The Inevitable 2017 Pros Switching Sponsors Thread

But this is a case where we know. They did do things for her including a disc, the Starfire. It wasn't enough by her own admission. So your point is moot.

Except that Val informed Innova she was leaving them long before she won her fourth World title. So being given the (poorly-selling) Starfire came after-the-fact of Val leaving.

Okay, back to the imminent collapse of Prodigy... ;)

If I recall, Finn said something like Innova just needed to do something. It was in concession to the notion that it might not make money for them to pay her for her name on a disc. Well they did do something. Val didn't want "something.". She wanted a disc equivalent to what a sponsored man gets.

If your argument is that your name is going to sell discs, giving you a best selling disc isn't necessary to prove the point. Yes, it's gonna make you more money, but if you don't then increase sales, well you've won, and the company took a bath on a best selling disc.

Again, I don't know Innova's numbers, but the assumption that their motivation was to take advantage, or that they were being sexist doesn't fit their modus operandi. Most likely, they said it doesn't pay, she said I can make it pay and voila, impasse.

My hope is that she prints her own series of discs, sells the heck out of them, and Innova talks her into coming back. Not counting on it though. Mainly because all of the incensed comments about how everyone will buy her discs online, won't translate into purchases.

FYI - I refuse to buy signature discs of any sort. Hate marketing, hate the notion of buying something because it has a label on it and don't like the fact that often enough when I order Destroyers on line I get Paul or Avery on them. Sigh.

How many people are starting to throw a Max now that McBeth is bagging one. I bet a tour series Max from him would sell like crazy. But he is the exception to the rule.

I do believe that Val is bringing attention to women in disc golf and us talking about this is one of the first steps in the change that she wants to see.

Yeah and Innova kept paying her bonuses, Tour Series revenue and other financial support.

Ultimately she accepted the Starfire and most likely made some money off of that.

Why is it so difficult for people to realize that some jobs offer the potential for money through bonuses and incentives?

Not every job (especially athletes) comes with a salary.

In the end the lower end guys will benifit as well, but they were probally not in on the plot to create a phony company to drive up there value.

Brillant move by the prodigy creators, they made disc golf sponsorships great again.

You are clearly a phony person.

No one in their right mind would seriously believe that someone would invest tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars into creating a company from scratch, just to leverage a few more thousand dollars out of an existing disc golf company.

Do you think disc golf pros are making millions?

Do you know how much it costs to create a new mold?

I make plastic ejection molds for a living so to give you guys an idea. A simple mold that they would use would be starting at $3000 (alum test mold) to 10,000 depending on what they add to it. The molds themselves are fairly simple. Its the type of polish job to the mold that gets $$$$

I don't think it would have taken much money to make Val feel supported by Innova. And I believe that this small sum would have been worth it.

Did I miss an announcement somewhere? Can you show me these monetary statistics that you are drawing your baseless conclusion from? I'll be waiting... thanks.

Weird, my local brick and mortar store (it's actually just the warehouse of the local importer/distributor of discs that open for dg nerds a couple of times per week) has a bunch of tour series discs like the Des Reading Firebird, Hannah Tern, KJ Teebird, Sexybird, Brinster Destroyer, Climo swirly Wraith etc

Oh really? I must be behind the times on that policy then.

Sorry to mislead, like I said I don't really talk to Innova about that aspect of their business, I glean bits and pieces of info when it runs parallel to projects I'm working on.

The factory store does offer what they call "wholesale" pricing. However, those prices are significantly higher than their standard wholesale pricing. As an example, I have paid almost twice as much for McPro Aviars than KC Aviars with the difference presumably being the money they are passing along to the sponsored players. I do this because I am able to sell them for almost twice as much. There are just a few things from time to time that appeal to me as a dealer.

The local brick and mortar has had some tour series discs. Mostly McBeth's. They said they could stock tour series discs, but the markup would be more than the factory store. They made it seem like Innova was competing with their dealers. Doesn't sound like a good business practice to me.

Dave D. said in a recent AMA that Innova uses steel molds now, aluminum molds just didn't hold up very well.

Yes you would want the production one to be steel, just if your trying something out not all the time would you want one made out of steel. Lots of times i have seen things start being made of alum. tested, adjusted, then a production mold made. The cost savings is better if it takes 2-3 cavity or core plate changes to get just what is attended. Now if only I could get one of our sales guys to get his foot in the door. :D
