Look in the center of this photo for an orange spot. That's the dog standing over my drive, and the basket is 30 more feet up the hill.

He started locating discs and standing over them.
Found it.

The only problem is he likes to find everyone's discs.

Jeebus, now I have the itch to get my parents jack russell terrier bred again. I want my own disc dog damnit!

A bunch of really good looking pups on here.

Meet Mic, my newest friend and discin pal

he's 8 weeks, 3 days old

He hits the course for his 1st trip out this afternoon:)

Cute puppy! He looks just like my golden looked when he was a puppy. How did he do on his first trip to the course?

These are my pups. The white one is Maxximus, he's half pointer half bull terrier (after he ate my three piece sectional) . I call him my cheater dog because whenever I have a bad throw(into brush) he picks it up and brings it out into the clearing. The brown one is Paige (smiling), she's a full blood bull terrier. she just loves to get outside and walk along with my wife and I.

I always liked bull terriers. They look so odd but so cool at the same time. My mutt Otis ate my sectional when he was young, too. I'm surprised he survived that day I was so mad. He taught me a lot about patience. He's become the greatest dog in his later years (he's always been a great dog, he's just gotten worlds better). I hate that he's already 12. Time flies.

He did awesome. I went out with a friend so it was just 2 of us playing and the pup. He followed me the whole time, laid down or sat down whenever I stopped to shoot, and didnt chase a single disc.:)

Oh and he definitely had started to learn "Mic, Get off the Tee" by the end of the round lol.

This is my dog rambo. He is a great disc dog as he will find the disc and sit next to it, never touches it. One problem is on the first few holes when i tee off he gets excited and barks sometimes, after that he is very good on the course. He is boxer/husky mix and i have had him since he was a puppy. Sorry the first pic is so bad but its the only one i have of him out discin.

7 year old Boxer Lab Pit mix. Never brought him to the course cause his retrieving instincts are so strong. PLUS every disc he sees, he insists is for him.

Where did you get the saddlebags for your dog?

I wish my dog would just stand over the disc. He is pretty fast and think would save a lot of hassle of finding wild throws.

Also, do you guys bring water for the dog? What do you use to carry it all, just throw it in your bag?

the "girls" as my wife calls them. don't try telling them they are small because it pisses them off, especially Lola (the black one). They actually hate small dogs and only play with big dogs.

If it's at all warm out, or I'm going to play more than 18 holes, I have water with me anyway. I just pour some into a putter, and my dog is happy drinking from that.

My dog does the same on the first hole. He knows it pisses me off, but that boxer energy just pushes through and makes him bark once.

Answers to other questions as follows:

Some local dude sold me the bags he made for his dog. They are pimp with a glowstrip. :hfive:

I give the dog some of my water in a disc.
I usually have more water in the truck to give him after 9 or 18 holes- I just gauge what he needs and deliver accordingly.

The dg park where I take my dog has a creek running through it, so I let her drink from that instead of toting water. But when I get around to buying her a backpack (saddle bags), she may start carrying water for herself.

My local shop owner and me got to talking about dogs. He told me that he knew someone with a dog and she(i think it's a she) taught the dog to grab the disc and suck it between the bars of the basket without damaging it. Also heard about someone near winthrop who taught their dog to dive under water and retrieve the discs.

Maverick is the Aussie, a little over a year old.
Tess is a chow/terrier mix, right at 6 months old.
Legs belong to my wife, approx 23 years old.

Have brought Mav with me a couple of times but he's @ about 65 lbs and loves to chase the disc. Was told to get put some bitter apple spray and toss them around the back yard for a while to get him to stop picking them up, keep forgetting about it though.

Anyone with tips on getting them not to pick the discs up?

bitter apple is great, but will probably make your dog hate any form of spray afterwords. If they get a wiff of it when you spray it and remember it's that stuff they hate then they will probably think they hate any spray thing.
