Short Game 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 5, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a great course to iron out the kinks in your midrange to approach game. Almost every hole is reachable with a good drive, but I have seen expert players put dents in trees. Good chance to focus off the tee and pick your line. Forgiving in the fact that even a short drive can be saved by a good approach shot. If you are a RHBH player, you will need to hook your shots, or learn to throw either overhand or sidearm.
This course can be frustrating because it seems like it should be easy, but it can frustrate someone who knows how to play.

Cons:

It is a short course. It gets very slick and muddy with just a little rain. And, as others have said, it is a popular course. If you ONLY play here, you will not develop your distance game.

Other Thoughts:

I like this course because it teases you. The pins are tantalizingly close, but the Woods of Winton can still swallow your touch shot. Not an All-Star course, but definitely one that is convenient to play, and easy to fit in a casual round.
--> Over this past winter, several trees have been taken down, which changes the way to play those holes. Specifically, #2 is opened up, and #3 the woods have been cut back a ways.

Just a Fun course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 26, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Asphalt tees and asphalt around the baskets.
Very good flow, can't get lost.
Lots of trees and pretty clean underbrush.
Plenty of parking.
Can play a quick round.

Cons:

Short but that's ok.
Too many holes flow to the right how about some going left! I think there is only one.

Other Thoughts:

Great short course, a lot of fun. It is good for beginners and the experienced. I liked the flow, first time had no problem following the course. The more you play this course the more fun it gets. You can try out shots you would never try otherwise. Very low frustration factor!!

Pros:

This course if good for anyone, great beginners course and if you want some practice this place is perfect. All of the holes here are ace potential. Pretty good condition and well kept for a course played as much as this one. There are a few trash cans throughout the course.

Cons:

They have very generous pars, even for beginners. i personally play every hole on the course a par 3.
The tee boxes are alright, it would be nice if they did some work on them. very crowded on the weekends.

Other Thoughts:

Overall I enjoy playing this course, it is a very short but fun place to play, Typically the bigger groups and families will let smaller faster groups play through. They could use a few updates on the tee boxes and signs but other than that it's great. I always try to find the time to play a few times a week and Winton Woods is one of the spots i enjoy playing. Even if you have heard negative feedback from this course you really have to try it out for yourself to see that it has a great fun-factor and maybe get a few aces!

technical and great for the short game 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 16, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great course to improve your short game. You can quickly play a round (If alone, within 30 minutes). Concrete tee pads and hole nos. are marked on the tee pad as well as the basket. Restrooms are close to tee no. 1. Trash cans spread throughout. The holes can be challenging and very interesting. You can explore your short game/discs or master your one mid range. There are some longer tunnel shots to challenge your accuracy from a distance, but most holes challenge your disc selection and form. Can be technical and tight at times. Take a bag full of mids or just grab a couple mids and a putter and run a round.

Cons:

Tee pads are very small. Tee pads are close to the previous basket. No tee signs. I hear there's a lot of traffic here during the "warm season". I can see this course backing up w/ lots of traffic.

Other Thoughts:

While it's a short course, I will not "ding" it for that. These types of course are needed (and this course was built in the 80's when trash can tops were used as discs). I loved playing this course today and wish I had the time to play it a few more time through. I'll certainly be back because I had fun here.

It's not the size that matters.......right? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 4, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

High fun factor
Great for beginners
Very nice Park
Well taken care of
Mowed and trash free
Really Generous Pars

Cons:

Not a Challenge
Short
Crowded
Really Generous Pars

Other Thoughts:

If you would have described this course to me to before I went I probably would have skipped it but I'm glad I went, I had a good time.

