I hadn't been out to Bear Creek in Grapevine, TX, in a while until yesterday. While there, I found out that the guy that had been collecting money for club dues has dissappeared with everyone's money. Quite a few people forked over $20 a pop with the promise of a club t-shirt, bag tags, and the occasional event to be thrown for club members. I don't know how much money the guy took off with, but it had to be a few hundred at least.

There was also another guy there that runs the minis that had a copy of an email from someone in the city council saying that they were receiving pressure to close down the course in light of supposed criminal activity. The email said that police patrols would become more common in the course.

Starting this thread to see what anyone else knew about these issues.

Also, the guy's name that supposedly took off with all of the money is Ken Regan. If anyone knows anything about his wherabouts, that info would be appreciated as well.

That sucks. I've heard about there being more of a police presence on the course but I didn't know anything about them talking about shutting it down. Hope it doesn't come to that. That course is awesome (except for the poison ivy).

Hopefully this D-bag gets caught. I smell another DG crime investigation. Maybe we'll find him on ebay?

Never heard of that guy, does he play? I have heard the rumors about police activity showing up more often. And in my opinion for good reason. There is a nice neighborhood there and quite frankly every time that I have ever gone out there, there are dumbasses just walking around with beer and you can smell smoke everywhere. I know I drink on the course sometimes but there is no discretness out there by any of those fools.
On the fact that Ken took that money, how long has he been gone? How was his attitude, did he seem like a POS or what? I hope that peole get their cash back back if he is gone then tuff. Rick Banister ran many PDGA events and he took alot of our payout from the last tourney he ran a couple years ago and has vanished. So I know how yall feel, except it wasnt 20, it was 125 in plastic

Great....

I doubt that the park will be shut down but the thought is scary. That's really unfortunate that this guy has run off with a bunch of money, hopefully there is some great explanation for what's going on.

Ken is a pro golfer from Fritz park, he hasnt gone anywhere i'm sure. He helps run the Fritz club and their mini's and has been trying to start a club around Bear Creek to help with the anti-disc golf atmosphere that has been brewing there for the last few years. I talked with Theth the other day, he said the city told them that they could no longer run mini's out there due to the neighborhood complaints, complaints that im sure have more to do with the enormous amount of casual golfers that play this centrally located and relativley short course. If anyone wants to talk to Ken he is always at the Saturday morning mini at Fritz and usually at Tuesday Dubs. I will try to get in contact with him and let you know what I hear.

I really hope you are right about Ken. The guys at BC (including Mike D who runs the minis) yesterday were saying that Ken hasn't been showing up to the Fritz minis either lately. Have you seen him in the last week or so?
The club was supposed to be a positive influence on the course and help with the "anti-disc golf" sentiment that seems to be prevalent around the area. If things continue like they look like they are going, then the club basically did the exact opposite of helping.

I know that the police presence is increased. I saw Theth get busted for selling discs. We thought that was a little bit extreme for the police to be concerned about a guy selling used discs for $7 a pop.

Why did they bust him selling discs? Were they laced with something illegal?

Just being jerks. I guess you have to have a permit or something.

They had an undercover cop hanging out that pretended to want to buy discs and then the guy called in a uniformed patrol officer. I was right there when the whole thing happened.

Wow, figure the police could use their resources a little better than to shut a guy down for selling discs. An undercover sting? Honestly..

I would be very supprised to hear that Ken stole that money. I don't know him outside of golf but he is too deep into the scene to pull something like that. Aside from that, the guy hits so many ace pots he doesn't need to steal golfers money, he earns it easy enough!

I did see on facebook today that someone got busted/ticketed by an undercover for selling discs at the course.

Ken is a big supporter of clubs and minis. he plays minis at Bear Creek, Fritz, the Vet and he has come up to McKinney a few times for the Sunday mini(when it happens).

He prolly has the swine flu. Heck, the weather has been terrible the last few weeks, he could show up when the sun comes back out.

Good thing our vigilent police officers are stopping this type of heinous crime!!! I know I'll sleep better at night... So if I've got something I want to sell and you want to buy it from me, I need to get a permit from the state first? I wonder if they're busting p craiglist and ebay as well....dirty criminals....

I thought he was a stand-up guy too, so hopefully that is the case. I thought the same thing. I wouldn't trade a few hundred bucks to not be able to show my face around the dg scene anymore...so why would he? It's just a weird situation.

I think he is in construction or does carpentry. I recall him talking about work being slow that time Haleigh and I played the BC mini.(when we played w/ you before the round) Prolly out of town on a job or something much less sinister.

Seriously, the guy has probably pulled in a grand this year just off ace pots. No way he would throw that cash cow away for club memberships.

and Steve, he almost has a Yankee accent

Ya and Rick had a disc store and own brand but still ran off. Just cause he hit 1k in aces doesnt mean he isnt a douche. Not that he is but you never know.

Actually they have been doing this at Bear Creek for a few years now, most of us drinkers stay away from that park for that reason. There is a famous story about a guy who threw his stash in the creek and his own dog jumped in and retrieved providing the evidence for the Police :D

This is true, he's an ace cash hound. He's from Brooklyn and he's a really good guy.
