Nikko Calls Foot Fault on Gurthie ... "Don't you shake his hand, bro.."

Sure.....he was off to the right side of the disc by about 6''. I'm not saying it wasn't a fair call but there was no advantage gained as you can see the line is identical 6'' left or right.

It was a shot that required a pretty strong hyzer line to get close to the basket. By moving 6" to the right, he definitely gained an advantage.

Tiger woods doesn't even think he would call nba because Kobe travelled lol.

I agree either make us shoot stand still or fix this little drama rule.

The way to eliminate this issue is for people to learn how to throw correctly with a run-up.

Pretty simple. And if you can't do it right, you get penalized. What's so hard to understand about that?

Stand-still and throw. stupidest god-damn thing I've ever heard in my life.

Throwing from behind your mini while running up isn't much harder than throwing behind the line in bowling. Anyone who has a hard time or thinks it is a stupid rule, obviously does not know how to throw correctly.

But really, it was s simple foot-fault. I would expect someone to call me on it and I would definitely call you on it. Doesn't make you "that guy" or a "dick" It just means that you are following the rules. I gave a guy I never met before a foot fault call on his first shot of the round. We were friends by the end of the round.

QFT.

Thank you.

OR, call every single foot fault that happens in every tourney, every weekend.

Neither one will never happen. :|

This does not have be an "all or nothing" solution...

Both the specific issue (accurately judging a FF on a run-up), and the general one (a reluctance to call out infractions) could be more realistically addressed if the effort to be more strict and precise started with a pro tour (NTs are the closest thing we have to that, but that's a different thread).

On the specific issue, there should be a way to definitively determine if someone has stepped on the appropriate spot on a run-up. This is not about jump putts or stand-and-deliver shots, so it wouldn't apply that often for the players at that level. I will leave it to those more knowledgeable about the exact dimensions of the correct area than I am to suggest how this might be accomplished.

I don't think an official in every group is necessary - if we had a proper pro tour and created a higher set of expectations for its members, we could cultivate a mindset approaching what the PGA tour has. Let's be realistic - touraments that are open to recreational players cannot be expected to hold its participants to the same standards as the pro tour.

Absolutely. Forcing everyone to standstill is entirely unnecessary as it is just another part of the skill set to use a run-up and not foot fault in the process. Although I personally wouldn't mind a mandatory standstill as I would temporarily gain an advantage over most of the field until everyone else caught up with me on that.

It does annoy me quite a bit that people who call infractions are seen as jerks. Even in a less significant circumstance, such as a weekly league, i dont make it a big deal but if someone foot faults slightly, afterwards ill let them know. Not as a warning, but so they pay attention next time. Even in my effort to try and 'keep the mood light' for what amounts to a beer round thats barely a competetive thing, the response is generally pretty negative.

You almost automatically become 'that guy'.

Its hillarious to me some onthe bs that comes out of dg'ers mouths when they are penalized. Its usually not a statement defending their action as legal, its usually something along the lines of, "well, you havent been calling that when so-and-so did it" or "oh, i didnt realize we were playing with a professional" lol, its laughable.

Word. Couldn't agree more.

If you don't want to play by the rules, don't play a tournament. Why? Because you are signing up, literally, to play by the rules.

And if you think someone enforcing the rules in a tournament is a dick then guess what: You, my friend, are the dick.

This guy is friends with dick.

I know emotions get high in competition but Gurthie's move at the end of the round was pretty classless.

How do you even know what GG's intentions were? If, he was even upset? Or, if there is even more to the story? (For all we know, Nikko could have banged GG's sister) You guys are making some lofty assumptions.

If disc golf is ever going to be considered a legit sport, the "don't be a dick, bro" reaction is going to have to go away. The foot fault was legit, or GG wouldn't have had to rethrow, (and as mentioned before, someone needs to second the call (or maybe they looked at the video) for it to stand up.)

But let's just say Nikko was "being a dick" by calling that. So what? It's a competition. Reggie Miller talked all sorts of trash during his career in the NBA. If it helps him and his team win, then it's accepted as being competitive. "He's a gamer." Why is disc golf different? Because all the competitors need to be buddies?

Imagine Tiger Woods caught in a sand trap on the 17th hole of a big tournament. On his practice swing, he makes contact with the sand. Phil Mickelson calls him on it. Can you imagine ESPN or other people covering the event saying, "awwww, bro, that's not kewl".

No.

My question is could they have gone to Marty and looked at the recording? It doesn't happen very often where you have videographic evidence, but in this case they could easily have checked.

If anyone can give an answer to this question, then calling foot faults shouldn't be considered rude.

When you enter a PDGA sanctioned event by choice, how is not fair to play by PDGA rules?

You have a choice. You can run your own event and not have foot faults. Or you can find events where those aren't called. But the PDGA has a set of rules and they are expected to be played with while playing in a PDGA sanctioned event. Fairness or unfairness of the rule is irrelevant when you, essentionally a customer, have a choice of what business to support. If I don't like Coke and order a Coke when I have other options, is it really fair to complain the server that the Coke wasn't good? That's basically what happens when these situations like this come up.

Reminds me of #11 at league Wednesday night...

I was putting for par from about 40 ft and hit the cage. One guys says, "Scott, you touched your mini." and another guys says, "Yup. You did."

I proceeded to re-throw and jarred the par putt. Then everyone said, "But we didn't call you on it... no foot fault was called." Everyone got a big laugh and I knew I couldn't call it on myself. They said, in a tournament, they would've.

At the end, I tied for 2nd instead of an outright win... I'm not bitter... it's a fun league with little on the line... but I felt like it was "called" when they told me I violated my mini. Just because they didn't use the words "foot fault" is irrelevant I think... In fact, it's a "stance violation" to be specific, right?

i have to say, after watching it twice. Gurthie looks like he is doing that to be a dick to Nikko. Ricky was excited, wanted to shake hands Gurthie jerked him like he was his bitch. grow up. u messed up. he called you on it. be professional. sometimes we forget how young these guys are tho. emotions do run hot.

wtf? they faked a foot fault call and then got you for a practice throw? or you missed the first and made the second but didn't get to count it?

Often, perceptions and reality are often not one in the same.

David Copperfield makes cars disappear on TV. Does it mean those cars are actually disappearing into thin air?

My point is that calling GG a punk/classless/etc. based on the video is pretty presumptuous, and classless in and of itself.
