[Question] Is it more about the number of molds or total number of discs for you?

Mold minimalization is nice on paper, but I think it's bs. Yes, good players do it, but are also able do things most regular players cannot, mold minimalist or not. Throw what works for you. Hype is wiggiddy whack if it doesn't fit your throwing style.

I think it comes down to what molds you know better. Fewer molds=higher percentage you will know those inside and out. As others have posted I like to throw less molds equalling more consistent release and better understanding of said mold. As of late my scores have been lower than ever. My average round was 950ish. Now My average is about 970 and topping out at 1000ish.
I throw:
2 champ firebirds...one meat hook and one seasoned
3-4 star destroyers...distance from flippy to overstable
2-3 teebirds...nice and controllable also easy to range
2 pro Leo's... Turnover to controlled hyzers to tight, longer wooded shots
1 wasp... Overstable mid
3 buzzzes...straight to flippy, easy to range
1 comet... Control and glide
1 rhyno overstable putter
4 wizards...2 for putting 2 for driving and Approach

I literally carry 7 molds and 2 of those molds I only carry one of. But i carry about 20 discs. I think it is very beneficial.

Neither, the only thing I need to be concerned with is "will the disc fly?" If it does what I need, it's in the bag. If not, leave it at home or sell it.

I found that everytime I get new discs in the bag my scores drop. I score much more consistently with fewer molds. Firebirds X2, PDs X2, Escapes X2, Rival(would have a backup if I owned one. D:,) Leopard X2, Gator, Roc X3-4, Mako 3, Antidote, Wizard X4, PA4. I just added the Mako 3 and Antidote, as my flippy Roc happens to be a SUPER beat 11x KC that is due to break anytime... Haha. They cover more than enough of the same shots to work well.

I'm not a fan of cycling discs, that being said my lightly seasoned Escape is in a sweet spot right as of.... now, and pairs nicely with my brand new PD. But I find it incredibly stupid to buy a disc nowadays knowing full well it will need to be intentionally beaten in to not cause overlap... especially with all the great molds out these days... and witnessing someone throwing their disc against trees and what have you just to get it to fly "right" makes me embarrassed by association.

Go to any local course and watch 90% of players that carry 5 of each mold throw them all equally bad :p

But seriously the vast majority of players do not have the type of control and consistency needed for the true nuances of cycling plastic to matter.

Usually I see the Trilogy guys with 28 different molds struggling.

If there any exclusively gateway minimalist out there reading this I'd really like to read what you carry.

I'd imagine it would look like: Wizards, Warriors, Sabres or Apaches, Slayers? Probably a utility Demon or Spirit for overstable

Never done it so take it for what it's worth.
