Okay to play when campus isn't crowded 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 26, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Scenic campus. Well mowed. An okay course for recreational players. Course has decent baskets and according to the course map has dual tees (signs are posted where the short tees are). Evergreen trees are the primary obstacles here and some of the holes force you to go over or under. Some holes with early trouble challenges that can shoot down an errant throw.

Cons:

Right in the middle of campus. If students are walking to class it may be impossible to throw on many of the holes. #7 is the only hole in fact with no space conflict. Holes 1 and 6 are too close to parking lots. (Strangely enough, I was here on a day when classes were in session and it was pretty quiet). Tees are hard to find without a map as they are sometimes pushed up against buildings. Advanced tees have no signs. If hitting buildings or people makes you squeamish, you can't really throw aggressively here.

Other Thoughts:

A noble effort to bring DG here, but this course is just too damned dangerous for me to say much nice about it. Until Great Bend got an 18 hole course at Veteran's Park, this was the only play in town. I've played a few juco college courses before, and was expecting to see this one out on the campus fringes, or around the athletic complex. I was rather surprised to find it weaving between the buildings and crossing sidewalks. Nothing I would go out of my way for, but good if you want to add to your course count or practice approaches. Probably best to play here on a Sunday when class isn't in session, otherwise be careful.
