Nice little course up North 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 26, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice easy little course. Well maintained (as long as the government isn't trying to close the park). Signs make this easy to navigate. The tunnel-holes through the trees are pretty nice signature holes. There are a few other holes where you really need to throw a laser to par the hole, as hitting an early tree can be devastating.

Cons:

Plain and simple, nothing really interesting or different. It's pretty level, not much elevation. Lots of straight shots, with trees here and there. There are some OB's that arent' clearly defined (halfway up the ditch at certain parts)

Other Thoughts:

This course will be sweet in 5-10 years when young trees "grow up" and make the place more interesting.

Ill go with the crowd on this one 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 23, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beginner friendly course. Signs on each hole.

Cons:

No elevation changes and its a very flat course. The closest place to buy any beverages is in Ransomevilll which is about a town four or five miles over so remember to bring your own. You also play along side the road so if you over shoot to far to the right you may have to take a stroke from the street or like this player had to shoot from someones front lawn.

Other Thoughts:

This course is very straight forward no whistles or bells. Altho slightly deceaving with the difficulty there are some very well placed holes in some thick trees to make for some tougher shots.

Worth the drive 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 1, 2007 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Good signage to help you navigate. Multiple tees for all skill levels. Uncrowded area of the park so you will have the course to yourself and the other discers, i.e. no random people.

Cons:

Wide open for the most part lets the wind get to your disc. Some holes very close to road, very unsafe. Some holes have very little room for your drive to go anywhere.

Other Thoughts:

Still a very enjoyable round on the shores of lake ontario. Not many places to lose discs here.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 21, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Course is about 25 minutes North of Buffalo. Layout is all flat and goes through state park. Entry fee to get in during Summer, but there is an area you can park right outside the park and walk to the first hole easily. Some holes were designed VERY nicely. A good mixture of long and shorter holes. Fun to play and beginner friendly.

Beginner friendly, yet honest 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 28, 2007 Played the course:never

Pros:

This is a beginner friendly course, yet it plays as a reasonably honest par -3, with some 3s much more attainable than others. On most of the holes the only severe hazards come into play if one overshoots a hole, which has little effect on the rookies but could make things interesting for some one who rips away going for a deuce.

Cons:

Only a few holes in the middle of the course forced particular kinds of shots, the rest were so open one could get away with nearly anything. Having route 18 running right next to the course took away from the tranquility.

Other Thoughts:

The openness of the course seemed to encourage me to try out some different kinds of shots, knowing that recovery from a mistake was usually easy. One could view this as good or bad, but as one who is new to the game it helped me build some confidence.

Overall, pretty fun 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 24, 2007 Played the course:never

Pros:

Well maintained, great signs at each hole, 3 tees per hole, scorecards regularly available.

Cons:

Not a lot of variety, the course is entirely flat with most holes play as a straight shot with some trees in the way now and then.

Other Thoughts:

Wilson is a great course for beginners or if you're a more seasoned player, it would be make for a fun round but nothing particularly challenging.

The course is very well maintained but that is probably to be expected since it's a state park. The signs are very descriptive, indicating where each tee is for the hole, where the basket is as well as where the next tee can be found.

Scorecards can be found on the bulletin board area in the first parking lot on the left after you pull into the park. If you don't happen to have cash on hand for the park fee there is also a "secret" parking lot across from the restaurant near the bridge. I noticed quite a few people parking there.

Overall I wouldn't say Wilson is worth taking the long drive to get to but if you make a day of it you can go to Beaver Island State Park and Joseph Davis State Park which are relatively close and the 3 courses should make for a good day of disc golf.
