Interview with Vibram's Steven Dodge

Why bother with the Players Cup when the USDGC is clearly the greatest tourney?

Is it true you can throw the proto Vibram driver over 400'? Because I've seen your lazy stand still throw and you can barely get a Trak out there 300'.

Why are the DGA guys so cool and supportive of the Players Cup Pickem Bracket? Can we really win prizes without putting anything up?Seriously though, why even bother trying to make rubber discs?

Should we all stop playing disc golf and take up a real sport that is on ESPN? Maybe cup stacking?

Is your bag really all Vibram? What did you throw before Vibram discs?

Do you like not working together with Innova or not working together with Discraft better?

Romney or Obama?

Has a final name for the distance driver been decided on?

If so what is it? If not, what are some names that have been tossed around?

Way to go Steven!!!!!

I like your style steve. I hope you answer all those questions whether or not you are asked them. Since you seem to be into politics, you should understand the art of giving a response to a different question than the one you were asked.

Since Vibram has dipped into the disc market place and has had some success and realized that there is a market, are there planes to develop what you truly do best, a disc golf specific shoe?

I like the idea of a vibram shoe specifically for disc golf!!

The obvious question about when the new distance drivers will be available.

Any plans for other fairway drivers : less stable than trak and more stable than ascent?

Does Steve have anything to do with the shoe side of things, or any products other than disc golf? I have to say the Merrells I have are the first shoes I've owned where the soles outlasted the uppers, and I never got a Mesquite thorn up through them into my foot like with those toylike plastic soles that competitors are peddling. I'd like more options though, especially wider widths. Does Vibram make soles for other shoe companies that have products suitable for playing disc golf?

I don't see disc golf products linked from the Vibram website. That makes me wonder what other Vibram products are out there. Can I get Vibram tires for my car or motorcycle? What about a boat prop? The metal ones don't handle impact very well. Even a small bump with a rock puts them permanently out of balance, requiring costly replacement. Seems like rubber props might be a good idea. Anything else?

When will vibram disc golf be featured on the vibram corporate website? Seems very strange there is no reference to it at all under sports.

HAHA! good stuff. i look forward to the interview.

Awesome, so pumped that Steve is gonna be on the show!

Anyways, some questions that come to mind:

-The old standard: What's in your bag and why?

-What is the expected release date for the new distance driver? Did the first proto's being massively understable push back the time table on release? Exactly what does Vibram want the new distance driver to turn out to be? (I've heard destroyer like, but want Steve's full thoughts)

-What's next for Vibram discs? Steve is pretty close-lipped normally, but anything would be great. Specifically, are we going to get an extremely overstable fairway driver to deal with headwinds? The Ubex (massively understable Ibex)? More distance drivers?

-Do you believe that a player can now carry an all Vibram bag and not have any shots that are not covered? What gaps, if any, would an all Vibram bag have?

-How is X-link fusion coming? Specifically, any chance for a firm disc covered in the soft compound?

-Is there any chance of there ever being a Vibram disc golf bag? It seems like a rubber bag made by Vibram would probably end up being the most durable bag on the market.

-How exactly did Steve get his job with Vibram? Are they hiring? (The second part of that question isn't serious, just wishful thinking)

-Does Steve have any advice for anyone who wants to find a career related to disc golf?

-How did Vibram come up with their flight rating system? It's not perfect, but I think it is a lot better than Innova or Discraft's systems.

-What does the current Vibram line up compare to as far as other popular manufacturer's discs? (Innova, Discraft, etc... I feel like I already know but for any listeners who haven't thrown Vibram, this might encourage them to try out some Vibrams)