I'm not even close to being a great player, I consider myself slightly above average. But I shot a -20 here (way above my normal score) going by the listed pars (which are extremely generous) I even got a deuce on a par 5 which has never happened or I doubt will ever happen again. An advanced player may want to skip this one

However the fun factor here is very high. I'm not sure I can do a good job of explaining why but it's just a fun little park with a lot of really nice well designed holes. You can tell by how crowded it is that people really seem to like it

Bring your girlfriend, your family, or introduce a friend to Disc Golf on this course. It's a great one to learn the game on. And once you gain the skills to out grow this place, move to to some bigger ones. Cincinnati is loaded with great courses.

I would recommend this course for casual players, children or people just starting out. I wouldn't advise it if your looking for a challenge and I wouldn't drive to far to get to this one (I did but I'm not normal)

But it is fun

Pros:

A fun little course that sees a high volume of traffic. It is beginner friendly. Baskets on all 18 holes. The course makes the most of the area it has to work with. Navigation is not too difficult.

Cons:

Not much of a challenge playing this course. It is nice that there are tee pads, but concrete tees would be much better than the asphalt. The concrete around the baskets are a huge con. This makes it easy to nick the discs up. I don't recommend bringing any discs from your bag for that reason.

Other Thoughts:

A fun course in the Cincinnati area. Can play the course in about thirty minutes. A good course to bring a beginner out to.

What else can be said? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 4, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

As a casual player this course is the best in the area. There are enough trees in the way that making a sweet shot can make you feel pretty great but not so difficult that you would get discouraged. Its gently wooded, it has a very open but still enclosed feeling.

Some people have complained that the course is much too short. But playing for fun its easy to set up a tiebreaker match after you play it through or even go for a second or third game.

Hole 12: This is a long and straight shot that parallels a semi-steep hill to the left and the hole way down to the basket is a row of trees right in the center of your way. After playing the course a few times it really gets the fun level up in a game because a bad throw can send your disc rolling pretty far downhill and put the pressure on.

Cons:

It can get pretty crowded in the afternoons and definitely on the weekends. However, that could easily be read as it being worth lots of people coming to.

It's not as technically difficult as some would like it to be. Those that enjoy a challenge should make up their own pars or come here to play more for the fun of it.

Other Thoughts:

I've been playing this course since I was young enough to think that frisbee golf was played with regular "frisbees" and hadn't known we needed something a little stronger. I hit a tree throwing a frisbee as hard as I could and it shattered into many many pieces.

Its worth playing at least once regardless.

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 20, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Location is very good, plenty of things to do in and around this park. Course is old but still good as ever. It is a short course, but it's still cool, some go right, some go left, and if you go left on hole 12, you will pay the price and go down the hill. Plus they still have the puffer spot before hole 12......Don't be alarmed if you are teeing off for hole 12 and people pop up behind you, they will wait, they just got done puffin.

Cons:

Gets very crowded, go early or on a weekday before people get off work.

Other Thoughts:

this place definately is hollowed ground for the locals, come on out, bring the pipe and enjoy!!!!!

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 16, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course is a nice short course. Plenty of ace chances. All holes are deuce-able, which makes good practice for your short game. Almost all holes are through wooded areas. Making for some tight fairways, and trees that force you to make some so technical decisions in the round. Flow is laid out very well, making it easy to move from hole to hole even on the first time playing through. Nice concrete tee pads. Good fun course. Great for casual rounds to play though several times.

Cons:

Over the 7+ years I have been playing the course has lost a lot of trees to being hit repeatedly and dying. Also lots of gravel has been laid down from being played so much which can tear up discs if you use cheaper plastics. Course can be crowded and can be full of hooligans. Baskets get torn up because of the hooligans. The course used to have tee signs on the ground but where replaced with tee signs that no longer have the hole mapped on it.

Cons:

Short. Did I say, "Short?" I meant minirature. You only need a midrange and a putter, or just a putter. The pars for each hole are ridiculous. I think they just picked numbers out of a hat.

-Great place to learn how to take shots through trees.

Cons:

-Too easy for anyone thats not a complete beginner. You can make it harder by playing everything as 3, but its still easy to shoot under.

