[Westside] Tell me about your Stag...

A great assessment! Saints and Stags both in my bag, 147 Air Saint, 156 Air Stag, 168 GL Saint, 165 VIP Stag. With the choices of weight and plastic they cover a ton of lines. Next to try for me is a heavier Vip Stag, afraid it will retire my wind Teebird.

And on a side note Man U, how do you see the Red Devils doing under Moyes?
. The stag was very throwable for me but the Saint is one if those discs I just couldn't get a feel for, literally and otherwise. the VIP Stag can be powered down to a degree which is useful as well...you can get some nice 80% shots with it

Played a round at Patapsco, mostly short to long, to try out my new VIP Stags and a couple of other discs (River, Truth). For me, the Stag is very workable – stable with a decent fade when thrown flat, gets remarkably good distance on a flex shot, and best of all holds a nice long anny before fading out at the end. That controlled anny-to-fade shot is the one I have been missing.

The Stag fits nicely between a Banshee and a River/Diamond. If the Stag can handle a moderate headwind and is routinely available at 162-164 grams, I might have my new stable fairway driver.

I was surprised by how a TP Stag suffered in a strong wind. I wish I had had some beef to compare on that wild windy day.

Otherwise, can!t wait to throw it again!

Yeah, I usually reach for the VIP in windy conditions. The Tourney can survive with the right amount of hyzer, but it gets finicky for sure.

How close are these to Eagles

I think the Eagle X is their closest touch point; I liken the two often. The Stag starts out with some turn and a big fade, and loses HSS before LSS. The Tourney is closer to a DX EX and the VIP is closer to a Champ EX. It wouldn't be a stretch to call the Stag a EX in Lat plastic with more glide.

i have thrown the stag 395 once but i can average 375 feet with it. love it. i agree with discblaster, my vip stag is straight with little turn and a good amount of fade. my tourny plastic is anhyzer and then a little fade. i can throw the tourny plastic further but they hole a nice long line and they are low lines as well. take a look at hole 14 at mt airy dgc i overthrew that hole with the stag in the long pin. i was 25 feet past the pin. that is on flat ground. this disc is amazing.

People hate on Stags for not being 8,6,0,3

So in reality maybe they should be 8,5,-1,3

But what's wrong with that? Other than absolutely nothing. So maybe they aren't headwind discs but that's what the trident, XXX, or Boatman can be used for.

But there is no doubt that if you respect a Stag as having a little turn and good fade then you have an awesome line shaper.

So maybe it wasn't a TB killer. But it sure as hell is a better EX

Heavy VIP stags are pure awesome...need a bit more beef for wind? Pair the Stag with a a Saint Pro.

Well said. I've been throwing Stags since they came out, and they continue to ever-more-firmly entrench themselves in my bag. I agree they're awesome line shapers; they're the only disc in my bag that I have a proper cycle going with. A beat-in Stag can hold a slight anny very well on a hard throw without coming anywhere near flipping. Also, while they aren't wind killers, they do hold up in the wind better than they get credit for. It's officially windy season here in NOLA, and I'm relying on my Stags more and more. It flies almost like a River in most moderate winds: some turn and some fade back to wind up straight ahead-ish.

Great workhorse overstable driver in my opinion.

Stag is very nice disc.

Here's what I found out through MY throw (I throw max. 300ft).
When thrown flat it will fly a long way straight and then fades hard.
When thrown anhyzer it will hold it's line and glide to the right.
It also does good job at hyzers.

If thrown with an anny angle, will a VIP Stag fight out of it? How much power do you need to put on it to really see some high speed turn?

My bag is over populated with discs that are resistant to turn or conversely, flip-a-riffic. I'm looking for a disc to carve some S-curves through the woods and I have a preference for the sexy euro plastic. Any other discs that might fit the bill? Thinking from the fast mid to fairway type speed range.

A fresh Stag will, especially a max weight VIP. It takes some wear in either plastic for them to hold an anny to the ground. I get turn out of mine with ~325' of power. Like Eagle Xs, the turn really starts to show after a little wear.

The Stag is a great line shaper, but I rarely throw mine in the woods. The fade is too big to feel safe doing so. The exceptions are big hyzers or long, gradual left-turning holes where I don't have to worry about fading into the rough.

I had a 172 VIP stag that if thrown flat, would turn over and fly an anny line all the way to the ground unless given a lot of height and time to come back. I was throwing mine about 360'. And that was when it was brand new. The only way to keep that thing straight to left (RHBH) was to put it on at least a 25 degree hyzer to allow to flip up and ride straight with a forward left finish...and this was at about 80% power. I felt the stag to be sensitive to having to much put behind it. Its a fantastic disc, and if I didn't love my rivers and saints so much I could see a max weight vip stag and lighter tourney stag covering similar lines if they had to. Only problem with this thing is the breeze from a crows wings across the fairway could alter the flight...... :\ Lol, not quite

My stags are begining to turn heavily to right. I can get 173 tourney and
169 VIP o make big S curve. There's nothing wrong with that except that courses nearby have pretty much only tunnelshots.Should I get a heavier Stag or some other discs.

Can't edit with phone so quoting. I'm basicly looking for disc with high HSS so no turn. Could heavier VIP stag do the job?

A) Make sure you aren't OATing
B) Try hyzer flipping if they are turning that much if thrown flat
c) Opto Saint Pro

The Westside discs I have thrown are finesse discs. If you are having problems with them turning right, you may want to back off on the power a little. Or I like to hyzer flip mine for max distance. If you want something that you can throw flat full power and not have any turn at high speed you will probably want something else. Maybe a PD or a champ Teebird.

A max weight VIP Stag will be much closer to what you want, but it'll still have some wiggle, especially as it beats in. I love Stags, but they're not 0 HSS.

sorry i havent read through the entire thread but over the last two weeks ive been testing some euro stuff and really really dig the Stag thus far.. throwing a opqaue 168 VIP and thing is beefy but awesome.. like a longer Eagle-X for me .. curious how much flight difference there is vs the TP plastic?

Same basic flight, but the TP will fly straighter longer before the fade kicks in, and if you really snap it, it'll fade a little less than the VIP. Because of this, the TP is a bit more of a versatile line shaper, has a bit more distance potential, and perhaps most distinctly, can be made to fly with less lateral movement than the VIPs.

Stags'll wear in like Eagle Xs too, losing HSS before LSS. It's a very nice disc, and definitely a longer/glidier EX in nature.

^^^ sweet thanks ill have to check one out .. i love it thus far but boy oh boy when she hooks up and starts fading it fades hard i love it lol .. had a shot over the weekend that honestly should have been crap i released it super low but down thing skipped about 6 times going down hill to park under the basket
