Why do people NOT know the rules?

There was a situation at an event this weekend where a player crossed an OB path into another area of grass running behing the hole. Now, there is absolutely no reason that it should be IB, but it was just the walking path listed as OB.

The player gets ready to throw his shot and the group says "hey you are OB." the player then says "no, its just the path." The group says "no, its path and beyond."

The player knew he was IB so said "I'll just play a provisional."

Here is where it get's good.

"You can't play a provisional"

Um.....

Seriously I'm so tired of all the phantom rules our sport has and people who think they know the rules that don't. Read a rule book. It takes like 20 min.

And almost every rules problem I see during rounds has one thing in common, no one has a rule book on them. Someone called a bogus rule on me a few months ago so I whipped my rule book out and asked them to show me the rule they were claiming I broke. If you don't read the rule book, at least have one with you!

There are people who know the rules, but worse are the people who make rules up as they go.

Yesterday we told a guy in our group (casual round) that Turbo putts were illegal just to mess with him :D, he figured it out quickly, but he then did not believe us when we told him wedges don't count.

I told a guy that I'd like to take my OB shot from my previous spot. He told me that I had to take it from where it went OB. I think I told him I'd play a provisional, then didn't.

Does anyone know where I can get a waterproof rule-book?

Sandwich bag has worked for me. Just replace it every now and then.

I would like to read one. I ordered one from PDGA about month ago. They never sent one to me and it still says they are processing it. Dam how long does that take.:wall:

Lol, no i'm not. I said rule nazis annoy me to the thread creator, then denny came in on me.

I know the rules, again, not the point. I'd much rather play a casual game with rick then a tournament game with kevin.

I'm so sorry that bothers you two. I hope we can work it out.
