I haven't seen a thread here for the $$$ Wizards from Gateway so I thought I'd start one. I just picked up six on Gateway's Cyber Monday special (and two Glow Wizards for the heck of it).

According to Dave McCormack:

I want to clarify what a $$$ stamped putter is all about. $$$ stamped Wizards have an added polymer that's different than regular stock stamped putters. We use an engineered polymer which is a Thermo plastic Vulcanized (TPV) rubber combined with a specific type of polypropylene (NO LDPE and NOT a co-polymer PP) along with mineral fillers as weighting agents for all of our S plastic putters, mids, and drivers.

For the $$$ stamped runs we add a s lightly different polymer to give it a little different look, flex, and feel. Typically the discs will mold up a bit flatter (as you can see in the picture) and become somewhat gummy on the surface with use. Eraser Wizards do not have this polymer additive and do not have the same feel, especially after they've both been used for a few rounds.

Regarding the picture (those available right now, in red/pink only):

These $$$ Wizards are Super Soft in flex, with an added polymer which makes the surface gripper and gummier with age... Also the shape is flatter than most Wizards... needless to say these puppies are $$$!!!!

I'm looking forward to giving these a try. I putt with a black 5S Wizard currently, but it's stiffer than two RFF Wizards I've got. These sound pretty nice.

I used to put with the SSS wizard, then moved to a SS magic or S magic.

I find that the $$$ blends the rubbery grip of the SSS or more S's, but is closer in firmness to a SS or even a couple of S that I have felt.. I love the flatter flight plate as well. Great discs, my favorite putting version of the wizard.

i used to have a green 170..the $$$ ones are definately rubbery super grippy almost a velvety feeling plastic and are nice and firm without being to firm..great blend

played with a couple guys throwing these this weekend. they are pretty $$$weet. (not quite enough to make me switch putters, but they are nice)

Those us of who live in St. Louis are so spoiled we just get to thumb through racks of wizards to find the one that feels just perfect ;)

I really want to visit Gateway some day...

On-topic, these Wizards sound really nice! I've seen the stamp before but I had no clue it was a special blend.

I got my six $$$ Wizards in a few weeks ago. Three are pink, three much more red. One was 175, so I've marked that for possible re-weighing later after it's worn out, as it's against the rules currently. The others are 172-174.

- GREAT grip. Grippiest Wizards I've held. Grippier than my 5S black "gamer" Wizard.
- Very stiff. I know they say the S level doesn't really relate to the stiffness, but these are pretty stiff. Not G9i or even Medium stiff, but a notch or two below them only. Stiffer than most "S" Wizards.
- Small flashing along the bead. If you're throwing full power you'll probably want to sand it off before throwing them or it could scrape you a bit. If you don't care it would likely wear off relatively quickly, especially if you throw a few times in a parking lot.

VERY happy with these. Not kicking my 5S Blackie out of the bag but great addition to the practice basket and high on the list of replacements if Blackie ever starts misbehaving. :) May add one to replace the pink SSS I use for occasional upshots.

Only illegal if you get caught. Seriously though, that would be a dick move to call somebody on a factory disc that scales less than 1g over limit.

This is the response I got when I asked about Wizards marked 175, since I've seen a lot of them. I found it interesting.

"The max weight on any disc can actually be 8.3 grams per CM in diameter.

most of the runs of our putters are 21.1cm which means they would be allowed to weigh 175.3.

we should probably send them all in again to have them remeasured.

The thing is if I wanted the wizard to be able to weigh 177.62 grams I could hold 3 in the mold for 3 minutes each and send them in and t hey would be 21.4 cm, its how innova got theres up to 176, if you checked most of their aviars you would see that none are 21.2 and they are no longer 21.2.

the question I always ask is why isnt the rule made for the disc in use and not the 3 that are sent it 10 years ago.

The thing is most 175 gram discs ( by all companies are probably rounded up from 174.?? to 175 so I wouldnt worry too much.

of course there's always the rounding down to 175 which has been going for for 20 years and 10 million discs without any problems.

do you have a recently calibrated digital scale or a good $300 triple beam??
