[MVP] Atom

Oh I thought you might be a guy I know in KY. Yea these things do glide nice. The first couple throws I got an easy 250ft with a flip shot and an ahny bomb. I was wearing my winter coat though so I didn't really try to rip one long.

Do the atoms get warped like protos after a direct tree hit? Like the rim gets bent in towards the center a bit and the top plate has a bump because of it.

I'll have them in 3 days, but I can't wait to find out:

how does the 'softness' of each compare to soft P and N? This has probably been covered before, but...

My big worry w/r/t warping is my mailman, who jams all my orders into the box. Justin uses the bags for smaller orders. I added a hat in mini, hoping to get a box!

The flight plates on the atoms feel way softer than the soft proton/neutrons imo. The OM is grippier but seems to be close in flexibility to my soft neutron envy. So hopefully not a bunch of warping for people getting them shipped.

the discs themselves are not softer tho really. The plastic texture is softer but IMO soft neutron and proton are a little floppy in the hand and when you wave them like a fan the discs bend much easier. Specially some of the very gummy soft neutron and proton which has come out lately.

here is a discussion i had in the VIP lounge:

PM sent! I'll take the 171 Soft Purple.

How soft is soft? Can you compare it to ZeroSoft, ZeroMedium?

Is the softness only in the core, the overmold, or the whole disc ?

Dark purple, correct? Its definitely more like a medium. Not floppy at all and the overmold in general on MVP discs seems to help with shape retention so you find even in the soft putters the rim/core area is not mushy like a soft vibram for the extreme end of things lol. My soft neutron/proton are WAY more flexible though. I can roll those up into tacos and spring right back to life.

MVP uses "one" plastic for both of the parts of the disc regardless of which one it is or variant of it so the "whole" disc is always similar feeling in that sense. Overmolds just seem to help with overall shape retention.

This is more accurate. The discs themselves are more stiff than soft p/n as a whole. The texture of electron just creates a "soft" feel. It's almost like the best from gateway with a little vibram rubber feel.

I just want my thumb to sink in a bit.

even in the firms that's no issue. Compared to a "soft" magic out in the garage at 30* its still pliable while the gateway is VERY hard.

@Ryan-

Yep. It reminds me a lot of oop GRIP line latitude plastic once it was old and lost all its gloss. Little rubbery feeling for sure and helps with grip in all conditions IMO.

I've beaten up my production tester quite a bit...rocks, tree hits, all of it. No warping.

I had previously complained about the flight plate on my proto warping after a tree hit. After that, since it was already messed up, I started throwing it a little more. After 20 or so rounds of putting and some approaches and occasional drives, the warpage actually diminished enough that I'm not even sure exactly where the raised section used to be. I still don't think electron would work well for drivers without some tweaking though.

Tldr; I just ordered some atoms :)

I really enjoyed the Soft Electron plastic. The atom is a really nice disc, I'll be excited to use it in about 2 months.

Luckily I got a preview in today due to the temp being so warm. The plastic is grippy. I really want to see the Anode in this plastic.

I threw the Ion for a while before going back to a base line plastic for putting. I'm interested in trying the Atom but see in the MP that some are listed over the PDGA spec.

What are y'all finding? Is it a certain colors I should stay away from or is it totally random that I might get an illegal disc?

I didn't get one over max. hell I think I hardly had any 174g really.

FWIW I have scaled many a MVP discs and they are actually illegal when stickered at max weight.
 oh well...........

the 160's don't have a "light" feel to them either, not sure if the OM just gives it the weighted feel or what.

Why not just order from a place that scales them beforehand, like Marshall Street? In the grand scheme of things, I hardly doubt anyone is going to pay attention to an extra gram on your putter unless it's defying physics or something.

It might be sacrilege, but has anybody tried rolling these yet? Beating in my regular and the overmold just seems to grip ground and go. Makes me really want to see an electron inspire, amp, or inertia

No way, man. Discs are round. You can roll them all! (I have not tried rolling the Atom yet though)

Edit: ^ And about the weight buffer, I don't think that exists. Rules is rules.
