Short and Simple Practice Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 3, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This flat and semi-open course inside forest is a small 4 holer good for newcomers and beginners that want to practice in solitude or introducing small groups. This is one of the rare courses where combining holes for something new is easy in both layout and sparse crowd. The park is terrific with multiple fields and plenty of other amenities. Even the toilets were open in late autumn.

If you're stuck choosing Sweetbriar or this, go here.

+Many fields to practice drives.
+Hole combining might be fun and almost obligatory.

Cons:

The fourth Post tee was MIA and you have to guess where it was. The only real letdown is they had ample room to make a 9er happen but it didn't. Traffic in the area is generally bad anywhere near a rush hour.

Other Thoughts:

W/C: In parking lot building, was actually open in autumn when I went.

Starting Point: If you're coming from the 252, choose the first parking lot next to the two basketball courts, 40.070478, -75.450721 on google maps. Take the right hand path next to red-roofed pavilion, and the first tee will about 300' ahead, just after the T-intersection on the grass, at 40.071527, -75.451692.

Layout: Basket #1, Tees #2 & 4 are all within a stone's thow of each other. Tee #3 is a walk in the same general direction #2 went and then a backtracked throw.

Good for what it is 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 22, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I gave the course a "passable" rating because a 4-hole course really can't earn more than that. However, as a location for practicing, this park is pretty awesome. I frequently start on the lacrosse field near the course (but still in the same park), and use it as a space to work on arm strength. Then, I walk over to the course where I can spend time on approach and putts. The holes can be played forward or backwards, and they are used so little you'll most likely have the space all to yourself.

Cons:

As stated, its only 4 holes; so, there is only a tiny bit of "course" to be played.
Stinging thorns in the rough will make some errant throws turn into lost discs, and I find at least one tick after each time I play here.
Kids sometimes play in the space that is supposed to be a fairway, but they usually realize this and disappear once they see what I'm up to.

Other Thoughts:

This is far from a destination course. However, if you're in the area and want to work on your game, it can be an ideal place to practice.

SMALL 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 20, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

its a DG Course, with chains....
there is a great chance you will be alone

Cons:

Its very, very small. If you live close, its a perfect place to practice.

its very small

Other Thoughts:

I wouldn't go out of my way to come to this course, but if you live close, its not a bad place to practice.
There is a huge football field nearby where you can practice your drives.

there is REAL potential here 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 10, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Despite this currently being a rudimentary & unremarkable 4 hole layout, there is plenty of scrubby woodland in the immediate vicinity of existing holes to conceive of a 9 hole course... which in terms of the terrain could become an excellent layout. Perhaps someone or group will adopt that goal. Wilson Farm Park is a tranquil park since Valley Forge (which is within a couple of miles) absorbs a huge proportion of local recreation. The terrain at Wilson is nice enough that a skilled designer could produce a very fine course.

Cons:

Four mostly unremarkable holes... though one reviewer has squeezed 9 holes out of his "safari" layout, which creative effort is really admirable. But in current conditions even the original 4 holes (let alone the safari layout) are a pretty brushy, rough affair. I think the effort might be better spent lobbying local parks a/o pols to invest in course expansion.

Other Thoughts:

Perhaps the trickiest aspect of lobbying for expansion of this course from 4 holes to 9 is that it can't possibly attract many users in its current form --particularly intermediate and experienced players-- it just isn't interesting enough. Therefore it presents a conundrum as far as demonstrating the value and interest in an improved, expanded course.

Short and easy 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 15, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Short, open fairways
- Park has 2 "Sample Discs" for new players to use (when the discs aren't in the trees somewhere)
- Quiet so there aren't many disctractions

Cons:

- Deer are used to humans and just stand there so you can't play through
- Can't see the course from any parking area and there is no map (that I have found) on the property so it can be hard to find the first time
- While faiways are open the foliage around them is very thick and can make it easy to lose a disc (so make sure you have a name on it)
- Almost too easy even for beginners since the fairways are so open and it is so short

Other Thoughts:

I mainly play this on lunch (1 hour including 20 minute round trip) and can get through two rounds working on my shots that I need more help with. Overall, if I had a portable basket I would not even go here unless I felt like finding some discs to return (it's amazing how quickly people give up when large thornbushes are involved)

Unique pitch and putt 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 17, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Perfect to introduce grade school kids to the sport
Good to practice playing with your opposite hand
Very well groomed fairways

Cons:

Only 4 holes
Super short holes

Other Thoughts:

The main adavantage of this course would be if a person had very young children and wanted to introduce them to the sport
If you were at this huge, beautiful park already for an activitiy and wanted to practice some unique throws or playing with your opposite hand, this would be a good place to do that.
Hopefully this course can be expanded...the park looks huge but it looks like it is pretty well mapped out and dominated by other activities.
