[Innova] Innova Stud: New PnA

This makes my decision to ditch mids for Colts even sweeter. I shall name my bag "the stable".

So Colts are that long for you that they overlap with mids? Do you also bag a slower fairway driver? Something like a Gazelle for example. Just curious how the distance gaps work in your bag.

The Colt is sneaky long for a putter, probably mostly because of the low profile. I was able to get fresh XT protos out over 300 feet pretty easily on laser straight lines, which definitely put them in contention with my mids. However, they didn't keep that stability all that long, and once they started turning a bit too much I went back to Pigs and Rocs. If the Stud is like the Colt, but has a little more HSS (and keeps that stability a little longer), then I could see it doing mid duties in some bags for sure though.

I don't get that distance from my Star Colt, but I put it into the chains from 150 ft. out (no joke, Scout's Honor) the other day. It is that devastatingly straight and accurate. The Star Colt also holds anhyzer lines really well, as long as I don't turn them over too much.

Where my Star Colt struggles is with hyzer shots, as it wants to flatten out to straight and therefore either goes long or stays well right of the target. I'm hoping the Stud will be a good hyzer-shot disc that will match well with the Colt.

By the way, on full power throws, the Colt does get sneaky-long distance. My Star Colt tends to turn just a bit (by that I don't mean turn over or descend to the ground and become a roller, just some turn to the right on my RHBH throw), though. So again, maybe the Stud in Star plastic will be a good stable/OS complement to the Colt in this arena as well...

I think the stud will be long but how stiff will it be?

Probably as stiff as the colt or the other current plastic runs. Aka not stiff.

I do have a stack those proto3s you like though. ;)

I'm stoked for it personally. A shorter gazelle flight!

Correct, I bag vipers now. Colt - viper - teebird flows better for me than my old aviar - roc - teebird

Fyi I throw the colt around 300' on golf lines.

So carry a cycle of vipers? I did this with a gazelle/chief os for awhile.

Thank you for the response. I wish I was hitting lines like that. I max at around 300' with drivers so I think I will stick with traditional mids for my bag.

A lot of these new low-pro putters are longer than you think. I regularly throw my Envy pin high on a couple 290-ish holes, and I have had a couple tosses over 270' with the Roach I bought for a friend. Given that the Colt is even more low profile than either of those I have no issue believing they could go 300' for someone with a good arm, and farther for those of you who have cannons.

Matt, a low-pro putter might be worth a try. The Envy has stolen a good number of shots from my Buzzz's since it goes almost as far and is even easier to control. With 300' of power on a driver you might be surprised how far you can throw a putter like the Envy or the Stud (assuming that it flies as promised) that you can safely throw with full power and not worry about it getting squirrely on you.

I think you are correct its worth trying out. I am interested in the Stud so I will pick one up and give it a try. Thanks for the input. I should really play some mid and putter rounds. My problem has always been limited free time with two kids and a really busy work schedule. Most of the time I am lucky to get out once a week. I try to build my bag around molds that are user friendly since I don't have a ton of free time to practice.

I don't think that the max distance you throw should be the controlling factor, it should be the slots you throw. How much gap do you have from driving putter to mid and mid to fairway? If the putter and mid are close or the mid to fairway is far off you may benefit from shaking things up.

For reference, I drive with Sonics and polecats up to ~250' so moving my driving putter up to a small diameter mid (colt) makes particular sense for me.

The viper is a confusing disc. I always thought they were similar distance as a teebird.

Interesting. How far are you throwing tee birds?

Teebird is a tricky disc to define a range. I target about 365' on the course, but they drift up to 400' if I crank on them. No way I am ever throwing a viper 400'.

There's an old Columbus Open video (before it was the BHMO) and it has a clip of Brent Hambrick throwing a Viper on a football field. The video is from '92 or '93 and the Viper was a new disc. He threw it from one end zone out the back of the other. Not 400', but he crushed it nonetheless.
