Pay for returned disc?

When I go into the green mud swamp for discs I always leave the inked ones there because I know they will be back to find it later and I don't steal. I always put my number on the ones that aren't inked so that after I sell them and they are lost again , they will be returned to me.

I've never ran in to someone who has found my disc and was throwing it. I wish I have, cause I've lost a few discs that I loved and have never gotten calls. Even though it's almost impossible for someone to have not found it, cause people wade through the water here all the time as its only about 3 feet deep, but its wide. So if it ends up right in the middle it's difficult to see. Anyway, if someone DOES call me back, I throw em a couple bucks cause they could of easily takin it to PIAS and gotten $2 or $3 by selling it, depending on if it's a DX/Pro or Champ/Star. Agree with every one else.. I would of not given that guy a nickle.. let alone $5. Sounds like a giant doucher.

wow what a scheister honestly i probably would have ripped it out of his hands and walked off! this one part of the sport growing that bothers the hell out of me too many d-bags who dont return discs, years back i always got my lost plastic back now its a different story!! imo you were far too nice which isnt a bad thing but d-bags need to learn somehow hell i probably would have started emptying his bag and calling phone numbers cuz if he was that way about yours he probably has others discs also!!!!! and if he had a problem with that hed probably be getting a shiner!!!!!

Who knows how long the guy had your disc. Was it long? I'm looking at this from all sides. That guy could have found it, called but you didn't answer and now it's his favorite disc. Meanwhile you didn't try hard enough to find it, and once you leave the course, you have given up on finding that disc and abandoned it. public park, a fifteen dollar piece of plastic that is probably already replaced. There's no reason to take it from him if it wasn't stolen from your bag or from the hole you are playing. I have found a few discs. No names but I didn't use that mold so people I join rounds with will tell me they like that disc or their friend throws those, then I'll let them have it because I'm notgonna use it. i've boughtdiscs with ink from local homeless just to get them back to the owner, and I just ask that they pay what I had to pay the transient. If the guy looked down on his luck, and you took his disc away from him, that sounds kinda messed up, regardless that it use to be yours. But I don't know your whole story.

If the guy bought it instead of finding it he would know it was a scam. I don't have any discs in my bag and the chances of someone randomly guessing it was found is pretty slim.

Agreed on the guy being an ass. I have no problem with someone keeping an inked disc. I find enough unmarked discs and to me it all evens out in the end, but to ask someone for something when you know it was theirs is just being a baby. I think anyone, myself included, would expect it back if it randomly found its way back to them like that. Kind of a cool karma sort of thing. That guy has some bad juju coming his way lol.

I hear about this sort of thing more and more lately. He should have been embarrased for being caught with your disc. I think I might have waited for him to teeoff, walk over to his disc. Pick it up, put it in my bag and say, Thanks! I'll give you a tip allright- Don't be a Dbag. Hows that feel? If you want it back you can try and take it from me. I just find this to be completly unacceptable behavior. If your name is not on it-- your loss. If it's inked- you can leave it or make an attempt to call. Someone who plays DG should know this. Having the stones to ask for a replacement and or money! You must be kidding me.

Usually in this situation I tell them that if they had bothered to contact me, I would have gladly given them a disc or money in return. But since they did not, they get nothing. Otherwise they will never learn to call a number on a disc.

Yeah, this is the kind of post that I was talking about. If it's inked and in somebody else's bag after another player lost it, then it's theft of lost property (and just about every state has a similar law on the books):

Theft of property lost, mislaid, or delivered by mistake.

No two ways about it. The moral of the story here (as has been noted several others) is don't be a douche and return inked discs.

As someone else noted, I feel like there are fewer people taking the time to call, which may be directly correlative to the growth in my area and the number of new/one discers around now. I have mixed feelings of rage and resignation, because once I've left it, I've left it. But a call would be nice. I call all I find, leave a message and throw the disc in my trunk. After a few weeks, and showing it to a couple of other guys to see if they know the name, it becomes mine. If I ever run into the guy in person, I'd return it to him with no hesitation. Of course, I wouldn't expect or tolerate him getting assy with me over it, either, because I called.

Pretty simple case of right and wrong. This is not rocket science, do the right thing. If it is inked, make the attempt. If you are then caught by the owner, give it back. There are no grey areas here. Billy Ray Valentine told us poor is no excuse to be a thief.

Called a guy today on a Star SL....He sounded happy with the call, and said just keep the disc, that he didn't throw it much....Anyway, clear conscience, and both of us walked away in a good mood. Not making the call can just lead to potentially sticky situations along with just being jerkish...

This being my first year discing, I have been a "disc hunter". My friends call me "bloodhound" cause I swear I can smell a disc lying out on a course. I have found 38 discs now, only 7 with ink. Twice while throwing and asking players around me if they know the person, I have found a friend of the disc owner. Both times I was rewarded with $5. One owner of another disc moved away since losing it, and wants it back. I have been unemployed so I can't afford to ship it, and he's never offered to pay, so it sits here collecting dust. One other owner told me to keep the disc since it had been replaced. But, the other 3 discs have been returned with not even as much as a thank you from the owners. One was even a special edition tourney disc.
If some fellow discer calls me with news of locating one of my lost discs, I would definitely, atleast thank them, and if possible, flip em a $5 bill! Of course, I have only lost one, my favorite ever, but doubt it will ever be found (6' tall grass and swamp underneath).
