As you guys have noticed by now, I've split the original Equipment forum into a Bags, Discs and Other section. Within the discs area I split off the manufacturers that had the most threads and gave them each a sub-forum. As other manufacturers get more popular they would also get a sub-forum. The main "Discs" forum would be for everything else, the X vs. Y threads, etc. The idea being that if you're searching for info on a particular disc it would be easier to find it in the Innova sub-forum versus searching through a ton of threads in an all inclusive "Discs" forum. This is still an ongoing process, there are many threads left to move.

That being said, a few people have mentioned they don't like having things compartmentalized like that. There are certainly pros and cons to this approach so I thought I'd put it to a vote. Should I kill off the manufacturer sub-forums in the Discs forum or keep it as is?

Any way to have a parent category view? Treat the sub-forums as child sections and have a link that displays all threads under the parent category of Equipment? Seems like a "View All in Equipment" link would achieve the old functionality.

edit: I do it by treating Sortby or ID values like cable channels... a range of them = this parent, etc etc.

I could install a mod that would list those threads in the "main" forum... so they'd be listed twice, once in their sub-forum and once in the main one.

I voted to keep it the way it is now.
Great work, as usual, Tim.

I like the bags part, but the disc variety is so huge, im not sure it fits. The idea is there

The new categories should work, as long as the (for example) roc vs. buzzz threads are kept in the general "discs" main forum.

I do support Zam's idea of a "view all" option; but that's a coding thing you might not want to get into when running a bulletin board -- at least until you're forced into it ;)

making the best even better... Thanks Tim! :hfive:

Can you really have segregated disc threads like this without hurting someones feelings Tim ?

Like, I dunno, say Prodigy ?

I really enjoy the splitting of the equipment forum into the bags/discs/other gear sub-forums, but I voted against the manufacturer sub-forums. The reason for this is - and I apologize if I don't articulate this well enough - if I look at the main display page and see, for example, that the most recent Innova thread is something about the Star Mamba, I may not be interested enough to click through and see whatever else has been posted about Innova subsequently. So, in order to go into those sub-forums, I have to be particularly interested in something and search it out, rather than let the recent discussion drive where I go.

In the grand scheme, it is not a big deal, but since it is being left to a vote I wanted to explain my choice. All in all, I think it is an excellent change that will help de-clutter things on the whole, which is sorely needed. Good stuff.

Maybe make the Innova forum "Innova/Discmania/Millennium".
And Discraft could become "Discraft/DGA"
Latitude could become "Latitude 64/Westside/DynamicDiscs".

I voted no, mostly because of the incomplete manufacturer split. The solution above could be a compromise but is still incomplete.

But why can't we split into real life categories? Like:
Drivers
Midrange
Putt/Approach

The rest of the Equipment split is fine with me, except I don't get the "bag" and "bag suggestion/feedback" split.
