What is your "Epic Roadtrip"

Just wondering what the dream disc golf roadtrip would include. Say you had a week to drive through any part of the country, where would you focus your time, what courses (and/or bars) would you hit?

Washington state. They didn't have too many courses there, when I was stationed at Puget Sound Naval Sipyard (1984-1987). As for the bars, I guess I'd look up my old hang outs in Bremerton, and see if they are still there!

I do one every year. 2010 was Charlotte and Augusta. 2011 was Oregon. 2012 was Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New York. 2013 is most likely Wisconsin.

All I get is a week!?

Depends on your definition of Epic, and how much golf you want to get in.

I could imagine a killer road trip that spans the country, playing one maybe two courses per day and spending the remaining time driving (only sleep while your partner in crime drives), this could be epic.

I could imagine a killer road trip in various parts of the country that involve 3-4 badass courses per day play your ass off while there's daylight, drive into the dark stop at great bars/restaurants and camp out along the way.

I could imagine a more leisurely trip in various parts of the country, playing specific courses, seeking out specific brewpubs/bars/restaurants and specific parks and camping areas.

I could also imagine (though haven't experienced) one seeking out fine dining and hotel stays and amusement parks..

I took a pretty sweet Winter Holiday Road Trip road trip about a year and a half ago:

• Sat Dec 24th (Morning): Timberdoodle Thicket in Middlebourne, WV
• Sun X-mas Day: I unwrapped all 3 IDGA courses in Appling, GA and spent spent the night.
• Tue - Thu: chilled in Ft. Lauderdale with family & friends
• Thu (PM): Okeeheelee Park in Greenacres, FL
• Fri Dec 30th (AM): Magnolia DGC in Live Oak, FL
• Fri Dec 30th (PM): Flat Rock Park in Columbus, GA (with Connor Jones)
• Sat New Year's Eve: Flyboy in Whitesburg, GA (with Connor Jones et al)
• New Year's Day: Morristown Kiwanis DGC, Morristown, TN (with Curveball)

9 courses in 4 states, with a few being big time destination DG, and the others being decent to very good at the least... and I still had time to chill with family and friends.

Some would call that epic, others would say it's only decent.

I'd like to hit some of the killer courses in Wisco, with Highbridge figuring prominently, but but also Sandy Point and some others... Selah also seems like a worthy destination - sure there's some good discing to be had along the way.

Mine is, in an approximate line northwest from here, Ashe County, Hawk Hollow, Holler in the Hills, Idlewood & Mt. Airy, Flip City, ferry across Lake Michigan, Highbridge Hills, and a LONG drive home.

I have a hard time picking favorites out of the roadtrips Ashleigh and I have done so far. One took us to the southeast where we hit most of the Charlotte courses, Winthrop, Stoney Hill, Flyboy, Hippodrome and the IDGC plus a bunch of others along the way. Our trip through WI where we hit 35 courses rated 3.5 or above including the Highbridge complex was fantastic. We really enjoyed our 10 day, 11 state, 40 course trip to the northeast. That's leaving out a bunch of great trips. Any time we can be on the road playing cool courses we've never seen before is a great trip IMO.

For me, an epic road trip is all about the drive. So I wouldn't necessarily seek out a tight cluster of courses, but instead would make long drives to top rated destinations.

So with that in mind, I threw together an itinerary that I think would make for a pretty epic road trip.

Day 1: Drive from Merrimack, NH to Spotsylvania, VA
Day 2: Full day at the Blockhouse
Day 3: Drive to Appling, GA
Day 4: Full day at the IDGC
Day 5: Drive to Talco, TX
Day 6: Full day at Selah Ranch
Day 7: Return rental car and fly back home.

One week, three awesome destinations and nearly 2000 miles traveled.

This years DG road trip for me will be from Chicagoland area to Colorado/New Mexico. Loop around from the front range to west side of Colorado. I'm trying to play anything conveniently on my drive that is a 3 1/2 rating and up. I don't really have a game plan on specific stops. Just a general idea.
Oh, and the bars along the way will be involved.:)

Hopefully you can find another middle of nowhere townie bar with a basset hound on a bar stool. :p

My EPIC dg trip is most likely going to have to wait another year. :\

I would love to trace these guys' footsteps:

So it took them two weeks, but maybe I can bend the rules a bit since traveling to US from across the globe and then spending only one week there would just not be enough :)

Homer or not, those are some damn solid courses, if BlueGill, Myle Kimmerly and Carly's playground are half as good as people say they are.

Serious question: Why no Goliath?

Serious question: Why no Goliath?

i had it in there at first but im not sure id be able to fit it in the same day with the other 3. it certainly deserves to be in there if possible though, i would imagine it could be arranged. ive played beauty, beast and leviathan in one day so i think goliath would need to be penciled in on another day.

Day 1: Blockhouse
Day 2: Hawk Hollow, then drive to Charlotte.
Day 3: Charlotte courses
Day 4: Charlotte courses (Part 2), maybe Winthrop thrown in there, then drive to Stoney Hill.
Day 5: Stoney Hill, then drive to IDGC.
Day 6: IDGC
Day 7: North Georgia Canopy Tours, then truck on home.

(I want to do this sometime real soon:))
