Could this influence PDGA disc design?

Puh-lease. I've tacoed discs into a shape like that and they definitely don't "self-correct" in air.

This is what I have been waiting for! the biggest issue I have with my frisbees is how hard a time I have picking them up. I just keep scraping my fingers on the ground. Having these squiggly edges off the ground will be a lifesaver! And it autocorrects mid-flight!?

Thanks Whamo!!!!!!

wait, Wham-O is so hard up they are using kickstarter?
Isn't kickstarter for, you know, start up companies that don't already have capital?

My exact thinking. They still gotta be making money off the Frisbee and hoola hoop. Why on earth do they need a 5k kickstarter?

I know this post is mostly in jest, but in reality, I don't think this would pass the disc tech specs:https://www.pdga.com/files/pdgatechstandards_1-15-17.pdf

(1) have a circular, saucer-like configuration, with a flight plate unbroken by perforations and an
underside inner rim depth that is between 5 and 12 percent of the outside disc diameter. The flight plate
is defined as the upper (or dorsal) section of the disc, which is delineated by the points where the inner
rim depth is measured. The saucer-like configuration requires a significant degree of asymmetry
between the upper and lower sections, resulting in distinct top and bottom sides of the disc;

(7) have a smooth surface on the bottom part of the rim; that is, a surface free of any irregularities such
as protrusions or depressions. When placed on a flat surface, the rim must have no discernible gaps
between itself and the surface on which it is resting.

(8) have a rim area, beyond the top of the flight plate, that does not include any surface elevation that is
more than 3mm above the outermost edge of the flight plate.

(10) have a circular inner rim no less than 15.8 cm in diameter. (Does not affect discs approved prior to
1/1/08).

Darn It. Was hoping to use on sloped greens to avoid potential roll aways. You know, because I expect to miss a lot

Wait.....is it April 1st??
That's what I was thinking, but it's a bit early, no?
Not that Wham-O is necessarily huge, but I wouldn't expect they'd need to go to Kickstarter to get such a beast off the ground.

Also, didn't Innova trademark the name Sonic, anyway?

It common to sell products before they are put in production to test the waters. This way Wham-O can build these discs with rapid prototyping machines and if this catches on, later they can dedicate an assembly line.
This is nothing new.

Kickstarter apparently isn't just for startups anymore, but for established companies to want to try highly prone to failure ideas on someone else's dime.

Kickstarter and its ilk haven't been just for startups for a long time. Not when established Hollywood producers started using it to finance projects (Veronica Mars, Super Troopers 2, etc) and established game makers use it to fund new games.

It's not a bad business model, really. If you have a project that is fringe-y at best, why not gauge true interest and raise the start-up capital at the same time. If there's not enough interest to fund it, all anyone has lost is time.

Sonic is a common word it cannot be trademarked as a word. A design of the word Sonic which is unique can be, as well if Sonic is the title of something like Sonic the Headgehog. Or if you changed the spelling. Like to like Sonik.

This is the reason why big pharma makes up words for their products or uses extra letters, scientific names cannot be trademarked either.

Yesterday I found a Nuke I had lost the other week, and it had been spit out of a mower. Gash in the middle and unevenly warped on different sides (not an even taco). Flew better than I thought it would.

I love a game of catch at a picnic/around the campground/on the beach. Park me next to a six pack, and I could be at it for an hour. Ultrastar is hard to beat, but I still like to switch that out with a Zephyr/Hero235/Putt'r to mix things up.

I backed this for $9.

None of those videos show anyone throwing the Sonic more than 40-50 ft. I can throw a tuna sandwich that far. 'Course, no one in the videos had disc skills, either, so only hands-on would convince me of any merit in the design.
