Introducing SD, Salient Discs

How else will you at least give people an open mind. Just because you get an elite team of pros doesn't mean it will be a game changer, but when you provide the kind of info like scientists, equipment,etc.. To back up the claim it makes or a slightly more graspable concept dont you think? Not to bash prodigy of course, the discs are good, just not for me

I'm just trying to give you guys a perspective of where this crowd is coming from. There's a lot of new companies popping up and a few of those have put out this image that they are going to revolutionize disc technology. You can just tell from the sentiments of most that they are tired of that, I think a better PR approach is to let the discs do the talking, then people will ask questions and then you can hit them with all of the science.

I did door to door sales for a year during the height of the recession. One thing I learned over that time is that you can't hit people with a ton of info and expect them to love it and get excited immediately. It was way better to give them nothing and make them question just what you were doing at their door. When they started asking the questions then I could hit them with the information and that made the sell much easier because they asked for it.

You always want people asking for more, not asking for less; and Prodigy is a good example of where some people are asking for less just because of their PR approach. The discs really do feel great, I threw some and they fly pretty great but the image they put out is hurting them.

That's my real talk for the month.

My bad on posting the links to the website, literally all I did was google Salient Discs and it was the most pertinent result other than DGCR stuff. I was just excited about the prospects and wanted to share. I had no idea that people would pull the grammar card and would make a big deal out of tiny details.

Dont sweat it bud, you were just excited, it wasnt your fault and Chris is taking care of it :)

Whoah, who are you and what did you do to the real New013?

This is a true sales concept. "Winning the silence." There's a point in the sales pitch where you have to stop talking and let the customer step into the vacuum first.

If these discs turn out to be the real deal and blow away what is already out there, they won't need any star power. :|

True. I was just referring to the hype generated partly by Team Prodigy, and mostly by us internet dorks.

I'm wondering if anyone from team SD can comment on the max weight / high speed driver safety issue. I think there could be some legitimate concerns with the max weight of the Prometheus, given it's rim shape.

Very true but look at this thread, its different on a forum because you leave a post with all the information, it gets read and then you get the reaction of the reader, reader then posts opinion on the post, rinse and repeat. Bit of a different sales pitch than a 1 on 1 pitch

Whether you get hit with. Speed 9 rim or a speed 14, heck even a speed 2 at full speed its going to hurt... Unless you mean something completely different dealing with safety issues, its just a bigger rim

Good point. And of course, look at the activity this thread is getting today. Somebody once said that all publicity is good publicity.

I'm with you for the most part here, I'm interested in new concepts in general, and don't judge based on this forum alone. I don't hate, but anticipate.

I'm a grammar Nazi, true, but I know it's how I am, and don't judge. My agreement with the "game changer" comments earlier are more in general, and not a stab at this thread, or the new company.

In other words, I fully support your bag video project, and I don't think the all the grammar talk on here is an issue w/r/t SD's roll out. The proof, they say, is in the pudding.

And fwiw, my 'get a grip' comment on the bag video thread was more about the Grip dude coming in like a hard-on about it.

I'm going to start a new disc company that bucks the trends.

"We are going to do nothing that changes the game. Our discs will be the most inconsistent discs ever thrown! Everyone is trying to imitate CE, so we are releasing our discs is less durable plastic than DX, with the grip of Star soaked in motor oil, and the price point will start at $30. Our team will consist of the finest Rec players in the world."

The diametrically opposite approach might work as well:

Our drivers are designed to add another 100 to 150 feet to a 500+ drive. Players must have superior talent to tame the insane potential designed into our products. Not recommended for novice, rec, or intermediate players. Before you buy, ask yourself: "Am I good enough?"

It's true that if any disc hits you, it will hurt. I'm just wondering about the Prometheus. AFAIK, it is at least 9 (approved) grams heavier than any other wide rimmed driver. How this will affect it's velocity, and impact force...I'm not sure. It might be no more dangerous than a 200 gram DX Condor. Or, it could be the most dangerous disc in our game.

If it doesn't meet the standards, it won't be approved. The PDGA has, to a degree, accounted for safety with those standards, so it will be on them when all is said and done.

Not to be a d!ck but Chris can't remove the Cached pages. Therefore anyone can still view them. I will say the Missing Chromosome Grip Technology™ has me intrigued.

"The most dangerous disc in the game" is probably the best tag line going. Certainly couldn't hurt sales.

And my philosphy is, a disc is only a dangerous as the thrower.

Heres is where a lot of the skepticism is coming from I think, at least for me.

Out of nowhere I see a company saying...
they are going to make discs more consistent than anything out there
they going to have scientists and physicists on the staff
climate controlled injection molding and cooling
robotic this and that
special plastic

AND were going to do it cheaper than anyone else......

AND the disc is like nothing you've ever seen....all the High speed discs are actually smaller in diameter and yours is bigger.....

Its a very tall order...thats all......

Talk like this with no fact or proof to back it up and people will naturally be skeptical...thats all

Again not a flame and good luck for sure hope it works out but thats why some people seem less than enthused about this right now. Now if you put a disc on someones hand and a noodle arm fires it 450 or you get some pro to launch one 900 feet or so and I bet people on here would be falling all over themselves to get one.....

But saying the disc will break the distance record and doing it are two totally different things...... things like that

This is true...especially when you witness beat to s***t cobras being tossed on 400' pure hyzers.

Right? Also meant, like with me, I NEVER assume "I'll never even get to those people." As soon as I say that, I'll unleash an unheard of 500 ft spike hyzer and take somebody out...or, miss my line by like 45 degrees and toss one into the highway or what have you.

OK, if/when Salient Discs is looking for somebody to drive their RV around the country, PM me. Since I can't seem to ween myself off this thread today, I'll probably be looking for work in the near future.

i agree.

how are they going to fund an entire series when the USDGC can barley get by?

if the disc design is that different, how long until everyone else makes a copy? we already have elleventy companies with copies of the aviar, roc, teebird, destroyer.

best of luck to the new company, but the main word that comes to mind is saturated. if their products stand apart then they might have a small chance. there are a lot of fish in this small pool.
