will be back. Very fun course, and very close to downtown OKC and or Will Rodgers Airport.

Cons:

A couple baskets could use repair, but they are all standing and in working order. I find it hard to fault this place.

Pros:

Fun course that you can play pretty quick. Ok course for beginners and others alike. The longest hole is like 375 but everything else is reachable for most players. Good mix of left and right shots and a little elevation as well. It is pretty easy to follow and there isnt really any spots to lose your plastic.

Cons:

You can tell this is an older course, most of the tees are elevated a good 4 to 6 inches therefor there is a step up needed. Tee signs are missing as well.

Other Thoughts:

The shop over the road has a ok selection of discs and a place to get some cold drinks. We stop here all the time for a "warm up" round for Dolese which is pretty close( 5 minutes)

Pros:

A nice course with some elevation change and water on a few holes. Long Concrete tee pads. There are some signs but easy to follow as there is a some what path from tee to tee. Mostly short to medium distance.

Cons:

Missing signs, and the tees/baskets have had a lot of erosion so tees have drop offs and the baskets set about 6 to 8 inches higher.

Other Thoughts:

You can get disc across the street near hole 12 at the foodmart. There was no one here today (to cold/windy) but the park has a swimming pool and a lot of other things so it could be busy during warmer months.

the HOLE INFO. on the course page is way off or for other tees not the concrete tees.

Pros:

Clean, well maintained course designed a long time ago, therefore perfect for beginners and for warm-up and practice these days. Easy to follow, no really blind holes or long walks. Good design with variety. Disc shop next to the course.

Cons:

Tee pads- an accident waiting to happen. They are raised (washed out over time) sometimes up to almost a foot off the ground, so you can't run up from behind and if you slip off the front you could fall or pull a muscle.
Signs- Most gone/vandalized (yet easy to navigate).

Noodle arms unite! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 7, 2007 Played the course:once

Pros:

Clean park, short grass playing surface. Good variety of shots, especially when the wind kicks up.

HOLE DETAILS:

1 - Hyzer shot across drainage ditch. Multiple lines for sidearm throwers and lefties.

2 - Pin guarded by lots of trees; again, multiple paths.

3 - Upshot across the ditch. Most adv players and above will deuce this.

4 - Parallels the road. Go too far and you'll coast down the hill.

5 - Perfect hole for an S-shot. Lots of tree roots on the green.

6 - Easy ace run here.

7 - Anhyzer uphill shot with trees to negotiate. Slope is devilishly slippery when wet.

8 - Nice 325' air shot. Bomb this one and your disc will wind up in the police station parking lot.

9 - Multiple lines, a few trees to contend with.

10 - Another short hole but because of the trees, not much of an ace run. A skip might make it.

11 - Air it out. Straight shot along a line of trees, which don't come into play unless you grip-slip.

12 - Straight alley between two lines of trees. Stop at the store after this hole if you need refreshment or more discs.

13 - Anhyzer shot downhill to the open sewer that runs around the NW corner of this course. There are people who will fish discs out of this hole, but not me.

14 - Long uphill shot. A roller works well here but watch out for crosswinds.

15 - Anhyzer over the creek. I've also seen people go through the woods here but it looks pretty dicey to me.

16 - Ace run. Don't overshoot or you'll wind up in the creek, which at this point has a tall, steep bank.

17 - Air it out here. Wide open except for the pool enclosure to the right and the trees to the left. Make it between these two obstacles (the gap is about 20 yards wide) and you've got a straight shot at the pin.

18 - RHBH best shot is over the corner of the parking lot, which is a really good place to not park your car. The creek at this point is channeled in concrete.

Cons:

The creek that runs along the back nine is an open sewer.

Other Thoughts:

This course is probably on the short side for people who can drive 350-400' or more but for noodle arms like me, it's just right.

Will Rogers - Short and Sweet 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 12, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a moderately short course. It is very skill-oriented. It is a FANTASTIC place to practice the short game, probably at least half the holes have possibilities for aces. It is not overly wooded, and it makes for fast play. I can easily get up to 3 full rounds in by noon. There are online maps, sufficient parking, and lots of friendly people. Concrete tee pads, benches, and trash cans present. It is easy to get a good score, even if you are not a pro. In the summer time, it's easy to finish 18 and go directly to the pool inside the park.

Cons:

Some of the fairways are tight. Some of them practically overlap. It is not uncommon to have someone on another hole in your fairway, especially on the front 9. Signs are present, but unfortunately most of them have been around so long that the paint is worn completely off of them. The online map helps a lot for first-timers. The layout for the front nine is confusing at first. This course can get BUSY. Only good thing about it getting busy at this course is that the holes are short enough to help with wait time if it does back up. There are occaisionally people who seem to leave beer cans laying around.

Other Thoughts:

There is a convenience store across the street from the park that sells discs that's fairly priced. If passing through OKC, this course is not far at ALL from the airport (maybe even doable with a long layover). Fixed the Lat/Long. of the course, the previous coordinates were WAY off.
