What backpack bag should I buy?

If only it was as easy to judge quality and reliability based on individual components rather than the sum of their parts. It'd be like saying Kias are just as safe as Volvos just because they're both made of steel.

Johnson is also making a blind assumption on the comfort of a bag no one owns. To vouch for a bag he's never worn to a guy who's #1 criteria is comfort because he has back issues is just asinine to me.

As much as I was rooting for Salient and the Catalyst to do well when first announced, the delays and your nonstop schilling for the company has really turned me off to everything Salient related.

This ENTIRE post sums up my feelings towards salient discs. Well said.

well if you drag your feet a month or so
i will be able to tell you about my wifes' new catalyst
which sounds like about the right size, for the amount of discs, you say you carry
other than that, my grip A series meets all your other requirements to a Tee

Not to bash on catalyst at all it's probably gonna be a great bag but how can so many people vouch for this bag? It's not even out yet and is still in the middle of the ocean lol
nobody is "vouching" for the catalyst
most people suggesting it, are saying to wait and see.
that it looks good on paper, when it does get here, i will tell you what i think

by the same argument, me suggesting a bag based on some stats,
isnt far off of me telling him whats really best for him, based on a list of requirements that he has, for a bag.

both are guessing at best
the two lists line up perfectly, other than, that he is on his own

The Contender was actually what I was leaning towards but because there will probably not be a new run for a long time is why I'm looking elsewhere. I probably will wait on the Catalyst reviews to see if that will be an option of mine however just getting a Grip is another option because I know so many people who are happy with theirs and I like the way it feels on my back.

Thanks for all the info and suggestions guys.

Ergo 2

I'd go with the ergo 2 or an ozark. Both cheaper reasonable alternatives, but the ergo has better vertical storage IMO. But it doesn't matter as the grip is the only thing available anyway. All this arguing over bagpacks when grip is the only vendor with inventory. Haha. It's a grip or nothing. No choice.

Thankfully the grip happens to be BEST choice, as well as the only choice apparently. win/win.

I wasn't talking about the posted you quoted with mine other people are for sure vouching for the catalyst

just reread this whole thread, still couldnt find anybody vouching for the catalyst

You have to read the thread that got locked. That one was FULL of people blindly vouching for it.

I say get a Millennium/Hyzerbomb Flak3. They are pretty awesome.

vouching and over hyping I feel are two different terms. I will admit myself and others have really over hyped the bag. however If I see someone asking for specific qualities and a specific budget I won't let that go by, and now I simply recommend to wait for reviews of the catalyst before deciding of course new already knew this but he is going a different route which is completely fine

Warning Rant Ahead, and if the shoe fits

You have to read the thread that got locked. That one was FULL of people blindly vouching for it.

i have, and i suppose i am probably one of those people you are referring to.

but if you take the time to reread the thread with an unbiased view.
you will find that most of the posts, that are in favor of the bag, are not nearly "blindly vouching" as you would like to think they are :\

what i think is funny, every time this bag comes up, most the people on the positive side of the bag,
are just reading and replying to questions and/or asking questions with some of the known info that is at hand.

everyone that is on the negative side of this bags conversations, never bother to read with any comprehension, or they clearly change the question/statement (in their own mind) to fit their negative attitude towards salient

it is this kind of situation, and these kinds of actions, (throughout DGCR), that in my mind, help contribute to the stereo type and generalization, that most disc golfers are a bunch of pot smoking/beer drinking idiot chuckers

and thats too bad, because i know thats not the reality of it

sorry for the rant, its just been wearing on me, carry on:\

"most of the people" that agree with you are good.

"everyone" that disagrees with you is bad.

So if someone doesn't like the bag, then in your mind they are a bong wielding, drunk moron?

huh.

My wife bought me an Upper Parks Shift for fathers day and I couldn't be happier with it, even coming from a Voodoo Mojo. I've come to realize that I don't need a disc golf purse that holds all sorts of junk, just a bag that holds discs, a drink, keys, and maybe a granola bar. Anything else I can grab from my car mid round.

The shift isn't going to hold a lot of discs, I only keep 11 in mine with maybe room left for a driver or two. Out of those 11 discs 3 are putters and 4 are mids so if you have a driver heavy bag you should be able to fit more.

Durability seems fine to me but think I'm pretty easy on my disc golf bags as I've never had any signs of wear on any bag I've owned.

I'm thinking of getting this bag but I would never "vouch" for something i have used I learned my lesson when I told everyone that "the cable guy" is gonna be Jim Carey's best movie

I'm pretty sure that's not what he said. Why is it that every bag thread gets filled with pooo by u and Heavyc?

This isn't about me. It is about ur fetish with pooping in bag threads. Blindly hating is just as dumb as blindly supporting.
