Profit margin for manufacturers are huge it cost about $2 max to produce a premium disc. After about 3000 sold they've already paid of the cost of the mold and then some.

i get to see what Big Squirm has in the bag this weekend in Savannah. Should be interesting

Jerm only had a few Prodigy D1s which he showed off at our club meeting last night; they were sweet feeling. He also bought a BigBird Roc3 from our club stock, wanted more but sale was restricted to one per person sale.

I'd love to see McBeast and Nate Doss (w/ Chuck Norris DNA activated) win all the Majors and NTs this year. Take that Prodigy fanboys. :p

The only way that's possible is if PMcB wins them all, or all of Prodigy gets food poisoning.

lol. Just did some math. Nate Doss made $2,825 more than his girlfriend this year in winnings. In fact he made less than half of what PMcB did this year, and made $388 more in winnings than Cam Colglazier. Hah! He made $2,346 LESS than Catrina Allen did this year. Man. The fall from #1 must be rough, when you fall that hard. But then I guess big boys do fall harder than most.

I wasn't really thinking about trying theese discs.
But then I saw paige's video.
That was a great way to promote the discs.
Even if I could easily tell that all those guys has better form than I do.
Might be able to beat her bother.
If I throw a roller perhaps.
Great video, I enjoyed it.

He came to a club meeting? What to show his new stuff?

I'll agree the profit margins are good, but they're not making them for $2, not even in low end plastic. There's a thread where we've discussed this, but its a higher than $2. Again, still a healthy margin.

This whole "vested interest" thing got me thinking. If these players are getting an equal share of profits from disc sales and such, I would be willing to bet it goes the other way too. Prodigy is going to see a percentage of any winnings their team rakes in. I'm honestly not sure if that was the norm for other big-name sponsors, though. But with a team like they have, Prodigy will most likely be adding a nice chunk of change to their profits with those winnings. I mean, any manufacturer and vendor will tell you the profit margins on disc sales are absolute crap. Taking a slice from winnings is pure bottom line money.
Ill take that bet all day long. There is zero chance players are giving prodigy any of their winnings.

The actual molding cost may only be $2, but there are a lot more costs than material to run a manufacturing business.

Why are you so sure? We've never experienced sponsored players that have a vested interest in their company. What financial gain would Prodigy have in giving them 2% (allegedly) stake in sales profits, paying their entries, lodging, etc. and not get anything in return? That's just giving up money...for what? Being able to say their player won an NT event? If these players are truly invested in Prodigy, it makes sense Prodigy will want some give and take. Not to mention, it would make sense for the players themselves to invest some of their winnings back into the company to get more discs in circulation, more marketing, etc.

Anything like this is good for the sport. There was a time when everything frisbee/disc related was all about Whamo. There can't be a single Whamo disc thrown at a NT event by any sort of ranked DG pro. Things change.

I think Prodigy has three things going for it that will be helpful: 1) Appearance - the discs look sick. 2) Durability - they are crazy durable & 3) Consistency...this means you won't see quite all the boutique markets for weird variations of OOP Prodigy discs to the same degree you see it with other manufacturers because these discs will fly very consistently from run to run. That is because they know how to make a quality product. Excited to see them grow. Count me in.

I don't think you really understand how a business runs. Sure, the raw material only costs $2. What about the guy running the machine, the machine itself, the maintenance on the machine, the mold, the cost of the manufacturing and storage facilities, research and development, administrative overhead, taxes, advertising, the salaries of all the other guys who work for the company...

Just playing devil's advocate here, but how do we know these discs are going to be so consistent when they haven't produced them yet? Because they say so?

Well that's what makes it a bet, hit one of them up on facebook and ask. I would be shocked if I was wrong. If I knew you and this wasnt the internet I would bet 100 on it.