-Very crowded in the after noon.

Other Thoughts:

This place is still worth playing. Its close to my house so I go here often when I don't feel liking driving too far to play. This place will make you feel like a pro.

Nice place to relax when people aren't breathing down your neck (which is rare).

They host a few glow disc events in the summer. I was at the one on May 24th. They are having one on June 5th, and July 3rd too.. This place is a blast to play in the dark! Much more difficult when you can't see the trees.

Where it all began 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 26, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

If you need to get in a quick round before work, on lunch break, or after work with some friends this is the place. If it isn't crowded you can get in a full round in about 15 mins....yea...literally you can play this entire course in a mild hurry in about 15mins.

The course plays well in the rain. There is enough gravel down and those horrid paved rings under the basket to allow you to play this in a pouring rain and not be too muddy. The course is a Steady Ed course and makes the absolute most out of being so short. Designed back in the day for lids...it can still challenge you in a putter only round with pin placements around trees.

This is the most ideal course on the planet to take a buddy or girlfriend and introduce them to the game of disc golf without them feeling blown away by the course.

Cons:

This course is VERY popular and on weekends you will get to the course and see 8-10 person groups, 3 deep....on every hole. The baskets are old but not near as bad as some older parks. There are only two holes where you can rip a mid range...the rest of the time you are putter, putter, putter.

Recently the parks decided that honeysuckle wasn't an indigenous plant and almost murdered the course in its removal. The course went from challenging to almost wide open over night. There are still many well placed trees but it got very easy...which was a hit with the beginner crowd..

The tiny asphalt teepads that buckle in some places are dangerous if you do an xstep and drag your feet. The asphalt rings around the bottom of the baskets can cause a great shot to skip way past the basket.

The crowds can get overwhelming at times and you may have newbies throwing in on you because they didn't see you, they didn't think they could get that Boss out that 165 feet to the pin and 'got a hold of one'. Some teepads are really close to the previous pin and you must watch where the disc is coming from.

Other Thoughts:

For many in the Cincinnati area...this is where it all began. Most here played for their first time at Winton Woods and judge all their development according to their rounds at Winton Woods. As they progress they go back and play a round at Winton and see how they are coming along.

I know several people that will get beat up in a tournament and travel back to Winton Woods and play a few rounds to get back into their 'Happy Place'. It is said by many...this is hollowed ground.

Reviewed: Played on:May 12, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course is very quick and easy. It is great to learn how to play on, or to take someone that has never played before. You can spend 2 hours here and play 3 or more times. There is a small variety in the holes...on some holes you get a straight shot to the basket, and on others you will have to work your way around a bunch of trees to get it in.

Cons:

This course is really popular due to the facts that it is the midde of everything, and that it's so easy to play, so the traffic here can get ridiculous at times. This course is not very challeging if you have been playing for longer than a month.

Other Thoughts:

This was the first course I ever played, so i'll always love it. I've played it hundreds of times, and will probably play it hundreds more.

Extremely Short and Tight 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 28, 2006 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course is located in a nice, secluded area. There is traffic outside the park, but the park itself is rather quiet. The fairways are mature. A round can be played here very quickly. Tee pads and baskets were in fair condition.

Cons:

This course is just too short to be considered a challenge. Sometimes there are short courses that offer some technical shots and cause you to shape your shots. I didn't even get that from this course. As has been stated by others, this is "ace run heaven". You could honestly play this course with only a Roc/Buzz/Kite/Impact/(midrange of your choice) and shoot well below 50....quite possibly below 40.

Other Thoughts:

It is what it is. An older, shorter course. When whamos were the disc, this would have been a great place to play. However, this course is unable to adapt with the times as there is not a lot of real estate to work with. You should not even have to pull out a fairway driver on this course. Mids all the way. It is not a challenge. But if you just want a quick 45 minute round and you are nearby, give it a shot. You might end up with an ace...or two or three.
