What's a good understable complement to a Comet? Criteria:

1. Slow with controllable turn, not very speed sensitive
2. Doesn't fade out much at the end

And don't say beat Comet, I'm looking for something out of the box.

Are you wanting something in a premium plastic? If not, a proD comet will get understable pretty quickly. A stratus is Discrafts classic US slow speed disc but they dont make it in premium plastic. If you want something in a premium plastic and it has to be discraft, then you have two options. A meteor, which is slightly faster mid than a comet but still pretty glidey. Or the Archer, which was the Ace Race disc 2 years ago and is touted as the premium plastic answer to the stratus. Both are rated -.5.

Personally, I would go with an Elite X Stratus. If you have a shop nearby, go feel them up and see which one you like better.

Don't care which manufacturer. I've tried the Meteor and Stratus, I'm looking for something slower.

A Stingray or the Foxbat are but the Foxbat is a bit faster then you would like. Stingray is the disc I can think of that is like a bead less Comet.

Slower than a Stratus? Hmmmm.....I think you are looking for a putter. X Putt'r is pretty understable. I thought the Comet was the understable complement, lol.

I'd say Fuse also but I bag an MJ ESP Comet and a regular ESP Comet along with a Fuse, seems the 2 Comets cover most of my shots (MJ one is more stable) and I only use the Fuse for some shorter odd shots and a flip up forehand "get out of trouble" shot.

Every understable midrange disc that I can think of is pretty speed sensitive.

Try a pre-2018 ESP Comet. Choose a flat(ish) one. These older model ESP's were, in my experience, more flippy than other plastics. If I throw one of these, I need to throw them more gently, and release with a greater degree of hyzer, due to their inclination to turn.

I like throwing discs hard, so the older ESP Comets do not fit my throwing style so well. But, they may suit yours.

Tried quite a number of "flippy" mids in premium plastic. I have found that I have to rip any and all of them very hard to see any turn until they are beat, so if you're looking for something to flip off the shelf in premium, it's a tall order. I assume you are not a torque monkey because your Comets are flying stable.

I recommend a Star Mirage from Innova in your preferred weight. Plenty slow, but faster than a normal putter, pushing speed 4. If you would not mind trying base plastic, a D Stratus or DX Stingray.

Except:
Fuse (old version of Goldline)
Stari (max weight)
Tui (almost a mid, listed as a putter).

It's taken me 4 years to put together that list of 3.

shaman available in any plastics, although slightly slower than a comet

Comets are understable only if thrown with OAT.

Agree....but only overstable if thrown with a hyzer angle. My old DX Comet is the least stable of any Comet I have thrown, used as a gentle right turn disc (RHBH), in my bag. They are easy to turn and OAT is not always a bad thing....unintentional OAT is.
