[Innova] Star Beast or Champ Beast

Just wondering which plastic is the best for the disc. Borrowed my dad's champ which has been worn in and I can throw it really well. I'm wanting to get one for myself and just wondering what opinions are on the plastics for a Beast are. Thanks!

I prefer Champ...but really its up to you. Get what you like other discs in as well.

Just wondering about the stability. I've found champs start out more overstable then the numbers sometimes say, and was curious if the star are less likely to have that feature.

The same is true with Champ Beasts vs Star Beasts. The Star is longer and easier to flip when new and the Champ breaks in to be a little less stable than a fresh Star. Some more recent runs of Champ have been more stable, but not overstable. They make great accurate distance drivers and can handle mild winds.

You will get more use out of the Champ through its life than the Star, but both discs have their purpose. A good idea would be to get a Star and learn it for a few weeks. If you like it get a a Champ too. A broken in Star and newer Champ Beast can cover a lot of distance lines.

To my knowledge, there still has not been a production run of the original mold beast in star plastic. I have the only one that I know to exist and it came from DD's collection, came around the same time as the SB Tulsa Orcs.

Its about the same at first, Star will be a little softer and wear in nicely (sooner than champ) Champion is usually stable at first and takes a long time to work in. I like Stars for most drivers, I have a Star Beast and it feels great after several years of use, has more turn now of course but a great disc. I'd say start with Star and if you want a firmer more stable/overstable flight get a champ

Interesting, so the Star Beasts that we're seeing at stores are still the interim mold? I know there are GStar Beasts of the original mold. Can you comment on those?

The GStar Beasts were actually the first plastic released when they brought the old mold back. All of the star beasts that I have seen, aside from the one, are all the "L" mold. The old mold Beasts are now being sold as "Beast X".

They're sold as in stamped? Curious because I have two Champion Beasts that are original mold but not stamped or inked as "Beast-X."

The newest are being stamped "Beast X", however it did take them a little while to start doing that, so there are definitely some newer "X" molds out there without the X stamp. Any that are currently being produced though should have the "Beast X" stamp on them.

Anyone who is considering getting a Beast, get the X mold. Its light years better than the L. The Beast L mold isn't totally useless, but I find it clunky/slow and hard to carve lines with. The X mold seems a little flatter and more responsive.

Its not an overly hard mold to throw. The Beast X is an S curve bomber for a speed 10 disc.
I have a couple G* Beasts and they're both Ls. Every star Beast I've ever seen is an L as well. I have seen a few recent champion Beast Xs though.

I base my opinion of the Beast on what I threw like 15 years ago. Champion Beast Xs that were pure money. The L mold is an abomination and I hated it immediately when it came out.

Lots of interesting stuff said here. I find that none of the Beast threads here really agree on what the Beasts are being stamped with. Looking at what I see around me and on sites like Infinite, I'm lead to believe that Beasts are no longer stamped with the "x" but are just labeled as "Beast." Gonna say it's Innova being Innova.

I wouldn't say the Beast-L was bad. I quite enjoyed them and find they become perfect rollers. For woods golf I think they're actually the better of the two. Oh well, best is to check to profile when buying.

The best thing to do is learn which rim is X and which is L. I had a shop owner show me the difference, and it's good information to know.

Also, some may prefer the Beast-X, but the Beast-L is not a bad disc at all. And all this confusion over names and old and new, etc., is unfortunate, because the Beast is a good disc in either mold configuration.

I think in the hand they feel like 2 different discs. The rim on the Beast L is convex and clunky. To me the Beast L always seemed to fly slower than the Beast X.

I felt like I could carve precise S curve lines with a Beast X. The Beast L just likes to lazily glide along and turn over and not come back very well.

i meant buy a champ and star..cuz both will feel the same, but fly different (famous innova consistently inconsistent)

beast x was a great mold. i remember how upset i was when they changed it to l which was like a roadrunner.

i found a 8/10 dx beast x this past summer and it would bomb. some turn some fade.

I agree with the Beast-L flying slower and having a gliding turnover. It really creeps gently from left to right on a RHBH and barely comes back any unless given height.

However, most people I know prefer the Beast-L for carving through fairways. I could never tell the difference between the two by handfeel alone.
