A True Challenge 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 30, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Elevation Changes
Skill Shots
Water Hazards

Cons:

Lot's of Teenagers Have Taken Over
Drunken Doubles
Muddy Boxes

Other Thoughts:

This was the best course in town for a long time, and is still one of my favorites, but the crowds have made this course one to avoid on most beautiful weekends. Best time to play is during extreme weather conditions. Better than waiting for a dozen teens to throw their one disc.

Sweetness 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 18, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Good course with just about every single shot that you can think of. You get to try out your technical game in the woods where you better hit your lines or you can get in trouble quickly. Then you go out in the open and really get to let loose. The elevation is used well here which is always a plus near D/FW. Ths course doesnt favor one type a player except the consistant one. There are extra tees that keeps the course from getting boring and opens up many different shots. The baskets are in good shape as well. This is not a regular par 54 course to where you just throw with no regard of where your disc lands, there are many placement holes where you must think about your shot and then execute it and sometimes execute it just to have a good next shot. This course will test your mental game along with your phyical conditioning.

Cons:

Can get hot and it is a long walk. No signs can be a pain in the butt sometimes. Navigation can get hard but if you take your time to look around you should be good to go. This course can get crowded quickly. There is lots of trash scattered round as well.

Other Thoughts:

This course along with many other courses in the area make fo a great road trip and a change to other courses in the area. Bring lot of drinks because it can get very hot and rounds can get long due to traffic. Enjoy this great course and have fun playing one of the best!

challenging 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 7, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Multiple tees on most holes give options to players. terrain is veried with open, wooded, and some holes playing across and around a creek. Some elevation changes also. #9 plays off a cliff over the tops of the trees.

Cons:

No facilities of any kind there, not even a port-a-potty. navigation could definitely be an issue if you don't have a guide.

Other Thoughts:

Great course to play and very challenging. there are several pin positions so you have to look for the pin each time you play. Course is very popular and gets crowded at times. with a few changes and additions this could be a fantastic course. I would say it is not very beginner friendly. geared more to the experienced, advanced player.

Awesome! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 12, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Where to begin on this one! The challenge is top notch! The scenery on the holes is certainly enjoyable, especially the large trees creating tunnel shots. Hole two goes straight up a cliff! Each hole is distinctly different from the next. It will challenge all aspects of your game, short/long, accuracy and long drives. Small creek comes into play on a few courses. Baskets are used, but in great shape.

Cons:

Only two things worth mentioning. The course had a good deal of trash on it. There were some navigation issues, but nothing that can't be figured out easily. More signs would be helpful.

Other Thoughts:

The best course that I have played in the area! If there were signs on all the holes and the trash was picked up, I would rate higher. All in all, a fantastic course! If I lived in the immediate area, I would play this course all the time. Definately worth a long drive to get to. The best in the area!

Pros:

Nice Blind Throw on 9 over tops of trees.
Lots of water and green trees. Just after the rain this week. Not much mud and not very humid either.
Very fun.

Cons:

Horses ride here wait what? It's not mud I swear!

Other Thoughts:

Just remember to pick up trash and don't leave any either.

Z-Boaz awesom 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 25, 2006 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Top notch course.

Cons:

Can be very crowded.

Other Thoughts:

Haven't been here in years; I just wanted to give this a four star rating and say I liked the course. Once a review is up; it stays up. I've changed my review three times now; and still getting the Texas thumbs down love. I've played a ton of courses and still consider this to be a very good one. I don't give 4 ratings willy nilly. I know, you're saying, well why doesn't he have more to say about it? You go play four courses a day on 40+ road trips; big and small; over a nearly 20 years span; and see if every once in a while; you have a hard time remembering specifics about some courses; other than that was a very good one, that mostly kicked my butt.

Definately one of my new favorites!!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 20, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great mix of long, open shots with highly technical short shots! Awesome and diverse elevation changes! Good concrete tee pads.

Cons:

The only thing I can say I really didn't like about this course is its lack of signage... I played with a guy who had played before so it wasn't a huge issue but I could see how a first timer to the course would have a hard time getting around.

Other Thoughts:

This is a course I will play again, SOON! I had a lot of fun here and was very challenged.

