New California courses update thread

Sounds awesome Peter! Where abouts is China Peak?

Right on Huntington Lake, about an 1.5 hours east of fresno, set at 7000 feet in the sierra. It takes about 4 hours to get there from the bay area.

The states almost 800 miles long, split it evenly and I will be surprised. Seems like NorCal wants half the state.

We had our first meeting about the new Ventura course last night. The city is evicting homeless camps that there illegally. The legal camp will stay. The intention is that disc golf will dissuade people from moving back that shouldn't be there. Apparently some of the illegal groups are causing a lot of problems at nearby businesses. The land runs adjacent to a ball golf course and there are a few holes that people don't play any more due to aggressive behavior.

China peak is definitely happening. Anchors ready to go in this week. Baskets as soon as they're done. Looking like next weekend will be the beginning of a new standard in alpine courses: 27 holes, par in the 90's!

I'm really excited about this, I'm going to try to get there when I go through Fresno in July. I love mountain golf, can't wait to get up there and check it out.

I know you just moved out here, and it is pretty warm in Temecula. But be prepared for disgusting heat in Fresno in July. Just ugly.

Trust me, I know how miserable Fresno is (in July or otherwise). I'm just passing through on the way to Yosemite but I'll hopefully have enough time to make a side trip.

I grew up in LA and San Diego, so I'm well aware of what Fresno is like in July. That's why I'm excited that there's mountain golf instead of playing something down in the valley. :p

Gotcha. I didn't know you were originally from the area. I am glad you know the misery that is the Central Valley. :p Yosemite is the best, though (right behind Tahoe).

I've spent the last 22 thanksgivings in the valley, and dozens of long summer weekends either in the backcountry or camping in Tuolumne or the valley. The sierras are my absolute favorite place to be.

(I grew up out here, went to the midwest for college, followed a girl (who I'm marrying in December) up to Chicago for a few years and finally convinced her to move back out here with me. :))

Time to build a course on mammoth mtn!

Put in a few hundred holes, play all over the mountain, and have a bunch of shots where you can ride one of the lifts up and have a huge downhill shot afterward. I'll pay a bunch of money to come hang out and play for a few days.:p

That's essentially the idea at china peak. Ride the lift up, play downhill pretty much the entire 27 holes. Ross tells me that are a few holes between 700-1000 ft that by all means should play as par 3s!
