Floating discs

130g blizzard stuff floats, not cheap but the go if you have a noodle arm as I do... Also, there is no shame in walking past a water hole if you don't feel good on that day. The thing about floaters, you still have to get the thing out of the water. Throwing rock and sticks in a pond just makes a mess when folks try to drive them ashore.

As for dragons, I have tried throwing them and frankly I think they are designed to find water.

I have all 3 Innova discs that are advertised as floating coming... in the mail... this week...

the light blizzard champion discs float nicely and if you want to try a highest speed driver I think this was the best way for me to get the feel of them without having to seriously uncork a throw... that being said... I'll definitely get back on here and put in my 2 cents after they get here...

I thank you all for your input and incite you to continue posting your thoughts and comments (and 2 cents mythy). Just to put back into perspective my purpose in initiating this thread. I am not trying to throw anything into the water at all, that would be a waste of time ,and in the case of non floating plastic, money. I was trying to find discs that are good for regular play, as in not just throwing over water, but that would float on the off chance they end up in water for whatever reason. I would rather wait for my disc than have to buy a new one.
I have a 135 quasar zero g that I like. I'm just looking for others that float because it's a bit too over stable for me.
Thanks again for all your input. Please continue.

Find discs as cheap as you can and buy a ton of them.. then you wont care at all when they go in the draaaaaaank :D you have a PIAS around? barter.

I often bag a Dragon when I am around water. Sometimes it flies really well for me. I don't use it regularly. However, I did run into a guy at Swope one day who was using a Dragon for most of his shorter drives. I asked why, since they beat up so fast. He said they were cheap and worked well for him. <shrug>

Oh, we used to have one not too far away but it closed about a year and a half ago. They didn't carry much disc golf stuff anyway.

1. Don't throw in the water.
2. Don't let friends borrow your discs and throw them in the water.
3. Floating discs are tough to throw, you won't want to use them on any other holes.
4. If it does land in the water and float, you still might not get it back if it floats away. (Not everyone returns discs they find).
5. Mystery boxes, used discs on the marketplace, Play It Again Sports, DX plastic etc. are all good ways to get discs cheap.

Got the HYDRA, DRAGON and WAHOO in the mail last week... started testing with the Hydra as a putter... love the way it flies on less than 50 foot shots... it is my new putter... all of the time...

heavy, flat and direct to the hole... probably not for everyone but I dig... like throwing a chunky Coyote.

Yup, I've implemented a no throwing over water rule for borrowed discs.

I like the #2 driver & #2 Hyzer. More over stable than Dragon, Wahoo, etc.
I am a lefty and it seems that most water holes favor the righty for the fade left back to land and safety.

The only lefty friendly water holes I can think of in Florida are at Gordy road and Cliff Stephens with a lefty friendly fade to the right.

That said I used floaters for a long time. These days I have added a flick to my bag and I forehand or flick righty friendly water holes to fade to my left.

If you find your self in the same boat and have not added a forehand flick to your game, get on that as Dragons & Wahoos are just too flippy to depend on.

Also when your disc ends up floating you probably have to go out and fetch it from the water ;)

Not entirely a solution to a problem. I still am fretting the day I face a course with water hazards. Better bring a crappy disc for that shot!

I've heard a few people say they like throwing #2 drivers not just on water holes, if it floats that's a plus to me.

if you buy blizzard... some float under 140... some don't... my 139 katana sunk yesterday and I had the darnedest time getting it back...

I only use the Hydra consistantly but that is because Number 4 at Shu Pond is 140 ft long and it sits 8' from the water. Just makes it easy when i over shoot the basket. Plus, i just have my dog retrieve the disc.

The Hydra definitely is a putter.

would suggest that you are incorrect :)

as a speed 3... innova calls it a putter...

truly... it is both a mid-range and a putter... much different feel than most other discs... effective in the hands of some... and it floats

Blowfly. Flip flat, flies straight. I threw one for years, several times into water. Last time it just floated downstream, with me chasing for a while. I think it is still going....so, if anybody finds it, it is mine....Vonbreezy.

Discgolfcenter calls it both. I mean any putter can almost be considered midrange if you want to say that the hydra is.

My point is it is shaped like a putter. Nice and round.
