[Discraft] Discraft Zepplin (2011 Ace Race)

Ever since I switched to Rocs, I can not throw a Buzzz without it flipping. I still keep it in the bag for skips and really big, wide hyzers though. More of a utility disc when compared to the Roc IMO.

The Roc is more overstable for sure than a Buzzz. Just take a bit off The Buzzz and watch it Buzzz on by. ;)

Same thing with the Zep...you don't need to over power the disc.

Most of it is what you like anyways and what feels good. I started out with Buzzz's and the switched to BEAT!! Roc, then back to the Buzzz. I just don't like the bead on the Roc. Also prefer the MD2 to the Roc. The Buzzz is the best...you can make more shots with it than a Roc.

But back to the Zep. I think it is a great disc, and feel that it great for approach shots.

I don't like the Zep in the wind. Just throwing it at targets in the front yard the other day, I could tell it wouldn't do well in a strong wind. Gust blew mine about six feet off course from about 30 feet away -- not a good thing for a putter.

I can see me using it for certain shots in some situations, but I don't see it becoming my go-to putter or approach any time soon.

I've been surprised how many times I've hit basket on ESP Zeppelin approaches. A 100ft birdie and a few other long near birdies are keeping it in my bag, despite it taking up so much room. I put a smaller disc inside it.

One shot I've been surprised about is its short overhand capabilities. It flips upside down and holds. One of my metal hits during the ace race was with this throw on a really narrow mando. On a couple of throws in recent weeks it has landed on its top and slid right up to the basket.

The brilliance of ace-race prototypes.... force everyone to use it. Expect those to have memorable aces or metal hits to buy a few after production. Lather/rinse/repeat.

I didn't like this disc for the Ace Race...more of a catch disc than a golf disc. With that, I really did like the way it flew as a putter. It will not replace my current putter; however, if I was to switch - this disc would warrant consideration.

I don't understand the hate for this disc. If you like the aero or mako (or at least think they don't suck) then you shouldn't hate this disc. I don't have a place for it in my bag, but it does what it's supposed to well. It's like a comet in putter form. Of course you're not going to throw it in a wind. It's not that type of disc.

With that said, after watching my local ace race and hearing people there hate on it, I came to one big conclusion. A lot of those who hate this disc hate it because their form flaws make it react poorly. If it turns and burns on you in normal conditions, it's you, not the disc.

exactly.

after my local ace race, we played a casual round on the short/short layout which is a technical pitch and putt - ~3600', SSA is 41-42. An older non-local guy who has thrown lids for years played with ONLY the pro D ace race disc, which he had never thrown before that day. And he shot a friggin' 39 with it. If you have clean form, it does whatever you want.

If you don't like throwing it, just man up and say 'I suck at throwing this disc' and be done with it.

I love this disc, personally. Near the end of the summer I was having some issues with my in-the-circle putting. I was just getting yippy and would sail putts by the basket and get so frustrated. So I switched from my 169g star aviar to the 183g ESP (which, mine is quite FLX-y) ace race Putter and the weight and size really kept my wrist and hand calm. It's a good disc and a lot of people are going to find it useful.

I loved it when I had it out on the practice field before my ace race this year. I didn't end up playing in the ace race though and because of its physical size I haven't found a spot in my bag for it to give it a proper tryout.

I'm tinkering with the bag a bit in that utility areas right now though and will definitely give it a proper tryout for for the slot. I like the idea of keeping a smaller disc inside it. I wonder if my ultralight polecat would fit in it?

I just keep it in the putter pocket of my fade tourney bag. Works out well since I usually grab it right after putting my magic in front of it.

Zeppelin is the perfect name...

Flies slow and cumbersome...

Is useless in the wind...

Will eventually explode then crash & burn your score...

I love this disc and am stoked that it will be able to be in my bag for my next tournament in a couple weeks. Between that, putting practice, and my HyzerBomb gear I expect to play extremely better than I did this past weekend. I'm looking forward to playing more like an Open player than intermediate.

I think the name is pretty good. It's big and floaty, zeppelins are big and floaty.

Exactly, I think Zeppelin is a great description of this discs' flight.

Also - if you think this disc "sucks" you either a) have bad form or b) have a very limited shot repitoire.

This is a finesse disc. Snap it on a hyzer or push it flat. This disc is definitely in my bag for understable shots in the 100-275' range.
