What backpack bag should I buy?

he is making a reasonable assumption based on the in depth video he has seen on the catalyst and its hard to argue the bag being made out of 1000D Cordura, just like the grip is and I agree. That is why several are suggesting he wait for the customer reviews. One thing to add, Salient will have a full stock of bags even after pre orders are shipped out, so should new decide to wait to see customer reviews and then decide he wants it, he won't be waiting long at all to get it.

If only it was as easy to judge quality and reliability based on individual components rather than the sum of their parts. It'd be like saying Kias are just as safe as Volvos just because they're both made of steel.

Johnson is also making a blind assumption on the comfort of a bag no one owns. To vouch for a bag he's never worn to a guy who's #1 criteria is comfort because he has back issues is just asinine to me.

As much as I was rooting for Salient and the Catalyst to do well when first announced, the delays and your nonstop schilling for the company has really turned me off to everything Salient related.

LOL. I suppose you are correct, sir.

I try not to troll the Salient threads, but man it's hard.

^All of this.

Take this from someone who doesn't own a Grip, but has worn one several times (caddy). It was very comfortable, with the weight centered firmly on my upper back/shoulder area. Had no trouble walking around with it on and felt no fatigue from carrying the weight.

The Catalyst might be cool, if it ever gets here, but the Grip has had its roadblocks and come through with a proven quality product.

Also, the Upper Park Shift could be something to consider, never worn one, but it holds the range of discs you could be looking for.

Thank you! :hfive:

The way PF/Salient Kilgus/DGfanatic have chosen to conduct their business on this site has turned me off to anything and everything they do and make. Battling other users, blindly hyping new products, dgfanatics bot-like posting and the undercover paid sales rep angle are beyond annoying. They might indeed make a great product, but I will never know because I simply can't stand the reps. :wall:

I do my best to avoid posting in their threads as trolling is not my thing. But there is many a time I have to simply bite my tongue and move on before I give in to that temptation. Just not a fan of their business model and online behavior.

I say get a Grip bag, mine is by far the best bag I've ever had. Grip EQ is the best bag company on the market IMO. Why get anything with but the best? If your willing to pay $200 or more for a bag & don't need a bag with a lot of disc & storage space like a Mahal than the Grip is the bag for you.

As a fellow GRIP owner (L-series) I can support the above post. The bag is super durable, has plenty of pockets for items and a lifetime warranty I will probably never use. Going on 9 months with about 200 rounds and I dont think I have even broken it in yet. Very happy with my decision and I would make the same decision today.

Maxed out I can get 19 in the main (drivers/mids) and 3 in the putter pocket for 22 total.

Salient should disappear for a while, maybe we will forget.

The grip has to be the front runner. It's made better than the ranger. Grip a series for the win. I wanted to like the ranger but it's not ready to compete with the grip at all.

The wait is long but I haven't seen anyone mention the simian. Also a stellar bag that looks way better in person. Rides nice and high and has great storage options not to mention a seat.

I too have a bad back and the only bag that truly fits your qualifications is the Catalyst. I would be more than happy to give you a full review once mine gets here. Salient used top notch tough materials and it is the perfect size that you're looking for.

It also has to "get here" first.....

Yes I know there's all kinds of threads like this out there, I know I can look up all kinds of info on my options. My response to all of that is I'm lazy and it's much easier for those of you who have bags and are more familiar with the ins and outs of them to suggest what would suit my needs best.

This annoys me because a forum newb would get flammed for this. But, when a forum elder does it, people just start throwing out suggestions without hesitation.

So, my suggestion is to duct tape a plastic grocery bag to your back

I only agree with this half way. If someone comes out and says "I'm looking for a disc that I can cycle, I prefer this plastic etc", they usually don't get flamed. Asking for specific information is different than ignoring already aggregated data.

Why am I getting flamed? I qualified my suggestion based on his specs and he knows the bag isn't here. This is why I said I'd give him a review once it got here...

Mystery Ranch Golf Mahal is the best disc golf bag being made.

They are a serious backpack company that decided to make a backpack specific for disc golf. Not a disc golf start up that is trying to reinvent the backpack using cheaper materials that turn out to feel like a cheap peice of luggage.

a little larger than the OP is looking for i think
i still believe the Catalyst fits the parameters listed the best

Not to bash on catalyst at all it's probably gonna be a great bag but how can so many people vouch for this bag? It's not even out yet and is still in the middle of the ocean lol

I say get a simian