Awesome course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 28, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course is a challenging course that rewards well placed throws. The teepads are concrete and in good condition. The baskets are good. The course requires a lot of different kinds of shots, from long, hard backhands to short sidearms, and from big bombs high accuracy required shots and everything in between.
Hole 2 is a difficult shot up a rocky hill with a small tree smack dab in front of the tee box. Hole 4 is a long downhill shot that lets you throw a long way and still come up short of the basket. Hole 6 has you shoot across a field to a basket on top of another rocky hill guarded by small trees all around. Hole 7 is much the same. Hole 9 is the most notorious hole there. It is a blind heizer shot from atop about a 40 ft hill over the tree tops to the field below. You might want eyes at the bottom for hole 9. 10 and 12 are long throws across large fields. 11 and 13 are technical throws in the trees, as are holes 14 and 15 except with a creek that comes into play (dry in the heart of summer though). 16 has a huge area of dense trees to the left of the fairway where many a disc has dissapeared. 17 is a shot through a clear fairway into a hole surround by trees and a creek behind. 18 is the grand finale across the creek while finding through a maze of small trees.
This course is very challenging from the long tees and especially when the baskets are in the long pin positions. Throw in some wind and you've got your work cut out for you. The tee boxes have brand new signs put up now and there are trash cans spread throughout the course. Water comes into play on a few holes, but you can easily get your disc back from it.

Cons:

This course is pretty crowded in the evenings and on weekends. Play in the morning if possible.
You have to keep an eye on your discs here as I have heard numerous stories of people getting their disc jacked after throwing a blind hole (like hole 9 for example)

Other Thoughts:

This course has variety and is challenging, but forgiving. I'd play here more often if it weren't always so crowded and just a little bit closer to home.

Very tough course

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 28, 2022 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-- This is a very challenging course that requires every shot in your bag.
-- There are multiple tees and basket positions for almost every hole. While some of the added/long tees just add 20-30 feet on the same line, a few stand out for added distance or difficulty. No. 1 long adds about 125 feet with a 10-12 foot wide tunnel to reach the short tee. No. 17 is similar, but the difference in distance is closer to 80 feet.
-- Water (or at least a dry creek bed at some points in the summer) comes into play on a several holes, and there are massive elevation changes.
-- This is not a multi-use park, so you seldom have to worry about people on the course who are not golfers. There is a practice basket near the parking lot. It is rusty and has seen better day, but it is still serviceable.
-- Port-o-potties at parking lot.

Cons:

-- From a lot of tees (Nos. 1 sometimes 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 16 and sometimes 17), you can't see the basket, so you either guess on the position or walk ahead to look. Some of this can be mitigated by looking as you play earlier holes or walk to that tee.
--Two holes (Nos. 2 and 4) are nearly impossible to par (3) for the average golfer in the short position. However, No. 4 lets you throw a 700-foot downhill shot in the long basket position.
-- There are some long walks (1-2, 6-7, 17-18), and navigation can be an issue. The map on this site helps some, but it is 9 years old and no longer accurate. There is a hole between 6 and 7, and long tee pads on many holes are not on the map. There are no navigational aides on the course.

Other Thoughts:

-- Hole 9 (your 10th hole) is the signature hole and has you throwing from the top of a giant hill over trees that are taller than the hill you are throwing from. It's a cool shot, but for guys without big arms (that includes me), this can be a frustrating throw. Especially when playing solo, I have spent a lot of time looking for my disc on this hole. If you are playing with someone, I recommend spotting for each other from the bottom of the hill.
-- Changes many years ago eliminated two throws across the creek, including my favorite hole, No. 16. This was done because the creek crossings were difficult, but those changes did not improve the course. Recent changes, however, have added something. Holes 11 and 12 now have a third basket position, and the new one on No. 11 has a nice brick façade. The short tee pad for 12 was recently upgraded with a brick faced to help prevent erosion. Underbrush in the trees on the left side of the No. 13 fairway as you approach the basket has been cleared. The trees are still an obstacle, but you are are not in jail if you end up there. Someone (or some people) have obviously put in some work here.
-- I have avoided Z-Boaz (the second closest course to my house) over the past few years because it had gotten SO crowded. However, when I played on a Monday afternoon a couple of years ago, it was not crowded. Same was true on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022. On two weekday mornings in 2019, the course was practically empty at 8 a.m., but the parking lot was half full by 10 a.m.
-- The individual holes here are MUCH better than the course overall. You've got massive elevation changes, water in play, LONG holes, technical shots through the woods. However, the course has few of the amenities of newer/nicer courses. There is no water fountain, no course map on site (and the one here is 9 years old and no longer accurate), very basic tee signs (many are missing) and extremely difficulty creek crossings (impossible at times because of high water). The climb up to the 8 tee and down from the 9 tee is rocky and arduous. If you have any mobility issues, this course is not for you. There is a nice covered board near the No. 1 tee (great place for a course map), but there is nothing on the board.

It has it all 2+ years drive by

Pros:

This course has it all and will challenge everyone who plays it. Bring your short and long game. The Z-Boaz DGers take pride in this course and it shows. There are benches at just about every teepad.

Cons:

There are no teepad signs.

Other Thoughts:

This is one of my favorite courses right now.
