Disc Golf in the News

It's great what Zoe (and Dustin) are doing with this. Good stuff.

I have a question, though. The headline on that article says:

"World champion duo builds local disc golf community safely during pandemic".

I checked both of their records on the PDGA site and I didn't see any sort of World championship for either one. Dustin has a nice number of career wins, 13, all B or C tier. Zoe has an even more impressive 32 career wins, including a couple A tiers and multiple State championships.

So is that headline just the media taking some artistic liberty with their article or what?

I don't have any idea...
But they could be World Champions in other things besides MPO & FPO. There are world putting champions, doubles champions, disc mini champions, distance champions, etc...

Plus, I doubt they had any input into the headline.

"Last year I was named the 2019 Professional Disc Golf Association Educator of the Year and the fact that I started a nonprofit that was completely dedicated towards teaching and growing the game on a youth and women's level, I would say that that's my World Championship right there," AnDyke said.

Because after 15 years and multiple world championships, Zoe knows what the sport can do for others.

Oak Grove in Pasadena closed again to disc golf due to a unsanctioned tournament that was held unbeknownst to the city.

OMG WHY DO PEOPLE DO THIS???

Even before the pandemic I would get folks asking on how to run a tourney (not that I am an expert by any stretch) and first thing I always always always always tell them is to ask first. You never know what the property owner may require for insurance (among other things) in an organized event setting. Totally boneheaded and selfish move. smh

Disc golf isn't quite real golf, but it does deliver some of the same challenges and satisfaction

And this isn't disc golf. This is what we did in high school 35 years ago when we used our Ultimate discs and the first hole was the flagpole in front of the post office --- in the next little neighborhood about 20 blocks away.

Ohhh.....I think this is VERY much disc golf. At it's purest, striped down. It is the roots of our modern game. It is the game that Steady Ed took and developed. It is what a Frisbee what designed and made for. Any story I hear of anyone going outside and using their imagination to find and engage in play, makes me a little happy inside.
