Definitive shoe thread

I'll have to look at mine to see how everything else is holding up. I haven't noticed any problems and they're a couple seasons old if that helps. Like I said, it happens with almost all of my shoes (not just DG ones) that have inner heels like that, so YMMV.

Just got a pair of the new Keen disc golf shoes. So far they have worked very well. It is the first waterproof shoe I have used on the course and I don't think I will buy another non-waterproof shoe. Can't speak to the durability since they are new.

Whatever you buy I highly recommend buying them from REI. They have a no questions asked 90 day return policy. I bought some Keens that came apart and the return was simple. They told me that I could have returned them even if I just didn't like the way they felt. Nice to know that if something doesn't work for you that you have an out.

I think my wife is going to get off of work early, we are going to scope out REI.

JRW, how do the new Milos feel?

I have the gore-tex Merrell Moabs, and they are fantastic. My first pair lasted me 2 years and right around 850 rounds of disc golf, along with about 350 miles of trail hiking. They're no longer waterproof, as I wore through them in a couple places, but they're still quite comfortable so I wear them on dry days. I have a new pair with about 175 rounds on them, and they're in almost perfect shape and still waterproof. The vibram soles on them hold up extremely well, even on concrete pads, the old pair still has plenty of grip and traction. I would agree with others who have said they feel a bit clunky, but I think they are less clunky than any of the Keens I have tried, and have better flexibility in the sole.

I'm in a similar boat myself. I bought a pair of cheap "hiking shoes" and I just don't like them very much. Part of it is that the metal...shoelace holes? Grip the laces too well, meaning you can't pull them equally tight across the shoes, and they ripped my first lace by literally shaving it down...in a WEEK (granted I played a LOT that week...)

Also they're just not as comfy as I would like. I'm thinking about picking up some insoles which might make them more comfortable, and would push my foot up towards the laces a bit more meaning I might kill two birds with one stone.

Right now I am playing in an old pair of Addidas SS2G's...AKA the newer version of the Addidas Superstars (think Run DMC) Mine have the sneaker bottom, not the tennis shoe bottom (I hate those) and as long as you don't have wet mud...they're fantastic. If I'm playing anywhere that has cement tee pads around here I don't have any reason to want any other shoe.

But that's only a very few courses around here...

Merrell Chameleon, had them for about 4-5 months now. Bought them for around 110 bucks. I've been extremely impressed with how well the soles have held up since I'm wearing them 24/7 plus DG. Well ventilated, comfy, the elastic pull tight band is awesome. Not very waterproof though so probably not the best rainy/winter shoe to disc in.

I just had the weirdest idea for dg shoes...Soccer cleats. I know sounds weird but they would twist very well on concrete tees. Probably not the best idea otherwise...just was a random thought that popped into my head. Too bad I've definitely out grown any pairs I've owned...could have tried them out.

My gf plays in soccer shoes all the time, indoor soccer shoes (no cleats) for courses with concrete tees, and sometimes the cleated soccer shoes for muddy/icy days, it really seems to work well when the ground is slippery.

Very comfortable. My only compaint is that it is a little loose around the ankle, and the way the laces are designed, I can't get it any tighter. Hindsight 20/20, I probably should have ordered 1/2 size smaller, but it was not worth sending them back. Not being able to try them on before you buy is a big downside of ordering them off of the internet, and as far as I now, you can only buy them online directly from Keen at this time.

I wear "HI-TEC" light hiking boots. They are EXTREMELY comfortable, and well made. The pair on the right are my summer boots. They are very ventilated, and keep you feet nice and cool on those hot summer days. The only draw back is they are not water proof at all. They soak up water like a sponge. They retail for about $29

The pair on the left are my Waterproof, and winter boots. They are 100% waterproof. I have walked through 3 inches of water, and my feet stayed dry. I use them for the first rounds of a tournament when the ground is wet, or if it has been raining or is a muddy course. They retail for $70 at Sports Authority, but I got them on Clearance Sale for $30.

Both of these boots work great for disc golf. Concrete tees, grass, dirt, dosen't matter, they work great. I mean, what is disc golf? Its light hiking right?

Those look pretty damn cool. How are they in the summer time, and do you know of any national retailer that sells them? I don't like to buy shoes with out trying them on first.

theyre great for all four seasons. i bust them out when the courses start getting wet in the mornings and when i go into the ****. i bought them from my local crackhead merchant so idk about the retailers (his name was jose i think). i couldnt speak more highly of them though...definitely worth the effort to investigate though. :)

I rock the K-Swiss Approach they are like $65 at Sports chalet. And they have worked great for me, on and off or concrete tees, they wear very well, and are comfy, and resist water pretty decent. had em for a year.

i LOVE my k-swiss. i...LOVE my k-swiss...:(

that all they got at goodwill these days? :p

seems like i'm the only one who prefers my plain jane, regular toe, broken-in work boots. they may not be light as tennis shoes, but they have a wide stable sole and the best ankle support i know of. When i play in my tennis shoes i'm all wobbly and unbalance off the tee pad, but not with my sh#t-kickers.
