2015 Amateur Championships at Bowling Green

I am really confused, wasn't 15 going to be at kalamazoo and 16 at bowling green?

2015 Amateur Worlds at Kalamazoo. Not sure about 2016.

This is the annual Bowling Green amateur championships. It's not Worlds, but it's one of the huuuuge A tier events every year.

Bowling Green is the largest Amateur event in the world! Every year...

Loved this tourney last year even though I played horribly. My only regret is not getting there til friday!

Yea getting there on Wednesday is really really nice. Just a long relaxing weekend.

Great thing about the rating system is you'll start with like rated players. Then, if you play well you will be with others playing well and if you struggle, you'll be with other strugglers. Usually there are discs given away for winning each card to keep interest.

Does this apply to aged divisions as well?

^^
Nice! Consider me intrigued.
Next year Worlds in is my "backyard." Gotta play that.
But after reading this thread I will have to seriously give it a think.
Played Hobson Grove a few years back & really enjoyed it.

Please note! The best courses (most challenging) are used in the Advanced divisions. There are good ones in every group but for an overall experience of play.

Event Year Total Players #adv men
BG 2012 631 T 176 MA1
BG 2013 625 T 155 MA1
BG 2104 697 T 159 MA1

Worlds 2012 705 T 288 MA1 Charlotte
Worlds 2013 536 T 216 MA1 KS
Worlds 2014 612 T 278 MA1 St. Paul

Charlote > BG KY > Rest of World

Additionally, a side note. Scores to make final 72 (it was like 64 in Rochester) needed to average 958 almost 10 pts higher than any other years. 931 would have got you top 72 in Rochester. So biggest Am event yet, plus hardest competition.

From just one division yes its bigger but doesn't Am worlds only offer advanced divisions? From just the advanced yes it looks like worlds is larger.

BG offers all divisions and i think those #'s need to be factored in.

This is a fine example of making #'s look how you want them to look.

They look exactly how they look. Ill simplify.

It was stated BG is BIGGEST Am event ALWAYs.

At 705 Charlotte Am Worlds is the largest Amateur Event ever. If you take away Men Advanced, Int, Rec. It was by far the largest Woman, and Age protected event ever. If you want to play in the always largest Rec or Intermediate division...BG will always be the winner.

I was just commenting on Diversity. The largest BG event had 481 men play in ADV, Rec, Int. 69% of the field. Charlotte worlds had 288 or only 40.8%. At 417 players it non traditional "men" divisions almost equaled that of BG's men coverage. So BG doesnt pull the players that I personally would like to see growing the sport, women and juniors like the Charlotte Worlds did. To some people that doesnt matter. To me it is an interesting contrast/compare to add to the discussion.

If we are talking about BG and you arent MA1 MA2 or MA3 you might want to check out a Worlds instead to get the competition you desire.

If you are an 870 rated male...under 40 and older than 19, BG is your tournament.

If you are a 970 rated male between 19 and 40 US Ams in Michigan or Worlds is your best competition. IMO

Wow! Realization has just sunk in. BG Ams 2012 was my first ever sanctioned event. Mind was blown, of course, at the size of the event, so I've returned each year.
Been eligible for World's each year since (started too late for Charlotte), but haven't been able to afford the trip until Kalamazoo, so I plan to do both in 2015! Incidentally, 895 rated Am Grandmaster, here.

:D Sorry for the trolling :p
I can save this... So what does everyone think about spotters putting their crap in play.

Just kidding Dave is a great guy and tournament director. Leave him alone.
