Off season?

Ya no off season. So far this year it has gotten to 16 degrees with a bit of wind. As long as you can keep a good pace going you can stay warm. My biggest winter pet peeve is cold putting hand.

No off season here in Tx. Well.. I'm not playing any more snow, sleet, days, but otherwise there's a good chance we have over 300+ playable days in Tx each year.

I live in NC as well and I have 1 buddy that will play with me no matter the temp. We even played in the snow at Valley Springs last year. I had to send a photo to my buddy from Wisconsin to show him we play winter disc here. Of course the snow was gone 2 days later and we were out playing in shorts again. So my buddy got that photo too to show that winter is only a couple of days at a time here.
But winter before last we had a cold spell were we played in single digit temps. Of course we are the only ones on the course when it get chilly like that.

Temps are supposed to be near 80 this week down here, they've been in the mid 60's the past few days, loving it. Being from TX, and a "wimp" when it comes to colder weather, I usually don't go out for a bike ride or disc golf if it's in the 20's. I played in the snow last year just because it was something new and neat to do.
In the event it's "too cold" here, I'll just turn the heat on in the garage and putt.

It's going to be in the mid 50s this weekend so I will be playing, the south is a good place to live for disc golf.

Now I just have to figure out how to get the WI/MI courses down here...

Looking like low 70's here. We'll probably see "shirtless guy" who seems to have been missing for a while.

Offseason? Well that depends on how hard core you are or how crazy. I'm 62 years young living in Niagara Falls, NY, I have no offseason. Dressed appropriately I've played in waist deep snow and air temps in the negative numbers. Then add some wind chill to that. But there a lot of guys I know who take the winters off.

Proper clothing including a neck gaiter. There's lots of great lightweight modern fabrics to keep you warm and dry. Wool, or polypro blend socks are a must. There's always an icy puddle just a little bit deeper than your boots. Handwarmers! Handwarmers!! Handwarmers!!!

Did I mention handwarmers?

Discs do not fly as far in the winter. The cold air seems to cut some distance. Then the less than ideal footing coupled with extra layers of clothing and the wet, cold hands. Takes some distance away as well.

One of the MANY advantages of disc golf over ball golf you can play all year!

Oh yeah, and don't forget the hand warmers.

I play less during the winter because there aren't tournaments to prepare for but i still throw 3-4 days a week. Get yourself good cold weather base layers so that you can be comfortable without 50 lbs of clothes on. My sub zero base-layer stuff i can wear with a sweatshirt and be comfortable down into the 20s.

I've played in waist deep snow

I have no problem playing in colder temps, but snow is more problematic. With more than an inch or two of fresh snow, burial/loss is a real threat. Once the snow is a few days old and crusty/compacted, 6-9" of snow can still swallow up a disc if it lands at a steep angle. Generally you can see the entry point, but even that method gets dicey depending on how many tracks are in the playing area.

So seriously...waist deep snow?? I have to assume that's hyperbolic rhetoric.
