Bad tournament experience.

So you were there? Did you see me go up when he called my name out as second place? That was the first time the td talked to me after rounds were over. He didnt even tell me he was giving me second place. I heard it when everyone else did. I wonder what made him think i would gladly take second place with no explanation whatsoever. Lol. I am really over it and im not even upset anymore. Still havent decided if im going to contact pdga or not. Leaning towards not as i really think he knows he screwed up. Heck i would have been ok with a putting playoff. At least give me a chance. Its not like the other guy had a better score than me.

no you NEED to report it. for this sort to go anywhere on a competitive level this kind of stuff needs to end. there needs to be more solidarity in how tournaments making rulings/decisions. Additionally, things like this can scare people away from tournaments, that's exactly what you don't want. I personally don't want a TD who acts like that (supposedly) repping a sport I love.

I have about ten tournaments under my belt, and, if I'd played one or two more this season, might have finally climbed out of MA4. Along the way I've been "in the plastic" in MA3 and MA4, but never won a division. I have won enough plastic that I'm not all the excited about winning scrip (I need a longer disc wish list, maybe). Around here, there are usually trophies for the winner of each division. And, I think I'd be sore about the loss of the trophy - I'm sure once I had a couple they'd be no big deal. But, I'd be happy to win the first one!

I'm still a bit sore about the one playoff I was involved in. The TD told us it would be X holes and then CTP. I now believe, but didn't realize at the time, that this isn't how it's supposed to be. Per the manual it's just a playoff for as many holes as necessary, right? We played our allotted X holes even on each hole (or maybe X+1 holes?) and then were going for the CTP. At the time I was miffed at the TD arguing with us about whether it was X or X+1 holes - maybe his instructions weren't clear, or maybe they weren't clearly understood. He was upset - probably he just wanted to get home. My opponent and I were in clear agreement, at least. But, now I'm a bit miffed I lost in a CTP when it should have been a straight playoff. His drive was considerably better than mine - if we'd thrown the same drives (who knows, with a different goal?) maybe I'd have lost it fair and square. But, I'd have been happy for the chance at a miracle birdie, at least! I'd already had one on the first hole of the playoff.

"If there's a tie for first place at the end of the second round, there will be a 3 hole playoff. Holes 10, 17, and 18 will be used. If still tied, a sudden-death-hole-playoff will happen, starting with Hole 10, and continue upwards until someone outright wins a hole.

If there is still a tie after 18 holes of sudden death, I think somewhere it's written it comes down to an Indian Wrestling match."

I should clarify, even if I'm being too lazy to quote the rule book. My recollection is that arrangements like this are actually fine _if they're announced in advance of the tournament_. Otherwise it's a series of one hole sudden death playoffs (I think the book even states the order of the holes - which was also violated in my case, but I've not bothered to consider who that might have favored).

As many as it takes. They're bound to have a differentiation in scores eventually. The odds of them matching perfectly stroke for stroke through 36 holes is pretty astronomical. The odds of them continuing that streak just get higher with every hole they play.

Unless it's a matter of darkness preventing play from continuing, they keep playing (even if it's just on a specific loop of holes) until a winner emerges. If it becomes such an issue that everyone else wants to leave, do awards while the playoff goes and if they're still not done at the end of awards, leave the trophy(ies) and the prizes/cash with them and ask that they let you know the result.

IMO, tiebreaker playoffs can be a TD's best friend. Send the players out, encourage everyone else to go watch, then take advantage of everyone being distracted to finish up the scoreboard, get trophies/prizes/cash all in order, and be ready to start up awards as soon as the playoff finishes.

He not a victim, Christ...it is a disc golf tournament. Who has so little self esteem that they become a victim of principle. Some people need to learn to fight the fights worth fighting. If you think it is your job to fight them all, then you end up a bunched up, frustrated "winner", always thinking he is owed something. The OP seems to have a pretty good handle on the issue.

Would have been nice to go out with a win but it wont keep me from playing tournaments in the future. Its like i tell my buddies who get mad when they play bad. Its just disc golf. At the end of the day i still have my wife and daughter to go home to. Disc golf is something that adds to my life. Sure i was mad on my 3.5 hour drive home but i'll keep chuck'n.

I am the PDGA coordinator for TN... I was also at the tourney, a local, and know the TD. I can assure you that the TD did not give the win to his buddy! This TD has been running PDGA events for 10+ years and has always ran a smooth tournament. I was playing the other course so I did not witness exactly what happened at your course.

I understand your sentiment and will talk to the TD and the PDGA about what happened or did not happen.

Without talking to either party I would assume the scores where tallied and an announcement made. (that you did not hear) The other player was present and given the win due to the fact you where not present. If this was the case.... The TD had no choice but to award the win to the player that was present.

As I said before I will contact the TD and the PDGA to discuss the events. If you would like to PM me I would be happy to talk to you personally.

This is why I don't play many tournaments anymore. This same thing happened to me a few years ago and I was a little more forward with my displeasure. Needless to say the guy avoids me when he sees me now lol.

But yeah just forget about this and go have some fun rounds with friends and everybody throw a dollar in for kicks. That's what we do on Sundays.

Was this at Steele Creek? I try to go up there at least once a month. It's a nice course.
