New Disc Golf Backpack just hit Amazon,improved Gorilla boy Simian for less?

Hey guys I don't post here much - or at all really - but I do post on /r/discgolf a lot as /u/danthedan115. I've been scouring the internet looking for info and opinions on this bag. I have the opportunity to review a brand new Baglane disc golf bag this weekend. Let me know what you would like to see in the review and I will try to get to everything, I'm making a list and will probably be posting the review on YT on Sunday. I am not a shill for these guys at all but I offered to objectively review the bag for them after they received some outlash on reddit and got their Amazon listing tanked with one-star reviews. I aim to do a out-of-the-box review and then another review after ~2 months of play.

I will not be commenting on my personal views on the subject of whether this is a "rip-off" or not and not interested in debating that here. I just want to give a fair shake and let the user decide for themselves.

It'd be nice if you had a Simian to compare to side by side. While some of these Amazon bags seem to be strongly influenced by existing designs, this one does appear to be a direct knock off. It's hard to say just how much, due to the less than helpful pics on GB's site. It looks like they're the same materials, but it'd be interesting to see how the finer details match up, like the quality of the stitching.

Not trying to argue, just curious. What bag was spider monkey's design from? I always thought it was a pretty unique non-backpack style bag. The top flap coming all the way over the putter pocket is something I've never seen on any other bag.

I'm not sure on the history of bag design from the beginning, but a minor addition like a flap doesn't really equal a new idea, imo.

That being said, the Simian was a pretty big re-envisioning of the backpack style, and Baglan clearly just stole it and put some better zippers on it and a different fabric on the bottom.
They didn't actually change anything about the design at all.

Cool, so the free bag you just got...
Understand that you may not consider yourself a shill in this game, but all the company wants is for someone to talk about the bag without pointing out where the design (theft) originates from, so you are effectively doing the work of a company shill.
And all it cost them was whatever they paid to have that manufactured. ($20 maybe, depending on quantity?)

Remind me why they deserve a fair shake again? It seems like not getting a fair shake is the gamble associated with copying and undercutting someone else's vision
 
I knew that posting here would ruffle some feathers. Yes, I am obviously going to have a bag in my possession, in order to review it.

Why do they deserve a fair shake? I guess so that people can see what this product is in glorious HD? People are curious as to what it is actually like.

I realize that not everyone is always going to agree with each other and that's ok. I certainly understand the controversy here.

I only came here to see what you guys wanted to know for the video. I am simply reviewing the bag, that's it. Not endorsing anything, not advertising anything. People are curious to see this thing in action.

I feel any review not done side by side with its most similar competition is not a fair review.
I could review a pair of bowling shoes, but without any expeience with compareable quality shoes (Ive never used anything but rentals) my review is worthless.

Short synopsis of my opinion. Any review of this bag without comparison to other "built in padded stool, upright storage backpack bags" is worthless as a review because we do not know your experience or personal expectations.
 
Regarding gorilla boy quality. I have a 10 and a 9 year old GB bag. I have torn up the mesh pockets on them by putting keys and such in them, but they are still in good shape. I have only owned two other bags in the last 10 years, and they see less use.

I wish they would have worn out because the new(er) line is even better.
 
I like how the guy , is that you Anthony? , admits after a few posts that he works for them. Just be honest for ****s sake.
