Best disc golf city in the country?

winning.

The city with the best average course IMO is Des Moines.........Pickard, Ewing, Big Creek, Pickard, Grandview, and another one that is pretty awesome near Big Creek.

So 6 courses I would LOVE to play at a large event......and I'm sure there are 1-2 more now.

you should consider applying to Drake University. . .Des Moines is really boring though, I visited the school in 2000

You counted Pickard twice, and the one by Big Creek is Walnut Ridge. But yeah, pretty solid lineup.

I believe their Spring tournament is one round each at Pickard, Ewing, Walnut, and Big Creek. (You're wasting time to play them in a tourney instead of on your own -- but to each his own.)

I am sure this has been mentioned already but Augusta Georgia has seven courses in the city with the 3 IDGC courses only 20 miles away (plus a couple others even closer).

I have not played this area yet but hopefully I will soon. Between the Hippodrome and IDGC you have 7 pretty good courses.

this ^^

just like charlotte has a high number of great courses and even more private ones!!!

I spent 26 years in the north east. You can survive the winter outside, but it is not fun 3-4 months of the year. South + West definitely have an advantage when spring comes in mid March and Fall starts in Early November...grilling in a t-shirt for new years! Then a round of DG without mittens ++++

If you are considering best DG areas 1 attribute has to be the level of disc golf you can play year round.

Another reason that Dallas-Ft. Worth is a strong contender. It is easier for me to play in January here than it is in July, but you can def. play all year long here.

Playing all year in Minnesota and the same courses look and play different seasonally for more variety and broadening your skills.

I'd rather play at -10 than 100+ degrees. MO's season is September-April IMO. Just about died at the Mid-Am.

You act like Missouri hasn't been stupid hot this year.....for the most part the weather here has been lower than normal and not as bad as much of the Midwest. So basically you have really HOTT and really COLD.....I will take ONE please!.....the Hot...although given the option only cold would be great.....just hard to find this year.

I spent plenty of time in STL during the summer and have played the Mid America Open 3 times.

So DFW > ATX?

That would be an interesting thread/discussion in itself.

Big changes since our last post:
- Dallas was at 10 courses 3.75+. They dropped to 8.
- Minneapolis increased to 8 at 3.75+ to tie Dallas.
- Austin lost Circle R Meadow and Hill, dropping to 3 at 4.0+ and 6 at 3.75+.
- Denver jumped from 4 courses at 4.0+ to take the lead with 6 courses at 4.0+.
- Newcomer Augusta Maine ties Denver with 6 courses at 4.0+.
- Minneapolis increased to 53 courses in the DGCR 25-mile search, staying ahead of Charlotte who increased to 47.

With 6 courses at 4.0+ and 7 at 3.75+, I think a case can be made for Augusta ME as the best overall location. Discuss.

Notes:
- 5 reviews required for 3.75+ and 4.0+ categories.
- 0 reviews required for total courses.
- I have previously checked several ZIP codes in each metro to find the one with the best numbers. I didn't do that this time -- I just stayed with the same ZIP. If you can find a better ZIP for your metro, let me know.
- Shut up with your private courses. If it's not listed on DGCR, it doesn't count for this thread.
- I know the DGCR 25-mile search covers more than 25 miles. I don't care to check exactly how many fall within 25.0 miles, as it's just not that important.

my votes is ann arbor..they are improving on an already amazing course at independance lake. They have 2 sweet courses at hudson mills that are right across the parking lot from each other..and independance lake is 6 minutes away..along with another sweet 9 holer 6 minutes in the other direction.plus all the other good courses close by..its great disc golf packed in a small radius..love it

I don't know any area like I know the Cincinnati/Northern Ky/Dayton OH area, so I can't say how I would vote, if there was a poll.

Assuming that chart grodney posted is accurate enough for discussion, I am amazed Cincinnati is so far down the list. To me that means there are a lot of great areas in this country for disc golf, because we have it made around here with all the great/good and courses worth playing we have to choose from.
